Dinner Shows and such...

We have a dilemma. Some input from more experienced Disers will help. We are on the Free Dining Plan and wish to do a dinner show or dine at some other restaurant where 2 TS credits are required. Which ones do you suggest? We already have in mind to dine at Whispering Canyon for 1 TS credit. So, do you think we should still experienced Hoop Dee Doo? Are there any similarities between the 2? All thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

If you want fun go to Hoop Dee Doo - it is a great time - eat drink be merry. If you're looking for great or unique food go to a signature restaurant, like Jiko.

Hoop De Doo was okay. Good to try once for two of my boys and I, but don't know that I would do it again. I feel the food was decent but the dessert was aweful. Jello or gelatin should never go in a good strawberry shortcake bleh. If you want fun, noise, and backyard BBQ food, then it is a good choice or may even be a good thing to see and experience once. We are going to try the diner show at the Poly this year.

Thanks. I've been thinking about the Hoop Dee Doo for a while now. Just wondering if it's anything like the Whispering Canyon. The Ohana Dinner Show is also an option. Now I'm really confused!! And isn't there another one at Fort Wilderness as well - Mickey's Backyard BBQ?? How does that compare?

HDDR is good old slap stick comedy, silly and intertaining. Whispering Cannon is just a table service restaurant, that gets very loud, and in my opinion very annoying. They are very different, one is a dinner show the other just a restaurant. Ohana is not a dinner show, but a family style 1 ts restaurant, there is a polynesian dinner show that is 2pts. Then there is Mickey's backyard bbq, it is outside under a covered area, but I do believe it is done weather permitting. We really enjoy the HDDR at fort Wilderness.

So, we're certain we're gonna give Hoop Dee Doo Revue a go. At this point, that's the only dinner show we have on our list. We also have in mind the following for 1TS credit:
Garden Grill (Dinner)
Crystal Palace (B'fast or Dinner)
1900 Park Fare (Dinner)
Biergarten (either lunch or dinner)
Sci Fi (either lunch or dinner)
Yak & Yeti (Dinner)
Whispering Canyon (Dinner)


Not sure what where else to go. Tempted to try California Grill for 2TS credits. And if we're really lucky, maybe we'll be able to get reservations for Donald's Safari B'fast at AK before the park opens.

Thoughts? It just seems like A LOT of food!

I forgot to add that we'll be heading to the Best Friends Character B'fast at the Polynesian Resort as well.

I took our family to a dinner show August 2008. I enjoyed it but wouldn't go again. We are taking a large trip with family in 2011 and it will not be on our to-do list. Takes up too much of our time for what we get for it. I would rather try something new or have the time in the parks.

I guess we owe it to ourselves to at least try Hoop Dee Doo at once. To be honest, the food doesn't appeal to me much. We just want to see what all the hype is about. We're going for the show. We'll see what happens from there. Which show would you guys recemmend? I'm leaning towards the 1st show of the evening. That way we can have an early rest and be at the park for rope drop!!

We did the HDDR several years ago with my parents and we all had a BLAST! My parents are not huge Disney fans and HATE to spend money so I was surprised they came but we had a ton of fun, the food was good, and the show was HILARIOUS! We went to the latest seating (which may not work if you have young kids) but it was great bc it was a small group and almost all the guests were involved in the show. My parents now can't wait to go back to this show! We are getting married at Disney in 2010 and are treating our guests to this as a "rehearsal" dinner. I have definately heard some poor reviews too so I think it just depends on the day you hit it- good luck- hope you enjoy it!

we love "spirit of aloha" diner and show at Poly.
Crystal palace is also very nice.

This planning is as exciting as it is stressful! Well, from what I've read here on the Disboards, we should be able to use only 1TS credit if the 2 of us split the entree (we're not big eaters). If we're indeed able to do so, then we can enjoy more TS meals which require 2TS credits/person - Dinner Shows and California Grill. But the thought of constantly planning our days around those ADRs... How do you guys do it?!

can someone who has been to the hoop dee doo confirm that they have utensils. My husbands co worker said no forks or spoons. That can't be right, is it. We are thinking of taking my DH grandparents (89 and 92), I don't think they would like to have to eat with their hands!! Please help! I have to book ADR's next week!
