Dine and Dash (as in, not paying for your meal)

Here, I'll fix the OP's story:

Yesterday was a holiday and I took 3 humans to a restaurant in a theme park for a meal. We were seated next to 3 other humans. They looked to be from a city seeing all of the identifying clothing.

Anyway, I noticed when they were done with their meal they were acting strange. One human put a carrying device on another human, got up, and left towards the exit. I thought nothing of it at first because maybe they needed to be somewhere or go somewhere or something. But then the other human a period of time later started looking around, and then just stared over at our waiter. As soon as the waiter turned away and left the area, the human bolted for the exit! I knew almost immediately that they were doing a "dine and dash". I saw no bill on their table, nor did I remember seeing the server bring a bill.

I assumed that the description was provided so that they could be caught, or recognized by others who happen to be down there. It is difficult to read any racism into this since one woman was white and one was African-American. Tough to make out a case here that the OP was drawing any conclusions there.

The fact that he said that makes me think he already had reservations about how it would come across and thus should have rephrased... But I digress... He was just saving Gotham from the overweight Bears bandits. Citizens beware. If you see a large woman with a Bears shirt.. Run for your life !!

Who cares how much they weighed or the color of their skin or what sports team shirts they were wearing. And who cares that they dined and dashed anyway...it's not your problem. :confused3

So people should live in a bubble and ignore crimes as they are happening? That's extremely disturbing advice.

I really don't care what size or color they were, But I do care if they are stealing. Its criminally and morally wrong to do!

I have had no problem reporting stealing in a local store or restaurant and have no problem doing it ad WDW, Uni or any park.

AKK

- Not being in the food industry, does this happen often?

I worked as a server for many years while I was at college. We are going back some time now ;) but even then, it happened. Even if it happens once, that is one time too many.

Hopefully Disney can find them with the details used to secure the reservation.

I don't agree with the dining and ditching, but why did you have to post all this about weight, where they came from etc? I actually find it more bothersome that you were so busy minding their business and keeping such a close eye on them. Couldn't you just have enjoyed your meal and family and left the cast members to deal with everything else?
Would you have felt the same way if you were enjoying a TS meal and something was stolen from you in a busy restaurant but nobody witnessed it or nobody could provide a description of the perpetrators? I know I'd be a terrible witness if a crime was to occur around me but some people are just extremely observant. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is all a matter of perspective.

There's one thing to be observant and another to be staring down people and knowing their every move. This appears to be more than just a few glances and noticing something wrong. When I'm at Disney with my family I'm not staring at other people.

Newsflash.. we aren't police sketch artists. The post wasn't intended as a bulletin to keep an eye out for them, but rather a discussion on dining and ditching (or dash, which I've never heard before) in general. Two ladies would've sufficed.

This is new....... a DIS "Be On the Lookout". I'll be watching when I go out to pick my daughter up at school later.

While I don't think it matters what these ladies looked liked or how much they weigh....why shouldn't bad behavior be pointed out? Why should anyone get away with stealing? Would you not call the police if you saw your neighbor's house being broken into? Someone's car?

And to the person said they'd gladly point out a shoplifter in a store, etc... Wow...

Seriously?? If you witnessed a crime and were in a position to do something about it, you would stand mute? You have left me speechless. And that is really, really hard to do.

And if you're the type of person that points out what others are doing wrong, unless it's DIRECTLY affecting you... (not indirectly), mind your own DAMN business! Glass houses.. And to the person said they'd gladly point out a shoplifter in a store, etc... Wow...

Um…..so….if you see a shoplifter you just turn and look the other way? :confused3 You do realize that the prices in the store you are shopping in constantly go UP because of shoplifters. Don't you? :sad2:

Well, that's exactly the type of klassy act I expect from a Bears fan.
;)

:lmao:

Wait, what are you wowing about?

So you'd let a shoplifter just leave with merchandise and not tell anyone? WOW

Omg, your post is offensive! As a person who has delivered food to tables in the past, I would appreciate it if you refrained from using the term "waiter". Waitperson, or perhaps, server are the acceptable terms!!

:rolleyes1

I also thought calling it a "bill" might be offensive to people named Bill.

Lol, :thumbsup2. I hope these pieces of trash got caught and thrown out. Like someone said, if you can afford to go to WDW, you can afford to pay for your meal. I feel badly for that kid.

Two points. I wonder if Disney, like other businesses, will even bother to try to find them. It's easier and cheaper to just build the loss into the prices, like credit card companies due for theft and bankruptcy. Theives know exactly how much to steal most of the time to stay "under the limit" of what a company will go after. I had someone in London clone my credit card and took $3000. I tracked it down to the specific store, time and register on my own, but the police fussed at me and said, "you got your money back, who cares?" Visa said unless it was $10,000, they wouldnt even pursue it but just give back the money to me. General apathy. Very sad.

Secondly, isn't pointing out the OPs perceived "misconduct" (if you want to call it that) just as bad as what some people think she did? It wasn't blatantly racist or rude; it just could and was perceived as such by some. I am not taking sides on this either, just trying to figure out why people on chat boards just seem to blast everyone for differing opinions. Some things you just need to let go. I dont mind disagreeing with someone and have often done so, but if it is just something I find distasteful, I just let it go. It isnt pertinent to the subject really and just causes strife. Would I ignore someone in public for being rude to someone because of their color, size, sex, or religion? I probably would call them out if it was rude enough or just go over to the person being slighted and comfort or say something encouraging. Chat boards just get so snarky for such small reasons sometimes.
