Dining disappointments?

Our two biggest disappointments was Concourse Steakhouse & Akershus Storybook Princess Storey Book (Norway)

Concocourse:
For dinner we went to Concourse Steakhouse, which is not there anymore. We arrived 10 minutes prior to our adr. I checked us in and was told to have a seat and we would be seated shortly. 20 minutes later dh went up and asked how much longer they said we were the next table that seat five. We waited 35 minutes past our adr time and was finally seated.. We waited at our table for oh about 10 minutes before our server came around. Once she showed up she was very pushy and rushed us to place our order. No may I get your drinks she wanted the full order right then. Besides my ds we all had steak. NY strip for the big people and ribeye for dd. To say they were okay is generous. I found mine a bit dry. I like my steaks med-rare so there was no reason while it was dry. They lacked flavor simple salt and pepper were needed. They were all full of gristle and fat. For dessert the younger two got the sundaes. Dss got the Triple Chocolate Cake he said it was moist and good. Throughout the meal our glasses were empty numerous times. The service between meals were slow. And the food itself was just okay. Let me add that our server was so slow and rude that this was one time I wish I could have controlled the gratuity because this waitress was not very good at all. I am not surprised at all that this restaurant is not longer open.

By far the biggest disappointment was Akersuhus!

Akersuhus:
Let me start by saying our waiter was very rude and pushy for the beginning. I asked if iced tea came with the meal I was told they did not even have iced tea in the restaurant. On my way back from the cold bar guess what I saw???? A lady drinking Iced tea. I asked our server again and WOW he found some. lol. Some of the food on the cold bar like the fruit & smoked salmon was very good. However, some of the other looked as if it had sat out through out the morning. Our adr was 10:10 in the moring. The bacon on the hot plate that came to the table was gross. Some of it was soggy, which we like ours crispy, other pieces were no where near done. The princesses were awesome with the kids. About ½ through our meal they started changing for lunch. They were in a hurry to get us out of there. When our first hot plate was nearly through we asked for another and was treated like the waiter was doing us a favor for us. Our glasses were empty often and like I said getting our hot plate re-filled was a task in & of itself. They were very much in a hurry to get us through. The wait staff was rude and down right mean at times. The one Princess dd wanted to see was Belle. She was the only Princess we had not seen. Belle had not came around so we were finished eating but was about ½ dozen tables away so we were waiting for her. The wait staff was very inpatient for us to leave. To the point our waiter came over and asked if we were finished. I explained yes we were done eating but waiting on Belle. He was walking away and said “whatever!” The food was okay, the Princesses were awesome the wait staff was horrible. We were all about ½ sick after eating here dss even vomited.

We have high expectations so we've had our share of disappointments, along with many better than mixed in there too.

Worst:

1. Le Cellier. We do not get the hype at all.
2. Narcoosees. In our opinion, does not compare to other 2TS's available at WDW.
3. Yak n Yeti. Counter service quality Chinese food with poor quality service.

We never base our opinions on one visit; each place gets tried at least twice before we take them off the list for a few years. Currently Le Cellier and Narcoosees are the only two on the "no way" list; Yak n Yeti, after 2 attempts, is still on probation.

Our worst dining experience was at Sci-Fi last October. We actually ate there in 1999 and it was great, but our recent experience was really, really bad. The food and service was horrible and I am quite sure we will never go back. I honestly don't get how a restaurant can screw up a turkey sandwich, but Sci-Fi managed to do it. Other than that, I can't say we have had any other bad experiences. Oh, yeah...turkey legs are totally gross, IMHO. We are pretty adventurous when it comes to food, and can usually find something positive about every dining experience at WDW.

Dec 2007: Raglan Rose - food was awful, sheppards pie was very salty and the scallop apps just smelled so fishy I had to move them to the other side of the table - not fresh at all. Waiter was also awful, we were outdoors and the sky was dark with rain soon coming. He spent most of his time chatting with the other workers in the corner and ignoring us. First time I have left a lousy tip in Disney.

Jan 2008 - Crystal Palace. We were there for one of the last seatings for breakfast. The hostess told us that the charachters had just come around and to take our time eating. Well we were done in 1/2 hour - waited another 45 minutes. No signs of them and our waiter had disappeared. I will say it was my DD 2nd birthday and they did decorate the table and give her a cupcake and picture from Pooh and the gang - but gees after 1 hour and 15 minutes it would have been nice to see them. We left.

The worst meal we had was at Garden Grill in Sept.08'.The veggies and potatoes were pretty good, but the catfish was terrible-it was extremely peppery!!!;the waitress was not very friendly, and it showed by the service we got:rolleyes1

Le Celier in Sept. My Dsis ordered the salmon. It was so salty that she couldn't eat it. She sent it back (I know that is a bad thing to do. Ever see the movie "Waiting"?) It took so long to get her salmon, I was done with my steak by the time she had started her meal.

We loved it a few years ago. We will probably give it another go but not any time soon.

Last visit (of 10+ visits) was in Feb 2005 - the absolute worst was Chef Mickey's for breakfast - bad food AND bad service. I was extremely disappointed. On the same trip Coral Reef was a disappointment as well. The service wasn't bad but the menu choices and prep were blah and for the price it was a blah, blah, blah! On the up side we had great interaction with the diver.

