Dinner suggestion before cruise?

Hello,

We are arriving on Thursday night before our Eastern cruise on the Magic (this week yay!) We are staying in Port Canaveral for two nights and doing KSC on Friday. Our flight arrives at 6:30 at Orlando International airport. Do you think we have time to go to WDW to have dinner before heading to our hotel in Port Canaveral? I'm not sure how long it takes to get to either location from the airport (we're renting a van). We're coming from the west coast so, technically we'll still be on west coast time (3 hours behind). Travelling with DH, DS (7yr and 4yr) and grandparents.

If we go to WDW any suggestions on a must eat at restaurant? I was considering Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge, Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge, or Spoodles at the Boardwalk. Someplace fun where we can explore and soak in some Disney ambience pre-cruise.

If you think it's too much to attempt, can you please recommend some places to eat in Port Canaveral?

Thanks!!!

If you are arriving at 6.30pm, allow at least 30 minutes to get bags, car. It is another 30 mins from MCO to WDW which would make it at least 7.30pm before you get there. 1.5 hours for dinner would have you leaving WDW at 9.00pm and an hour plus (depending on how fast you drive) to Canaveral would have you arriving there at 10.00-10.30pm

As west coasters (like you) we would be able to work with that. We don't mind the midnight arrivals so much because they are 9pm our time.

However bear in mind you will have been traveling for most of the day and traveling makes people tired. I personally think the best option would be to drive straight to the coast get something to eat (either on the way or at the coast), spend some time in the pool and relax (cool drink anyone!), let the children run around somewhere. Get the traveling done quicker and start your vacation.

Every time we go to Disney my family always likes to eat at the Ohana at the Polynesian. It is an all you can eat family style dinner. Dinner is cooked on a huge open fire pit. They have Polynesian singers entertain at dinner and the kids get to get up and run around the restaurant for a coconut rolling contest. At the end of dinner my kids get a snow cone in a sand pail to share. I would suggest getting priority seating reservations for any place you are considering. Good Luck and have a great time.

Thanks for your responses!

KayR-Given the drive times, I think you're right, it may be too much (even though we're 3 hrs behind), to hit WDW and then drive to Port Canaveral. Any recommendations on places to eat on the way or at Port Canaveral? We're staying at the Residence Inn.

imgraciesmom- thanks for the rec on Ohana, that was another restaurant that sounded like a lot of fun!

Our flight home isn't until 7:15PM on Sat. Depending on what time we get off the cruise ship, I'd like to try to head to WDW, maybe we can try one of the restaurants then for lunch. If we have enough time, we may even try to go to Epcot for a little while. Any other recommendations for a half day?

Thanks again!!

I have not tried any of these as we only go on our first cruise in January :cool1: :cool1: - can't wait..

Anyway from Shirley's helpful info thread & recommended by other Disers...

Fishlips http://www.fishlipswaterfront.com/ - takes reservations
Grills http://www.visitgrills.com/ - also serves breakfast
Rusty’s http://www.rustysseafood.com/
Grills and Rusty’s don’t take reservations but if you call about 1/2 hr before going, they will put your name on the "list".

and if you want to see Shirley's full helpful info thread (well worth it!!!) it can be found at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1520273

Out of these 3 restaurants which one would you recommend? We're going to be there this Fri. night with our 3 girls, ages 5, 7 and 8.

Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendations! I think we'll try Grills on Friday night, still unsure about Thursday, we may have to play it by ear and see how tired we are from travelling. Rusty's sounds great too.

Lots of great info on the area Shirley, thanks!!!

Anyone know if there are any cruise ships leaving the area on Friday night? I know no Disney ships will be leaving, but it might be fun to see something go by to get us in the mood!

Thanks again for all the recommendations.

Thanks again for all the recommendations.

I believe a Carnival ship and Royal Caribbean will be leaving Friday afternoon, around 5pm. I looked it up a while ago, and we'll be there in April on a Friday evening. Going to eat at Grills and see the ships go out!
