Dining Plan Menu Choices (Bait and Switch?)

Has anyone used the dining plan yet and not been able to get what they wanted off of the menu? I was just wondering if so or if perhaps any of the menus have differed from the ones on allears? I've heard that you can't even get the dessert of your choice at Ohanas now and that Planet Hollywood charges a surcharge on certain items. I have printed off about twelve menus of off allears and I am hoping that these will be accurate to use on my trip. Anyway, I hope Disney is not pulling a bait and switch game with the public.

AllEars.net is a wonderful service provided by a wonderful woman named Deb Wills. She is, however, not associated in any way with Disney. The information available on her web site is provided as-is, without warranty.

The dining plan promotional materials make it clear that restrictions do apply. They promise, and live up to that promise. While it may be preferable for some guests if they promised more, they don't. Each guest has the option of accepting the dining plan as it is offered, or declining it. Therefore, there is no bait-and-switch. Therefore, you may want to correct the title of your message.

There are numerous threads on the meal plan. No reports of "bait and switch". The skillet meal at O'hana's includes a dessert. That meal doesn't allow you to substitute desserts. The plan doesn't allow you to get a second dessert without paying.

You could always go to a restaurant and find out the menu you saw at Allears is not current.

Also, some of the restaurants are not owned by Disney, such as Planet Hollywood. In that case, they are free to add surcharges to the Dining Plan, which reimburses them a set amount per meal.

As bicker points out, you would do better to obtain dining information from Disney. You can call or write them for information, which clearly explains the options available.

Your thread title is more than a little pejorative. I'd recommend changing it also, unless your intent was to disparage Disney.

Plus, if you look at the dates of the menus, some of them could be a year old. Restaurants change their items all the time. If you go down with a printed menu and expect if to be EXACTlY like that, you are probably going to be dissapointed. It could be completely different, except for a few "classics", and have nothing at all to do with the dining plan.

We just got back on the 10th and spent 9 days on the dining plan. We were able to order off the full menu. Planet Hollywood and Pucks have a surcharge if you order the most expensive things on the menu, but that is stated in advance. We were able to order what we wanted, everywhere, and were not given "special menus" for the dining plan. Use the menus on allears as a guide, but menus change...and the internet is not always up to date. Don't get your sites set on a particular entree at a particular restaurant and you'll be fine. Many restaurants also offer specials that won't be listed on allears.

Menus change seasonally. I'm amazed that it seems most people don't realize this. For instance, I made PS's at Brown Derby, they always seem to be changing thier appetizers around, but they always have the grapefruit cake.

While Debs is an amazing, wonderful, infinitely useful site (especially the menus!) don't use them as absolutes, as others have pointed out they aren't always completely current. You can tell this by the date listed on the menus - for instance, the food stand at Fantasmic hasn't had it's entry updated since 2003. Most other menus are much more current however - just be sure to check the menu when you look at it.

As to "bait and switch", the dining plan is very clearly laid out. Two restaurants have a slight surcharge (Planet Hollywood, Wolfgang Pucks) if you buy the most expensive entrees, and "extras", like a skewer of shrip add-on, or extra desserts, are not included. Nor are package deals like the "Fantasmic!" package (though I *have* heard of it happening, you should NOT count on it or make a stink if it doesn't as offically it is not included).

Disney can switch/change menus at any time they choose, as long as persons paying cash order from the same menu as those on the dining plan. I do not see an issue.

As for the Ohana, do the guests paying cash get that second dessert for free?

I know that the Planet Hollywood surcharge thing is printed in the disney brochure.
