My family goes to WDW annually. We are venturing to DL in June. Can anyone recommend places to eat? We will do 2 sit down dinners, 2 lunches (in the parks), and 4 breakfasts (only going to the parks 2 days). We are staying at the Hilton Anaheim and will have a rental car. I was considering one dinner at Napa Rose, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. We do like fine dining and our kids are usually fine at nice restaurants. DH has eaten at NR before and loved it, but he would like to try something else this time.

Any recommendations? Offsite for dinner is okay too.

Thanks!

PS - forgot to say that for the other 2 dinners and lunches we will be with DH's clients, so no need to book anything.

Well, I'm a little reticent about self promoting, but Blue Bayou is the most popular restaurant at Disneyland and we try to live up to guest's expectations. Reservations are best (at least 1 week ahead of time if you want to be seated during the prime dining hours (4:30 to 8:30). The entire seating area is inside the "Pirates of the Caribbean" attraction.

Other interesting lunch and dinner options are Cafe Orleans and the Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue - Cafe Orleans has some unique entrees, and the Pommes Frites and Onion Soup appetizers are wonderful! Big Thunder Ranch is all you can eat Barbecue and very tasty (I know - I've eaten there 37 times since they opened last April) and they have live entertainment all day.

My favorite for breakfast is the Carnation Cafe on Main Street - I love the Croissant Benedict. If you have kids, by all means do at least one of the Character breakfasts - we always did Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel when my daughter was young.

Good suggestions above. I would also throw in Steakhouse 55 at the DLH. Be sure to check out the menus for all of these places at wdwinfo.com by clicking here. Have a great trip. :thumbsup2

I like both these suggestions. I really enjoy the yogurt parfait at Carnation Cafe. If your daughters like the princesses you'll want to look at Ariel's Grotto. The breakfast at AG is good and you won't have to wait at PFF to see usually 5 princesses.

Thanks for those suggestions. They sound great!

I had to chuckle when I read jimreuter's recommendation to book at least a week ahead of time for Blue Bayou. I'm so used to booking 180 days ahead of time for WDW! Steakhouse 55 and Blue Bayou sound good for dinner. The lunch and breakfast recommendations look nice too.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

If you want something FUN then I am going to suggest the Rain Forest Cafe in Downtown Disney. The Cheesecake Factory a 5 minute walk off site is amazing and has a HUGE selection of wonderful food.

But if you wanna stay within Disneyland, then I am gonna say try the Wine Country Trattoria. WONDERFUL!

Allears.net has a wonderful list of places to eat onsite with their menus. Hopefully this can help a bit.

We went to Napa Rose and really enjoyed it. Saw plenty of kids in the restaurant.

We did Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen too and absolutely loved that. I would think it would probably be enjoyable for the whol family!

I love the Carnation Cafe for breakfast as well. :thumbsup2

We are wanting to do the BB but $12 for a split plate fee? Insane! I am not a huge eater and we can't lug a box around all day. I hate to waste food too. Trying to figure out how to swing it without wasting food and money. :confused3

My personal favorites are:

Carnation Cafe in DL - great location for people watching along Main Street. I prefer it not so much for breakfast but for lunch-dinner-dessert only meals (good meat loaf stack and yummy Matterhorn sundae & apple pie a la mode). Seating is limited so definitely make a reservation for this, as tables fill up fast and the line of people waiting can be long.

Blue Ribbon Bakery in DL (counter service)- Yummy, ooey, gooey, messy cinnamon rolls, blended mochas and other baked treats.

River Belle Terrace in DL (counter service) has a nice location at the intersection of New Orleans Square and Adventureland, and serves the famous Mickey Mouse pancakes for breakfast, as well as some fairly thick turkey sandwiches for lunch and dinner.

Plaza Inn in DL is counter service, "buffeteria-style" food and the interior of the restaurant is quite beautiful. The portions are quite lare, and the chicken is very popular here.

Bengal BBQ (counter service) in DL serves various skewers (I am partial to the chicken skewer), which are enough for a light meal.

