We are going for 14 days during Free Dining and had upgraded to the higher dining plan. My question is they charge you the difference between the regular plan and the deluxe plan, one of the adults just had bypass done and obviously only eats a few bites. Would you call Disney and ask if they would treat her as a "child" and only pay the difference for the kids rates??
Thanks

They won't. Some of your options:
Pay cash for her food and use her credits for the other adults in your party.
If there's a child in your party with a more varied palate or larger appetite than the typical seven to nine year old, have them swap meals.
She should just order what she will/wants to eat, ignoring the normal cost/price of the Dining Plan.
Don't pay to upgrade; just all work with the value of the DDP to which you're entitled.

Deluxe dining is really alot of food and alot of time in the restaurants. The regular dining plan really has a good amount of food. Maybe keep the regular dining plan, and if someone in your party needs more food, just pay OOP for that.

They won't let an adult pay the child rate (or the difference in child rates).

I had GBP surgery jan 09 (lost 140 lbs)and have been to wdw for xmas week each xmas since and used regular dining plan. They will not give you childs price. DXDP would really be a waste of money, but since you all have to be on the same plan..ther really is no workable solution. I often share CS meals with DH and use snack credits for some additional for him. I find the regular DDP worth it for the 2 of us.

Deluxe plan is an extreme amount of food even if you haven't had surgery.
We couldn't even come close to eating all the food on it and we included room service and several signatures to use up the credits.

I think that the people who use it must only eat parts of their meals or don't bother ordering all the food that is included.

3 meals a day is one thing and seems like a good idea, but add on appetizers and rich desserts at each meal or a big buffet here and there ...plus snacks that are often huge pastries and you are consuming thousands of calories a day not to mention the sodium levels of restaurant meals.
We did the standard plan also once and with me plus 4 adult men we still had 5 credits left on our last day and got take out meals from wolfgang puck express and took them to a condo and ate off of them for the last 2 days we had booked....5 meals included 5 large bottles of juice, 2 pizzas, a huge pizza dough type wrap sandwich with side of homemade chips, huge container of pasta and meatballs with a side salad, and a half roast chicken with about 3 cups of mashed potatos, 4 large chocolate chip cookies, 1 creme brulee.
We got one side of mac and cheese added (back when it was still the super cheese good one).
the rest of our weekend, we only bought dole whips one time and that was it.

If your group is planning a lot of signature meals (pretty much one every day) then it might be an overall value to just stick with it. the per credit price compared to the out of pocket price at a signature would still save a lot of money even if you don't order everything included. Plus, signature restaurants often have smaller (more quality) portion sizes that would work well. you can also pass along your appetizers or desserts to others if you are full.
Also you can ask for things like fruit/berries for desserts.

and we split alot of meals, saving more for signature dining that uses 2 TS credits :goodvibes
