Dining Plan Punch Card

As a newer person here, I have a question. Why do people get the dining plan punch cards? Thanks.

These cards look great!
Could I get three cards all for 6 nights with the regular 2012 dining plan.
that says July 2012 Trip to Remember
one with pink dots for 2 adults and one child
One with stars for 2 adults.
One with stars for 4 adults and one child

If a person purchases the dining plan at WDW, these cards help to keep track of the credits they have used and what they have left.
