Major General John F. Reynolds - This is intended to be very simple. During the early fighting on July 1st Major General John Reynolds led his troops to aid Brig. General Buford's cavalry division who had engaged the Confederate infantry. While placing troops in Herbst's woods, he was killed instantly by a shot to the head. There is actually quite a bit of controversy over he was shot accidently by one of his own men, if it was Confederate infantry unit, or a sharpshooter. This is one of 3 monuments dedicated to Reynolds.

An interesting note about this monument. Back then there was a sort of "code" when making an equestrian monument that the number of hoofs off the ground would tell you the fate of the rider. No hoofs off the ground means that the rider survived, one hoof off the ground means the rider was wounded, but survived, and two hoofs off the gruond means the rider was killed. The sculptor of the Reynolds monument said he didn't know about the "code" but if you look, there are two hoofs off the ground.

BriarRose - I haven't forgot about your question! I asked my girls at SM and they've begun to come up with answers. here's the thread: http://scrapmatters.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=693

Keep an eye on it for even more help.

Caitsmama, I asked this same question a couple of days ago. If you will go to the link listed above, there is a post with a couple of links explaining how to add actions to PSE. I worked around the instructions and figured out how to do it for PSE6, but PSE5 is listed so you should be okay.

Good luck!

Last evening I was glancing at LO (which again are wonderful!) and I noticed one that was done of Goofy. I wanted to ask where the kit was from, but didn't have time. Today, I have searched for it here and on the challange thread, but can't find it. Am I losing my mind? Does anyone remember seeing it? It was a picture of children with Goofy. Thanks!

Not sure if you are referring to my Goofy LO, which I made recently... actually I'm not even sure if I posted it here at DIS... but if it is mine, then it was stickers extracted and the papers and other elements I made myself. If it wasn't mine, then nevermind. If I never posted it here... well then.. tada! :thumbsup2

Here's mine...

And y'all thought I was kidding when I said I was forgetful! :confused3

Jessica -- also you can check out this tutorial - it's geared for PSE4, but i am thinking if i remember, it's just about the same..
http://www.scrapbook-elements.com/tutorials/SBE_Using-Layered-Templates-in-PhotoshopElements4.pdf

Basically - here is my expl.
1.I open the psd. template first.
2.Then, i select the layer in the temp. that i want to use - meaning (add photo, paper whatever to)
Then, when that layer is selected in your layer menu, i go find what i am looking for - by going to "file", then "open" and searching on my computer for it.. then open that up (the paper, photo or whatever)

3.Then, when that element is shown on the PSE screen, do "Ctrl A" to get the lil marching ants around it (selects the item),

4.Then, copy it.

5.Then, go to your template screen, and hit "paste" (making sure that layer is still selected that you want this to go on) and it will paste your photo/paper/whatever -- on top of your template.
Then, THIS IS IMPORTANT: hit "Ctrl G" - that merges the layer in the template that is selected to the paper/photo/ whatever that you just pasted.. then you can resize it to fit your needs.

6.Keep repeating this for the whole layout - then go to "Layers" and merge or flatten the layers. and that's it!

Did that make ANY sense??

Your directions were awesome. I'm doing my LO now!

Here is my page for Britt's template challenge over at ScrapMatters. hat template was a toughie for a first time template user, but I finally conquered it! I still don't really feel comfortable in PSE. I need to do some tutorials or something. Text is so weird and the layers are weird, I could go on and on. Anyway, I survived and here's my LO!

Yes, yes, I am forgetful. It wasn't your Goofy (but great LO by the way!) I finally found the Goofy that I was referring to originally. It was on the "1st digi-scrapper challenge" thread. I didn't think to check there since that challange is over. Thanks for trying to help me (but sometimes I am beyond help! :goodvibes

I would not have guessed this is your first time with photoshop, considering how nice this LO is. When I first opened photoshop (it wasn't for scrapping), I didn't even know how to create a file. I ended up buying a book! Cute design too!

Jessica: I'm a PSE user and it took me a little whole to get it. I found a site, scrapgirls.com and they have e-books that I bought called Secrets to PSE and More Secrets to PSE. They made all the difference for me! I can't say enough about how they got me going great. Plus, scrapgirls I think is running a sale through the 30th or so for 21 percent off so go check it out. You'll get the hang of it. Keep the faith.

I think this link should send you to the right thing. http://store.scrapgirls.com/product...Photoshop-Elements-5.0---Downloadable-version

Cool. I may have to get those. I have used PSE for a while for photo editing, and I do get the concept, but sometimes it just doesn't work the way I THINK it should, KWIM? I have Digital Image Pro, too and it is a lot easier (for some things) and I have CM's StoryBook Creator Plus which is super easy and intuitive, but doesn't have the flexibility of PSE. For now, I do most of my stuff in SBC+ because it is easy and I just want to have fun! But, long term, I want to learn PSE, even if I only use it to make elements of my own.

Thanks for the recommendation, there is so much Digi-scrap info out there, it is hard to tell what is worthwhile and what isn't!

ETA, I thought about adding a title in the big blank space at the top of the LO, but I couldn't decide and I couldn't find the alpha I wanted on my many computers (I can't wait until my laptop comes back!). I was going to use Britt's clear alpha. What do you think? Should I add it?

Jessica: Personally, I like the blank space. Gives the eye a place to rest for a second. That LO came out really great. :thumbsup2

I LOVE THIS LO! That pics of all your girls hugging Mickey melts my heart!!! So glad you did this challenge! :)

Ok, here's my take on that template for Britt's SM challenge. It's our drive down to WDW last fall.

Click pic for credits.

LOVE this LO Fran! So so so dang cute!!!

Fran! That Goofy Hat shaped journal paper is AWESOME!!!!! I LOVE THAT!

That template was a toughie for a first time template user, but I finally conquered it!

You TOTALLY rocked it girl! I am so sorry this was your first attempt at a template. It is BY FAR my most complicated template I've ever created! It has more layers by a mile than any of my other ones! BRAVO for doing such a great job!! You are awesome.

A clear alpha might still give the illusion of white space, but I think the little zoom is your title!! Nothing else is needed!

Jessica,

I did use Brittney's template in SBC+ because it was taking too long in PSE 5. After that experience, I decided that unless I need to create something in PSE 5, I am going to use SBC+.

Your page is very cute! IMHO - I would add the clear alpha - but I am a space filler! I think I have an irrational fear of blank space ;)

Jennifer -- Is there a quick explanation for how to use the templates in SBC+? I have been trying but have not been able to figure it out.... TIA!

Love the new LOs everyone!

That is exactly what I am thinking about doing! How in the world do you use a template like Britt's in SBC+? PLEASE explain!! PSE just makes NO sense to me. Everything seems to take 15 times as long as it takes me in SBC+!

Ok, so how do i load them into PSE5?? I know how to load my brushes, and my styles, but i don't see a folder to load actions in... ??

I just stick them in the same folder as my styles. It's probably not the right place, but when I working on a layout I like that I have that all in the same spot when I'm trying to decide what to use.
