We currently own PVB and AKV resale both with Dec use year. We are planning on adding 75 points on direct for the perks. We are thinking of going with DRR with a June use year, with the plan of using it in the fall every other year, we would only be planning on using the DRR points at DRR at the 11 month window.

I understand the disadvantages, different member id's, difficult to transfer points between accounts etc, and also the advantages of having a use year just before I plan to travel, and also the advantage of additional wait list opportunities from having 2 member ids.

I spoke to a guide yesterday who very strongly advised against getting a different use year. I was wondering if anyone could explain why Disney would push the same use year so hard.

Am I missing something here?

Disney pushes the same UY because it is easier for people to understand. If you are willing to track and manage a separate UY, then it's fine. If you want a June UY, be firm until they give it to you.

You can add points by purchasing a different UY but in order for it to be an "add-on" to your current membership, it would have to match your current UY.

A different UY requires it to be under a new membership number.

I have 2 UY and HATE it. It is much easier to have all in one membership. If I want to uses points from both UY, I have to transfer from one to other and then have to call MS to use those transfer points as they do NOT show online. Waiting that extra hour to call in to make a reservation can be a problem when vying for a tough to get room or time period. I also can book some nights on 1 UY and some on other and link the 2 reservations so we don't have to move rooms. But that has it's own problems because once you link you cannot make changes (if you want to modify dates or names, you'd have to call in to unlink and then modify). And linking sometimes takes a while as every detail on the reservation has to match down to the order the guest names are listed, spellings and addresses....all have to match and a less knowledgeable CM may have an issues (I have had that). ALso just had issues of not being able to book my ADRs for whole trip as continuous (linked resies the system looked at as 2 separate resies). Really....much easier to have all in 1. That is one BIG thing I always recommend to buyers....stick with one UY.

Plus I think you'd be considered a new member if doing new UY and therefore would have to buy 100 points, no?

And new members can't buy now, yet, either...can they? When new members can buy the price is usually $5 higher too.

I'd keep pushing since you have a clear view of how you want to use it - a Dec use year would suck for fall trips. We take short trips throughout the year and love having 2 (soon to be 3, if we pass ROFR) use years and we just match each contract to a trip.

I think a lot of it is what's being said above - different UY is a different membership and not considered an add-on. So it's subject to purchase rules for new members, and new member minimums.

I think this might have been what I was missing, it's possible they just aren't able to do what I want at the moment with DRR.

I'm going to give it another shot later, and if that doesn't pan out I guess we have to decide if we want to add at AKV (they told me they have Dec points available now) and buy DRR resale down the road, or settle for DRR with December use year.

Does Disney really normally increase pricing prior to general public sales? IE: $188 to $193?

They have in the past. However, another member talked to her guide and was assured there aren’t any planned price increases before April 30th and that they will announce that a price increase is coming before they do it. Her guide also said to her that the ppp and incentives will remain until the 30th, but nothing is guaranteed for the ppp after that. The new reduced incentives starting May 1st have already been posted.

Congratulations on your purchase. I truly think a single use year and membership number will be much easier for you in the long run. I have 4 contracts, all OKW and all a June use year. My only issue is that I sometimes book a trip that crosses the use year, from May into June, and it is two reservations, so I tell the Front Desk it is a continuing say when I get there, and I drop by the desk on the morning the 2nd reservation starts to make sure everything is in order. The other issue is with two reservations, you have two Fast Pass booking windows. Other than that, no problems...I'm glad I don't have to do transfer from one contract to another contract or have two banking windows to keep track of.

Others have posted that you can call MS after you make the two reservations and have them link the two together. Is that not the case? Assuming it is, doesn’t it then show as a single reservation for park passes, FP, dining plans, reservations, etc?

Thinking of adding on sooner than later, would like to stay with our current UY, but considering all the logistics of a different UY if it’s not possible to find a contract with our current one.

I did call, and the CM said it could not be done. It may have something to do with software updates. But, yes, in prior years, it was always linked into a single reservation, the last time, they couldn't...unless the CM was not experienced enough to do so.

They did not increase it for CCV, however, it has been done before (but I don't remember which resorts).

I just booked a stay at BWV using both my use years (memberships) and called MS to link. They did link them. But when I went to make ADRs it was NOT as a continuous stay and I could only book 1st part t 180 days and had to wait for 2nd part's 180 days. I am assuming the FP will be the same even though folks are saying it's been fixed and should be continuous.

I will say that for ADRs it’s supposedly more common they don’t register as a continuous stay. So much so that MS apparently has a procedure in place where they can book all your ADRs for you across both trips, no need to wait until the second stay opens.
