Can anyone explain to me what is the difference/benefit of the lock off vs. the dedicated at AKV?
Thanks so much.

A 2-bedroom lock-off is a 1-bedroom adjointed to a studio by a connecting door. It can be rented as either a 2-bedroom or a 1-bedroom and a studio separately.

A dedicated 2-bedroom is just that; it is a unit which cannot be broken up. Most dedicated 2-bedrooms have 2 queen-sized beds in the second bedroom. A few, however, do not.

Thank you Wilderness Dad. Is there a benefit to either? For example, we will will need a two bedroom for an upcoming trip. It will be my husband, myself, our two small boys, and my sister and her husband. Does it not matter what we get? I noticed the studio had a microwave and minifridge. Does the dedicated have that as well, or only the lock off?

I would like to know as well. Also, does the dedicated only have 1 balcony?

The mini-fridge in the studio would also be available in the lock-off (since that's really just a 1Br and the adjoining studio). But you don't get that mini-fridge (or the extra coffee pot, toaster or microwave) in a dedicated 2BR.

A lock-off has one other advantage - a separate thermostat for the second BR. This is very useful if some of the party is more comfortable being warmer/cooler than the rest.

Because a lockoff is a 1BR joined to a studio, the "2nd bedroom" has it's own entrance door. If adults will be staying in the studio it can be handy for them to have their own door, especially if they keep different hours from the rest of the group (stay out later or get up earlier). If you will have small children staying in the "2nd bedroom" then the dedicated has the advantage that there is no hallway door in their room.

There are no dedicated 2BRs in Jambo House, only lockoffs. Kidani Village will have both dedicated and lockoff 2BRs. You will have to wait several more months for the answer to the question "does a dedicated 2br have only one balcony".

I'm not sure if a lock-off would give you an extra internet connection or not, but you'd have two phone numbers/lines if you have a chatty person in your group!

One possible arrangement for your party is the following.

You and DW in the Master bedroom.
The two small boys in the queen pull-out.
Your sis and her hubby in the lock-off studio part.

Thus I am suggesting a lock-off. But the final decision is in your hands.
