Aint it Cool is reporting that Disney will be remaking a Christmas Carol

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/33244

Zemeckis has written and will direct an adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL with Jim Carrey in line to star as Scrooge as well as the ghosts of Christmas' Past, Present and Future. Disney is footing the bill. Zemeckis is planning to mix live action with performance capture animation.

Does anyone think we need another version of this same story?...so now Disney will have three versions of the same Movie...the Duck, the Muppet and the Hack version.

Yeah, it's been done, but I like several versions of the story. The Muppet one was great, I like the animated Mickey version, and I love Scrooged. If they can bring a fresh angle to the story, it could be good.

But, I'm not sure if it can rival the cinematic genius of Wild Hogs.

I love the Scrooged version as well....
Props man: I can't get the antlers glued to this little guy. We tried Crazy Glue, but it don't work.

Frank Cross: Did you try staples"

I think the "angle" they are going for is that creepy look of Polar Express and Jim Carrey playing every part in the movie.

I know that you threw in the Wild Hogs just for me...Thanks. Are you getting paid every time you post that movie or something?

Yeah, they're going for the polar express look. I don't see how this movie won't suck. Maybe the studio wll be consumed by the earth leaving nothing in burbank but a dopey statue.

I've never really seen the Burbank grounds... so your saying that Eisner built a statue of himself?

I love the Muppet version and I bet the new one with Jim Carrey as Scrooge will be great. :thumbsup2

Personally, I really enjoyed one of the older versions. The one with Allistar Sims done in 1951.

This is such a bad idea. What a waste of resources.

ALthough it's true that every franchise from the Flinstones to FamilyMatters seems to need to have whack at the story, what could they possibly have to offer this time. Ugh.

Don't be snarky.....

I think that it's interseting that this time around the "Polar Express" team is going with Disney. Do you think this will make for a much different movie?

"Polar Express" was the only movie that my 5-yo son would sit through for awhile. I'm hoping this new take on an old classic will also make his list of fully watchable films.

I'm getting tired of re-makes. How many times can you do A Christmas Carol different. Don't we have any new ideas anymore. We are bombarded with remakes and sequals lately. I want to see something new for a change in the movies.

I find this question to be a little funny, like saying we don't need any more productions of Shakespeare. Why would people stop making new versions of A Christmas Carol? It's already wildly popular and proven to stand the test of time, plus you're using a story by one of the best writers in the English language.

Isn't it innately human to desire being retold a story again and again? From the beginning of mankind, sitting around a fire stories have been retold and handed down with details of the story changing from generation to generation. I think there is nothing wrong with putting a new spin on an old story as long as it is meaningful. Sometimes the sitcom rip-offs of "Christmas Carol" and "It's a Wonderful Life" are tacky, but usually a Hollywood movie version is done tastefully. We loved "Polar Express" the movie and are hping that this take on an old classic turns out to be just as worthwhile a use of acting, directing, and technological talent!

Yes every High School, off Broadway and Austin Texas City Playhouse hack attempt at Shakespeare really adds to the brilliance. How many versions do you attend each year?

...and that is exactly what this sounds like another hack attempt at something that has already been done and from the sounds of it, done 100x better.

I'm not arguing that every remake of a classic is great, because many aren't. But to say that classics don't need to be remade because they've already been done is just silly. If "Christmas Carol" and other works aren't performed now (through new movie versions and live performances), then they lose relevance. It's just human nature. If the movie looks dated (black and white, old special effects) and the actors are unfamiliar than people will have a harder time connecting to it than if it is done in a current style with people they "know". I'm sure the Jim Carrey version of "Carol" won't be a masterpiece, but it will bring together culture and pop culture in a way a lot of people can relate to.

As for Shakespeare, I see most of the big name versions that come out (Midsummer's night dream is delightful, and Titus is delightfully disturbing). Next month there's a new adaptation of "As you like it" on HBO that looks promising. Sadly, we don't have any Shakespearean companies where I live- if we did, I would go to see them.

Never said "Never"

BTW there are plenty of movies that stand the test of time and don't need to be remade every year.

So you're the one. Good luck with that.

The last version on that list for a theater release was the muppets, 1992. I really don't think 16 years is too soon for another one, especially since this is a movie that most people see in one form or another every year.

The one, what?