Wine Country Trattoria in DCA has a nice ambiance (try to get an outdoor table). Yummy meatball sandwiches. Other people are partial to the lasagna and my friend enjoyed the Caprese sandwich and the huge pizzetta salad. They also served an eye-catching blood orange sorbet.

Taste Pilots Grill in DCA (counter service) serves decent burgers and shakes and all the expected accompaniments, and it has, in my opinion, the best soundtrack. While you eat your burgers, you will be treated to various space travel/aviation-related songs such as "Space Oddity" by David Bowie, "Rocket Man" by Elton John, "Fly Like an Eagle" by Steve Miller, etc., etc. Seeing that I grew up in that kind of 70's classic rock age, I would go there just to listen to the music!!

Storytellers Cafe in the GCH is a really nice, cozy, warm, earthy kind of place with a fireplace and rustic sort of atmosphere. I prefer it for the non-character meals. Lunch is good there and they serve the best spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner!

Goofy's Kitchen in the DLH is my favorite of all the DLR restaurants - it happens to be a good restaurant with a wide variety of food choices...that also just happens to have characters!

As for the non-Disney specific restaurants that can be found in Downtown Disney, I like Rainforest Cafe for breakfast, lunch or dinner, Naples Ristorante (try to get an outdoor table to soak in the fun atmosphere of DTD), and I like ESPN Zone (good portion sizes, good food - very busy, noisy atmosphere, however).

I have not tried them yet, but I hear great things about Cafe Orleans in DL (pretty consistently), Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in DTD and Napa Rose in the GCH.

Oh, and be sure to not leave DLR without grabbing a delicious, sweet, juicy, refreshing pineapple spear from one of the outdoor vendors on Main Street or in DCA. Those spears are SO delectable and addictive - DLR really does fruit well, as most of the melon, berries and pineapple I have had there is out of this world. (So is the bacon, as a rule!)

Wow - Thanks so much to everyone! I've been checking out the menus of the places you recommended and they all look yummy!

I've notice that DL seems to offer healthier choices for kids (like the "Power Pack") than WDW. My kids would love to eat that Power Pack for lunch...I wish they offered that in WDW. THe kids choices there are nuggest, mac n cheese, etc.

Sherry E - thanks so much for the detailed info on places to eat. I'm looking into Naples Restorante and the Jazz Kitchen.

If any of you ever head to WDW, I can recommend some great places there for you!

If you ask them to split the meal they will charge you $12 and I believe you each get your own side dish but if you just ask for an extra plate and split it yourself, there is no extra charge.

In Downtown Disney we love House of Blues. Don't care for the restaurants inside Disneyland or California Adventure as they're high priced and food is simply just ok. Napa Rose is very good but you pay the Disney price.

Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel is excellent. However, for the money I'd go to Mortons on Harbor close to the Hilton.

For Character breakfasts the kids preferred Lilo and Stitch. We also went to Minnies where the characters came around more often.

I would do Carnation Cafe and the BBQ roundup for the two restaurants inside DL. White Water Snacks in CA is supposed to have yummy breakfasts too (counter service). If you want to do a character meal, do Goofy's Kitchen.

Stay away from the Country Bear CS restaurant in DL and Ariel's Restaurant. Both seem to have poor to mediocre quality food.

Thanks for those suggestions. They sound great!

Sounds like us. We go to WDW at least once a year, so this is something new for us. Based on reviews, recommendations, and the menu, we are eating at: Blue Bayou, Cafe Orleans, Napa Rose, and Steakhouse 55.

If you're going to the LA area, or even some beach areas, there's this awesome Japanese restaurant called Gyu-Kaku where you cook the meat on the grill that's in your table. It's delish!

We are another family who are WDW vets and are broadening our horizons and venturing to DL next September. We are in the very early stages of planning out our trip since we don't know much about DL, we however know WDW like the back of our hands. From what I have read we know that we want to definitely do BB, Napa Rose, and a few character meals....just not sure which ones as of yet, other than that, we are completely clueless. Therefore thank you to all for the wonderful info, I am definitely going to be watching this thread for more suggestions :goodvibes
