We have ressies at Steakhouse 55, Napa Rose, and Catal next week. Not sure what to pack. Can we wear shorts? If we do, will we feel out of place? We're going to Napa Rose on the same night as the Halloween party - can the kids wear their costumes?

Dining around DLR is pretty informal as people often wear what they wear in the parks. However it may be cool in the evening so you may not want to go in shorts.

Costumes should be expected on party nights.

Personally I think Napa Rose should enforce a dress code and don't think shorts are appropriate. They won't turn you away, but it's a really nice place.

None have dress codes, but if you don't wanna feel out of place, I would be in at least what I call "dressy casual"...for men that would be nice shorts and a tucked in collared shirt, decent shoes. T-shirts would probably bee too casual, shorts would be more than fine if dressed well.

No dress codes.....but I can say I probably wouldn't be wearing shorts. lol Jeans are fine tho, it's a theme park, they expect people to show up in casual dress. Costumes will be fine as well. :)

Why so they can lose business? A large part of their business is park goers. I go there every time I am at Disneyland because it is the only decent food in the parks. No way I am going to waste time by going all the way back to my hotel and change just because someone next to me doesn't like shorts.

Lots of restaurants less upscale than Napa Rose enforce dress codes and they do just fine.

We treat it as a fine dining experience and dress accordingly. I guess it's your right to look like a slob.

It would elevate the experience if everyone dressed nicer.

Try posting that on this DCL board and see what happens.

We LIKE to dress up for dinner at Napa Rose, it is usually our big dining experience while there and we make a big deal of it. Lots of people are in shorts and/or jeans, just not our family. It doesn't bother me how anyone else dresses, I just like how I feel when I look nice for a fancy dinner. I like it! We'd probably do jeans and nice shirts for Steakhouse 55 if we ever were to go there.

You didn't ask this--but I thought I would chime in since we just attended the Halloween Party. I wouldn't advise going to Napa Rose for dinner the same night at the Halloween party, just because the Napa Rose has REALLY slow service (which is good for when you want to draw out the dining experience, but not so good when you have some place you need to be). In order to maximize your Halloween Party experience, you want to get there early (you can get in 3 hours prior to party starting--so at 4:00 for a 7:00 party). You don't want to be stuck sitting in the Napa Rose. There is also so much candy at the party. We ate a light supper before going in, and I was glad we didn't have a heavy dinner.

Yeah, I thought about that... But I think we'll be ok. We have park hopper tickets so I already paid for tickets that day anyway, so getting in at 4 isn't critical to us. We only have a few nights to be there and like the dining out portion of our trips (we usually do WDW but we eat at nice places nightly), so I think we'll be ok with slowing down for a bit. :) We're staying at GCH too, so it's convenient if we need to run back to the room for something in between.

Sorry to have started any drama about shorts... I honestly think we probably WILL dress up a little more, I just wanted to know what options I had in case we run out of room in the suitcases. :) We are usually the most dressed up at restaurants when we eat out, but then again I live in Packer country (Milwaukee area) and pretty much everyone here considers dressing up a Packer sweatshirt and jeans!!! :rotfl:

No problem about the shorts. Actually, when we ate there my husband wore shorts. It was a Father's Day a few years ago, and Anaheim was in the middle of a heat wave. They were nicer shorts (like RL Polo shorts) that he wore along with a polo shirt. He looked perfectly fine and acceptable for that restaurant. Disney restaurants (even the very nice ones) are still on the casual side.

I hope you have a great time. You will love the Grand Californian.

When we went to the Halloween Party we went back to our room at 2:00 and rested for a few hours, then spent time getting dressed in our room. I think we went into the park by about 5:30. I found that this time was a good time to go on a few rides before the treat trail lines opened and the parade started to get set up. We stayed till they closed, and still felt like there wasn't enough time for the actual party. We are AP holders, so go very often--but the party was new to us. There were many different things to see--and it felt like we were rushing around, trying to take it all in.