I will never go ack to either of these restaurants again!

We have reservations at Primetime and Coral Reef. I hope it is not horrible! I dont have high expectations for any of the meals that way if they suck they don't suck too much :) I hear the fish isnt good at coral reef but what about the steak or chicken?

Worst: Spirit of Aloha. Service was awful, food was mediocre, and show was dull.

Second: Coral Reef. We had read such good things, but the food was NOT good, and the running around, ill-behaved noisy kids made it decidedly unrelaxing. Service was good, though.

I've never really been expecting a lot from the food @ WDW so I rarely have been disappointed.

In fact the only bad meal ever was at Garden Grill. I only booked it for the characters. My son loves C&D, they are a close second to Goofy. I was not expecting much, but did it still did not even meet my low expectations. We only could stand 1 platter & left quite a bit on it.

Saw this quote above & our GG experience was also in Sept 08, so maybe they were just running through a bad spell. At least our waiter was very friendly.

Wow , I feel lucky that we have never what we considered a bad or even mediocre meal at WDW. Andalways great service.
We will be taking our 4th trip in Dec and have some old favs along with lots of new ones to try.

Our worst ever meal was at the old Tokyo Dining before the change. The food was not great (I'm used to really good Japanese food and it just didn't come close) but worse than that was the horrible service. Our waitress was incompetent and bordered on rude. We were shocked.

Our second (but close) worst meal was at Le Cellier - again mostly due to horrible service, but also the most bland Salmon I've ever eaten. Mostly incredibly poor service though.

Our third was probably Crystal Palace. The food was decent, not great, but OK for a buffet, but our waitress sucked big time. She didn't do much for us, she was clearly confused about how to even be a waitress, and she messed something up when she tried to charge us out that took about 30 minutes just to come back to the table to explain that there was a problem that she needed a manager for... so we were stuck there FOREVER after we were ready to go... which was already too long before she came around to even give us the check. At least she wasn't rude about it, but she really did suck as a waitress.

We didn't care for Tony's at the MK; we'd never return. We're not really snobbish when it come to Italian food, but it was really blah...

Ok keep in mind I have been to Disney almost thirty times (many when I was younger though) I will list from worst experience to least :

1.Mama Melrose - 4 years ago- terrible service, dh and I both got sick from food.

2. Yachstmen steakhouse -this june- this was just ok to us. There were a lot of good reviews so maybe we were expecting too much. We have sooooo many amazing steakhouses in NY and this was just nothing special (food ). The steak was cooked waaaay under (dh basically got a raw porterhouse when he ordered med-mr), the mushrooms were bland and the apps were just ok but the service was great!

3. Kona cafe- this always gets good reviews but no one in my party of 4 really liked their food. it was kind of blah for our taste but service was good.

4.Blue Zoo-2 years ago- again I think I was epecting too much plus I have eaten at other Todd English restaurants and they are far superior.

5. Flying fish-this June- food was A++++ but service was terrible. We had ADR's and waited 45 mins- fine. then they tried to sit us in between 2 large parties of 8 people but it was like we were squeezed in-no way would I accept that in a signature place so offered to wait some more. Then waited again for 20 mins. then it took almost 20 mins to order! After that it was good and food was great but I had abit of a sour taste already. i should mention we have eaten here numerous times and this never happened before.

I never knew that the servers at WCC were supposed to be "cute". Anyway, back in 2000 we ate there. The service was scary, just plain O.M.G! My waiter called me a "suicide blonde that failed"....what the heck ever?!!!:confused3 When I asked for a straw he threw about 20 in my face.

Yes, I now know that this was supposed to be "cute". Yeah, whatever. At the time I was horrified and left that server a quarter.

Not necessarily a bad experience but way below expectations
Wolfgang Puck Upstairs at DTD
We have experienced other Puck restaurants and this one was way below standard IMO. Room layout did not work despite views being great. Was a dry atmosphere server left us feeling he was a slave. Food was 50/50 apps and desert great but entree's were neutral and un impressive. On the way out the energy and vibe of the Express restaurant downstairs seemed to be 100% different - should have had pizza and drinks - oh well next time.

Bigwally

This is all very interesting. Two of our favorite restaurants (Garden Grill and Cape May Cafe) always seem to take a lot of abuse, but we visit them both every time and we have never been disappointed. :confused3

Other restaurants on these boards are so overhyped it would be hard to live up to the reviews; disappointment is almost guaranteed in those cases.:sad1:

I do think that by reading all reviews, good and bad, I can get a sense of what to expect from each place. It's all helpful! :earsboy:

Just curious about peoples disappointments, either favorite places that you've been before or places that you were anxious to try and didn't live up to the expectations

This past trip 10/21-11/5

Columbia House - This is one of our favorites and my meal was terrible, fish was hard and nasty and the clam chowder was scary with those huge pieces of gritty clam. Also miss the bread bowl!!

OURS TOO! We have always loved CHH. The fish was very hard and the chicken too breaded and hard. Our trip was in Sept.

-Garden Grill was HORRIBLE! I'm not going to go on about it again...
-50s Prime Time we did twice and it wasn't good. Boring waitresses both times too.
-Liberty Tree wasn't great either.

Other than that we've had only good or GREAT dining experiences in WDW!
