digital cameras

Has anyone got a digital camera that takes good pics at night ie; wishes illuminations etc. Our digital camera is excellent in the day light but not in the dark it is a nikon coolpix 3100. Any suggestions anyone

Not sure if the review here is for a similar camera, but wonder if you tried experimenting with different settings if that would help
