Dinner at Christmas Party?

Tried to get a BOG reservation yesterday for our night for MVMCP (first time for this), but as I did research while constantly re-dialing, I saw a few comments here and around the web that the table service restaurants are not open during the party. Does that mean we need to rely on quick service for dinner or just find a good meal prior to entering the MK that afternoon and then sustain ourselves on hot cocoa and cookies for the rest of the night (there are worse fates than this, I suppose)...or are there other special options during the party? Quick service will be fine, but what is the logic in shutting down the table service...it's not like Disney to refuse my money!

They do not close, but it would be a waste of party time and money to eat a meal while the party is going on. I would have a big meal before the party and then grab something fast and easy if you get hungry again.

Note: There is discussion that BOG is only open limited hours on party nights and may be closing at 5:30pm.

There is so much offered at the parties that we don't want to spend time eating a big meal. We eat at a Monorail resturant or our resort before we even go to MK. There are not many food options once the party starts- a few QS locations. Of course all the hotcocoa and cookes you want:cool1:

Some of them are open some of the time during the party (not sure about BOG) but you do have to decide if it would be a waste of your party time to spend it in a table service restaurant. They shut them down because guests tend to be out partaking of the party and not dining in the restaurants. It's not a question of whether or not they will take YOUR money, but whether they want to fully staff a restaurant that won't be even close to full.

We usually have a early TS meal before the party or grab CS later in the evening. I don't like wasting party time having a sit down dinner.

Fair points, to be sure, on not wasting party time in a restaurant. When we do Disney, we do it hard, so we will want to maximize the MVMCP experience. We have done Halloween and I would not have wanted to miss any of that either. On this particular trip, we'll be coming in on the back end of a cruise on the Fantasy and surprising the kids with a stop at MVMCP. We have candlelight processional dinner package on the first night (12/15 - no MVMCP that night) and were just hoping to kill two fun birds with same stone -- i.e., Christmas and a first look inside BOG, which might be worth missing an hour. No doubt we'll be back again in 2013, so we'll just have to do it then...unless we can stumble across a canceled reservation between 4:00 and 5:30 that day.

I would recommend eating at a TS restaurant around 5pm on a MVMCP day. We usually make an ADR around 4:30/5pm and are done well before the party begins. That way you don't have to worry about wasting time at the party to eat.

I think if it's your first MVMCP or if you have younger kids, you shouldn't "waste" the party time in a TS restaurant. We've been a few times and don't have kids so we have an ADR at CRT on our MVMCP night (I think it's 5 or 5:30). We mainly do MVMCP to get on rides with little to no lines and fill our tummies with cookies and just be in MK at night. Usually the last hour of MVMCP is when the crowds die out so pace yourself ;).

Some of the CS places may close. I don't know about MVMCP, but when I went to MNSSHP I ate at Columbia Harbor House just minutes before they closed the doors at 7 p.m. I was seated outside and saw MANY people pull and tug on the doors trying to get in.
