Difference between full and preferred??

I was wondering if someone could explain the difference between a full hook up vs. a preferred site?

Preferred is in what Disney considers a preferred location. Nearer Pioneer Hall and the marina area.. Full hook ups are in a more remote area. Which can be a good thing.

So has anybody seen a difference in the grills and picnic tables between the preferred sites and full sites?

No, that information seems to be incorrect. Preferred sites (at least to this point) have the old grills and tables.

They also failed to mention that most preferred sites are on the small side and crammed close together compared to most full hook up sites. The preferred sites are older loops designed back when RVs were not so large. They are loops 100, 200, 300 with 300 being a pet loop. But if you want to be close to the marina, Pioneer Hall and the beach then the preferred sites are for you.

Disney has changed the loop levels so much in the past two years that only 2 things are certain now...

1500 & 2000 are partial hook-up

All loops with the ginormous concrete pads are premium.

Recently, 1700 & 1800 were considered preferred - although I can't imagine why. I think they are now back to being full hook-up. It's a crap shoot, if you ask me!

As of right now, 1600, 1700, 1800, and 1900 are the only preferred loops. They are also dog loops. We come with our 2 dogs and really like the loops. We would stay in them even if we didn't have the dogs with us. So, if you don't mind dogs and want to save a little money, they are good loops. We have never stepped in a pile of poo. The dog owners are very considerable at the fort. They are close to swimming and we take our bikes and just ride them to the marina to go to Magic Kingdom. We like the quietness of these loops, but that's our personal preference.

This is not correct. 1600-1900 are full hook-up loops. 100-300 are the preferred loops. As already noted, the only difference is location. The preferred loops do not have new grills or picnic tables (I was just there on 8/24/09) so the info on the WDW website is incorrect.

1600-1900 are full hook ups. I think they are bigger than the prefered loops (100-300) The only advantage to the prefered is it's closer to Pioneer hall and the marina. The full hook ups are closer to the pool vs. prefered. I wouldn't pay for a premium site. For us it's just more concrete.

When I was making reservations, I got alot of conflicting information from the reservation line as well as fort wilderness. Finally, I talked to a manager and got the correct information. This can be very frustrating, but we somehow deal with it just to stay at the fort. I guess if this is the only problem, I consider myself lucky. Will be there is October this year. I have never stayed at the fort in October, so I am looking forward to it.

No problem, I figured it was just a slip. The terminology does get confusing.

And, you are right about the confusion being compounded by the front desk hosts, and other employees.

I don't know why they don't just come out an announce the new loop designations. They are surely different from what was first announced. My suspicion is that they are still experimenting with what loops to make pet loops. These designations changed frequently in the past, so they are probably not settled on it yet. And, there have been rumors that they were going to make all loops pet loops. So until then, confusion reigns.

We just spent 10 days at a local CG on a partial sunny site and my A/C had a hard time keeping up with the HEAT and HUMIDITY. We had mid 90's for temp upper 80's for humidity. I had a solid stream of water coming out of the A/C. I was worried that my A/C unit was going to freeze up it was on so much.

IMHO, the 1600-1900 loops are more wooded than the premium loops. When they converted the old loops to premium loops, a lot of trees were removed. I was just at the Fort this month, and the heat and humidity were manageable.

All I can tell you for sure is that you will be in 100, 200 or 300. If you reserve a preferred site, and said nothing about a pet, there is still a chance that they would put you in the 300 loop. They put campers without pets in the pet loops all the time. If you request a non-pet loop in October, you probably have a good chance of being placed in 100 or 200, but no guarantee. And, even if you are placed in 100 or 200, you may have dogs near you anyway, because I have seen folks camping in those loops with dogs on every trip I have taken to the Fort this year. The 100 and 200 loops are smaller loops, so people do have difficulty backing larger rigs into the sites. The sites themselves are generally the same size as other Fort sites, but the tight circumferences of the loop roads is what gives folks trouble. But, people get big rigs into those sites all the time.
