We will be arriving 4/19/08 at POR and would like to just hop the boat to Downtown Disney that evening and randomly pick some place to dine. Will this be an exhausting task popcorn::

One of the reasons we stay at POFQ is because of the boat to Downtown Disney. It is very relaxing and you will enjoy it. It's a nice change of pace from catching the busses to the parks. We're going to try Captain Jack's this time. There is a Rainforest Cafe right when you get off of the boat. We've also been to Bongo's which we enjoyed. Have fun!

From what I hear and read, Earl of Sandwich is the best down there. We've eaten at WPE on our last trip and enjoyed that as well.

If you feel like eating at a restaurant then I would recommend the Rainforest Cafe, however if you want something fast then I would recommend the Earl of Sandwich. In my opinion both locations are very good with the food they serve, so you can't go wrong with either one.

I've also heard that Earl Of Sandwich rocks!!
As for Rainforest Cafe, it's overpriced and personally I think that food is quite bland. I don't know how far you live from one (I'm "lucky" enough to live near 3 of them) but if you do live near one, go there - don't waste your vacation money on this place. Plus, there's another on at AK (I think).
I know I'm gonna get some people giving me the cold shoulder about this, but I've eaten at Rainforest many times (only because my sons LOVES the atmosphere - and there's one about 10 minutes from my house) and the food is blah, BUT the whole aura of the place is kinda cool and the alcoholic drinks are decent.
It's your call........

I have heard the same about Earl of Sandwich, maybe we will try it. Our main concern is about just showing up without a reservation at a DD restaurant.

The Earl of Sandwich is SUPERB. You dont need to book as it is more of a lunch/snack sort of place but the sandwich's are great. The queues can be a bit long sometimes but maybe that was because we were there at Christmas. :goodvibes

I would agree with Earl of Sandwich, but also would recommend Wolf Gang Puck Express. WPE has a very good diverse menu with some good hearty food and some more adventurous choices as well. If you are hoping for a TS I would say cross your fingers and try Fulton's or Raglan Road. Fulton's is a little pricey, but worth the money (especially if Stone Crab Claws and Cioppino are on the menu. Raglan Road is fun and in the evenings they have live music.

Hope you like whatever you choose.

For quick service, Earl of Sandwich is ok (JMHO) and I have heard very good things about WPE. For a sitdown dinner, I would say try and get a spot at Raglan Road. :upsidedow

I love both Earl of Sandwich and WPE. Both are great CS restaurants with lots to offer, and very affordable. I loved the chicken quesadilla at WPE - it was great! Also had the tomato soup and a salad at EoS, which were great.

I'd recommend just going with a CS restaurant, rather than trying to get into a TS. With CS, you can get in and out very quickly, the price is right, and at DTD, you have two great options to choose from.

(PS - Just my opinion, but I ate at Raglan Road in October and thought it was awful! Maybe I just hit them on an "off" night, but the fish and chips were soggy and cold. Every restaurant has good days and bad days, so I guess I just had bad luck!)

We went to Raglan Road for the first time when we were there at Christmas. We ate lunch so everyone basically did salad and sandwiches, but the sandwiches were excellent, the salads fresh and rather large for side salads. The sandwich I had was basically a re-imagined lobster roll. It was stacked between 3 toasted rounds of crustless bread and had a really nice dressing that allowed the flavor of the lobster to shine through; it was accompanied by a Caesar Salad. The only problem we encountered here was less than stellar service, but we enjoyed the lunch and the atmosphere.

Portabellas's has the best Sangria.
