Last time we went, we had dinner at Chef Mickey's the night we arrived. (We didn't go to a park that night.) It was great. A lot of fun. Set the mood for the trip.

Any suggestions for a character dinner or show for the first night to make it a little more exciting?? Are there any shows with characters too?

We'd probably want to do something at a resort, since we won't be getting a park ticket for only a few hours. (Unless we end up getting annual passes!)

Thanks. :)

sorry. i'm doing too many things at one time. i just posted this in the dining thread. don't know what i was thinking putting it under resorts. thanks.

Great to hear because we're going to be having dinner at Chef Mickey's on our arrival day (next Wednesday). Like you said, we thought it would set the mood for the trip. We'll be getting in fairly early, though, so we're planning on spending a half day at the Magic Kingdom before dinner.

.There are 18 of us in total and we are going to CRT for dinner before the wishes, we thought it would be a great start to the holiday especially as for the majority; it will be their first time. Hope we don’t get delayed though; we land at 3.45pm and are having dinner at 6.30! Hoop-Dee-doo I think it’s called has really good reviews, which would be a great laugh!

We like Chef Mickey's for the first night. Depending on your kids, 1900 Park Fare is another excellent one (Cindy, Prince, and mice are there.)

We don't use a park admission on the first day unless we are on annual passes as it is usually well after noon by the time we get to the resort. If you don't mind entering a park, Garden Grill or Liberty Tree are excellent also. We prefer LTT.

We usually go to Chef Mickey's on the first night also, but last year we were so tired and wound up from the flight that we really didn't enjoy it; so what we are doing this year is.....we arrive at POP at approx 4p. We will check in, swim and explore the hotel. Get a good nights sleep and then have b-fast at Cape May. We won't be going to the Parks that day either. after b-fast we will go back to the hotel, swim and then ADRs at Ohana. The following day the Parks begin. I know many will not agree with this stategy, but I've noticed that the kids are really really crabby if we just jump into everything - maybe this year will be different because they are so much older, DD5 and DS4 LOL.

This is our first time at Disney and we won't get to the hotel until later in the afternoon/evening...I'm guessing around 4ish....so we didn't want to "waste" one of our park days....and with kids we knew they had just drove 22 hours to get there they were going to HAVE to have a Disney fix....so we are doing Chef Mickey at 8 that night...

I figured that we would have time to swim, explore, relaxe before dinner.

We like Whispering Canyon for our first night's meal. It definitely gets our family in the Disney spirit, and the skillet is great!

Last year on our first night, we had an ADR at O'Hanas. We got there early, requested a window table, and then had a drink in the adjacent lounge. Our reservation was for approx. 1/2 hour before Wishes was set to begin. We were seated (at the window) and at the right time, the lights in the restaurant were dimmed and the music was piped in as Wishes began. It was the best!
