I know this has probably been asked before, but we are DVC "newbies." How does the dining plan work if staying at Disney using points and how much does it cost per person? Is is worth it to do the dining plan with the kitchen availability in the villa? I foresee us using the kitchen for breakfast and snacks, but not lunch and dinner. BTW, we are a family of 6. We have done the deluxe plan before and loved it, because we ate at a lot of TS restaurants that use 2 credits (that we normally would not pay to eat at). Any thoughts?

The DDP can be added to a points reservation just by calling MS. You pay for it at check in but must add it at least 48 hours in advance of your stay.

It costs the same thing as it does for the general public so for 2010, I believe that it is $41.99 per person (adult).

I know that we will not be doing the "cooking" during our stays, even though we will have a kitchen so for us, the dining plan is a great option. We used the QSDP this past August and I like that. We only like to do 1 - 2 TS meals during our trips so getting the DDP is not worth it.

For most of our yearly stays, our plan is to now do a split stay so that we can do the DDP for two nights, and then do the QSDP for the rest. We will have to change rooms, but we are okay with that.

We have 3DSs, and like you said, we like the kitchen for breakfast, drinks and snacks but we don't cook mealas in it. We've done the dining plan and love it, and it's definitely worth it for us. We've always eaten at TS restaurants for dinner, so that's probably why.

DP is like resort choices, it depends on your family's habits, budget, etc whether it's worth it for you or not. Some are huge fans, some hate it. Since you already know what DP is like, it should make your decision easier. :goodvibes

DDP works for DVC members just as it does for anyone else except that:

  • You pay for it at check-in rather than paying for it upfront.
  • You are not required to purchase admission to get the plan.

If you already know the DxDP works well, I see no reason to not add it on. The price is the standard Disney price ($72 per adult for the DxDP, I think? Don't quote me on that!).

We used the Dining Plan (regular) during a DVC stay on points in a two bedroom at the BWV. It worked perfectly well for us, although I bought too much snack food to have in the room, no one was hungry! So I would advise buying breakfast foods, but go light on the snack stuff.
We added our plan 30 days out and payed for it upon arrival.
