At table service restaurants, can you have them prepare your dessert to go? Also, if you don't eat a dessert, will you still have a dessert credit on your card or do you lose it if you don't use it immediately?
Certain desserts can be packed as to go and certain one couldn't be packed for fear that it would melt. If you don't get dessert, you will lose that credit because it's part of the table service. Same thing with counter service credit. The only credit you won't lose for the day will be the snack credit because you can accumulate it towards the end of your trip and go crazy buying snacks if you want!
lizzytizzy is right. Some desserts just don't travel well. I know at Flying Fish I wanted the chocolate trio to go. The waiter allowed me to get two items of it to go, but refused the creme brulee, saying I had to either eat it there or forfeit it. At WGP Express you can not get the creme brulee to go either. At California Grill the only dessert they would allow to go was a chocolate cake that is not even listed on the menu. The waiter said that was their standard dessert to go as the others do not travel well. He did allow a cheese plate to go instead though.
If you don't order the dessert with the meal, you are not entitled to another dessert. All entitlements must be ordered at the time you use each individual credit. You may choose to order or not order the dessert, but if you don't order one you lose it.
