dining plan confusion

We will be using the dining plan this fall for the first time... how does it work? Are your credits deducted from your room and park entry key card, or do you receive an entirely different card upon check in that you present to the waiters? Do the restaurants actually put a dollar amount on that card (the amount your meal was) or just take away credits? There is no chance of approaching the front desk for check-out and being mistakingly told that you've charged 800 some-odd dollars onto a card that you'll have to pay...right? I just wanted to clarify some stuff before our arrival. *THANK YOU SO MUCH*:teeth:

The main computer keeps track of your credits. They can be used by any of your room keys as they are pooled. Upon purchase of anything using the dining plan, the receipt will show you what is left after that meal or snack.

6 of us going down in Sept! How do they separate the child plan from the adult plan...does each person have to present 1 card for each meal or can I go up to counter service & order 6 meals with 1 card?

All of the different types of meals are pooled, and the adult meals and kids meals are combined. In fact, I have heard of people buying their kids' TS meals with cash or credit and then using the kids' TS dining credits for adult TS meals. I have also heard this may change in the future, but some say that it would be too difficult to track. :confused3

Any and all room cards can be used to access your meal credits, so 1 person can order 6 counter-service meals with 1 card.

Enjoy! :cool1:

How can you use a kids TS for an adult TS? I thought you could only order a kids meal with a kids TS :confused3

Nope, at present, there is no such thing as a "kids' TS" or an "adult TS" for that matter. Your package provides one TS and one CS and one snack credit per night, per person (at or over age 3). You can use the credits generally as you wish.

You can use the TS credit for a kid's meal, or ask for the kids' meal to be put on a separate bill and pay cash. Then you'd have the TS credit for use another time.

Thanks for the info...I'm not quite sure I get it. What I'm thinking is that if I pay a child's rate for my 8 y/o, then he must order off the children's menu where it's provided. If I choose to pay for his meal OOP, the credit will remain unused for him. BUT..how can it be used to order an adult meal if this credit has been bought at child's prices?

I"m not understanding, sorry to sound so ditsy :sad2:

not ditsy at all... basically what happens is if you have two adults and two children and you go for five nights you will have four TS per night or 20 TS meals encoded on your card... once they are encoded, there is no "adult TS or child TS" just TS meals... there is no distinction on the card...

where i think you may be getting confused is the verbiage that a child must order a child's meal where offered... and that is correct... a server at a TS restaurant is the "judge/jury" here... he/she will not allow a child to order an adult meal at a TS restaurant... hence the child must order child's meal rule...

BUT! and it's a big BUT for those that are willing to play the game to gain the most (and imo bend the rules/slide thru a loophole, but i'll leave that decision to each individual's conscience LOL) as you enter the restaurant you can request that only the adult meals be deducted from your dining plan card and ask for a separate bill for your child's meal, eventually using the child's credits (from the pool because there is no difference in the computer) for an adult meal... this can also be done with counter service meals but the gain is not as great...

hope that helps... :flower:

Gigi - thank you!!

I was wondering if and how credits were differentiated, you're explanation helped alot.

RedRuby - thank you too :)

glad to help! it took a lot of dis'ers explaining it to me before i completely understood it! LOL

Is the dining plan $35 per person, per day? We booked our airfare and are going to book our hotel, tickets and possibly a food plan for the 26-30 of August and are planning on staying at one of the all-Star is there a package for this or is it cheaper to do it seperately? Hotel is about $99.40 with tax and the tickets are $225 4 day hoppers. we were figuring about $70 a day for good for the both of use but if the Dining plan is $60 for both then we are saving $10 plus that is a ton of food....

so basically my ? is, is there a package for hotel, all-star, 4 day hoppers and the food plan

and is the food plan $35PP?

Thank You - I can't believe I'm going back :earsboy:

the dining plan is $35/adult; $10/child... and includes one table service meal (buffets, character meals, etc), one counter service meal and one snack per person per night... certain restaurants, however, require two TS...

darn I wish we knew we were going a few weeks earlier I didn't know that they had this free deal with the food plan.

Bummer
