We are DVC members and are going twice this year. In July we are going down with family and staying with points at BWV and hoping to use the Dining Plan. We are also getting annual passes because we are going back in September and staying at the Grand Floridian. Will we be able to get the dining plan if you get the annual pass, or do you have to buy Magic Your Way park passes. It would be cheaper for us to just get the annual pass. Thanks for any help.

You will definitely be able to get the Dining Plan for your stay at BWV because DVC members/renters do not need to purchase park tickets to avail of the Dining Plan. However, when you go back again and stay at GF will it be a cash reservation through CRO or are you booking it with points through DVC Member Services? If it's a cash reservation through CRO then I believe it would need to be part of a MYW package including tickets. I'm not sure what happens if it's a points reservation. Perhaps somebody on the DVC planning board could help.

I am not familiar with DVC, so could be wrong, but I thought the dining plan was only for those buying MYW (minimum of 1 day) tickets.
AP-ers (like us) often buy the DDE membership.

Nope. DVC members can add the dining plan to any DVC point reservation after April 1st without buying any park passes.

ETA: I took advantage of the free dining last August and my family has APs. We just saved our passes from that trip and applied their value to our renewal. We always renew in person. I don't know if you can do it by mail.

The dining plan can be purchased for DVC 'points' ressies. Every person staying with you must be on the plan, and you must purchase it for your entire stay. It doesn't have anything to do with your park passes.

You will not be able to purchase the dining plan for cash ressies unless you purchase a package (room, tix & dining).

You must request the dining plan before you get there. You can't just add it at check-in.

I added the DDP to both my May and Oct trips. Couldn,t get it for my trip on the 26th, but I have my DDE card for then.

It is my understanding that the DVC version of the dining plan can not be used at non-DVC resorts, even if booked on points through MS, so if you want the plan while staying at GF, you'll need to book a pkg through CRO. To find out "for sure" I would ask Member Services.

The DVC member website says "Members can now enjoy the Disney Dining Plan when staying at a Disney Vacation Club Resort at the Walt Disney World® Resort on or after April 1 (this excludes Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort and Disney's Vero Beach Resort). Important Note: The Disney Dining Plan must be booked in advance of arrival and must be purchased for your entire travel party (ages 3 and over) for your entire length of stay. Call Member Services to add it to your reservation or to make a new reservation today."

To me that indicates only if you are staying at a DVC resort. The bold emphasis is from the website, I did not add it.
