Bunco for me!
And for the tastings, I like wine, martinis, and did anyone say margarita? (Cuz I'm there, if you did)
DH says he'll try it all!

Virdis, STOP getting my hopes up!

Do you buy downloads of the books you want to read? What does that cost? Are they supplied via internet? What genres are available (kids books too)?

For the kindle, you purchase the books on Amazon & they automatically download to your device. I think the most expensive book that I've seen is $10. Many of them are less than that. They seem to have a wide variety of books available - we buy a lot of pre-teen/teen fiction for our daughter. I haven't purchased any kids books - but it looks like they do have them.

Hi! The Coffman's and the the Popovich's are in for the wine or beer or whatever tasting. So please add 5 (my Mom is going to cruise with us now too!) Thank you for organizing this!

Sounds good. I'll add you guys to the list. If you can please PM me with all the names.

I would love to join you guys at the tasting, however I really do not drink. Can I just come to socialize and watch all of you get drunk?? :lmao::lmao:
Too funny. I don't think it would be a problem for you to join us. :goodvibes

ooh yes, I'd be up for margaritas. I'll be sure its on the list of possibilities. I haven't heard from them yet but I'm hoping they reach out soon.

Just started to work on my FE's. I can't beleive we are just 5 1/2 weeks away. Now I'm sure time is going to start whizzing by and I still have so much to do. Which reminds me. We are closing the polls for the lanyards on the 15th but if you guys can please start PM me with the names. I'll start pulling together that list as well.

dcl site shows no avaibility for adults traveling with children, the only show avaibility for partys of one or two adults.does this mean the clubs are full to capacity?

So I went in and put 2-A and 2-Y I left the youths at 17 (because I was to lazy to change them) and there were rooms in every Cat. except inside, but when I put the kids real ages it says there are no rooms at all. SO I would guess the kids clubs are going to be full

Yep, expect a very full ship of kids!

I did a little "Virdis Study" (hehehe) of my own and found there are a LOT of cabins (up to 40ish) available, and what's really interesting is a lot of them are in sequence. Like 7114, 7116, 7118 or 6588, 6590, 6592, 6594 and so on, just to point out a few. Interesting tidbit, not sure what it means other than they obviously did shuffle cabins around or held back cabins which they just released. I know they reserve cabins for special guests because on our PC cruise, Kaylee (fourmcds) had Ducky Williams in the cabin next to her and I think towards the end another notable was staying in the cabin. :confused3

Woohoo  I heard from DCL today re: our tasing. Here is the information they shared.

1- Request an item for tasting – for instance beer or tequila or martinis. Other choices may be mixology or champagne. The final decision will be affected by who is on the ship at the time to lead the tastings.

:woohoo: I reached out to ask for details on the mixology as that sounds very interesting. Once I hear back we can decide on which we would prefer.

2- Minimum number of guests 25 – maximum 50

:thumbsup2 I don't have my list with me at the moment but I think that we meet the 25 person minimum. Will provide an update later this evening.

3- $20 per person, non refundable. I will need a list of names before the sail date and if they choose not to attend they will still be charged if their name is on the list. All payments are charged on the ship.

:goodvibes It's great the DCL will take care of billing the fees. This is how they did on my first cruise. I think the price has gone up a bit but these days what hasn't. I still think it's a good deal to have our own little private function.

4- Cutoff date. I must have all names one week prior. New names cannot be added within the 7 days.

 I'll post the current list and will continue to take additional requests till we hit 50 or the cut-off date which I'll set as April 7th

5- You may request a time and date but the ship will have the final say depending on space available and their schedules. :)

:cool1: I think we should do this on a sea day and would suggest Tuesday, April 19 or Thursday April 21st. What say you guys and what time do you think would be good?

Speak to you all soon.

Actually I just noticed that we have a Coffee Social on Thursday the 21st at 2:00 so let's look at Tuesday the 19th or Saturday the 23rd around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Please let me know your thoughts.

Hm...I think you may be right, something is going on. But today I am seeing rooms available that have not been available. We upgraded last week but got the last room available in our category and it is one that I don't want. However, today there are rooms in the next category up that have not been available. Maybe DCL is on to me and want me to pay for the upgrade, lol. But you're right...something is going on.

Virdis, every time I read your theories I get excited. I keep hoping for an upgrade, but I seriously doubt it will happen.

So the rooms are now back but like Lisa mentioned, they are diffent now. At the advice of my dear wife, I am going to stop looking because it is driving me crazy! :headache:

There seems to be no logic and even when I keep track of what cabins open and disappear, there is no pattern. So I have agreed to gladly accept any free upgrade DCL might offer, but more importantly focus in on the cabin that we have today which is 7500. Otherwise, I am going to get sent to the looney bin before our cruise starts. :rotfl2:

With all of the rooms now back open, I still am hoping some more folks here get upgraded :thumbsup2

OK...now can someone please sign us up for one of the many tastings on board. Drinks with the gang of folks here would take my mind off of this topic :dance3:

I would love to do this, probably the martini or beer. I will ask dh when he gets home from his business trip tomorrow.

Helen, Thanks again for working this. Any day we can sit down over a few drinks (of any kind) with our new DIS friends is fine with us (although doing it early in the trip might jumpstart the fun )! Just wondering...Is there any way to find out what days they have the "public" tastings scheduled (so we can do those too :drinking1:drinking1)? I've checked out the 7-day Navigators but have no idea of how they will translate to a 10-day trip? :confused3

Thanks so much for making the arrangements for this! :worship: The mixology has me intrigued.:scratchin Should be fun!

Yes, docs came today, but I haven't had a chance to open the envelope. I will also accept any free upgrade offered to me (or do I need to beg?) but I'm fine with my current room (although my DS, 19 isn't)

Martini's, yes please.
Mixology, yes please.
And because we are in Mexico, Margarita, yes, PLEASE!

And, for those of you wanting to make this an annual event, there is a MR cruise scheduled to leave on Easter - 4/8/12. Who wants to book early for that discount?

Forgot to ask....

This is my first cruise ever. I get motion sick in the car all the time, so I figure I will be prone to sea sickness.

I have gotten the patch from the M.D. I have also bought the bonine. What is your guys experience. Should I take the bonine 24 hrs before and hope that works well... if not add the patch? Or should I go full throttle and use the patch? I am scared to use the patch, because of the side effects- dry mouth, dilated eyes, I CANT drink!

Also, what about the kiddos? Do they get sea sick at all? My pedi told us to give them benadryl if needed. Did anyone have to do this?

Thanks!
Be careful with the patch - I tried one many years ago - took 3 days for my sight to return!!! I agree with whoever suggested you try it first at home. Most of the medications for seasickness are antihystamines - sometimes benedryl will work. Meclizine (bonine) is over the counter...you can buy it and try it at home also. I personally have found they make me sleepy and do help. Ginger is the best solution, I have wrist bands as well. I have to use these things to fly, not watercraft...but the problem is the same. The wrist bands can not be the stretchy kind, they are not tight enough, and you have to wear both to get them to work - the directions say one will do - they lie.

Do you buy downloads of the books you want to read? What does that cost? Are they supplied via internet? What genres are available (kids books too)?
there are many websites for all kinds of books...some are unit dependent, kindle is pretty specific to Amazon, Nook is from Barnes & Nobel and supports the most types of e-reader format, there are other brands as well - but I am not familar with them. Baen.com has many free (thousands!) of science fiction books. Every Friday BN.com has a free book as well. One has to have the internet connection available to obtain the books. The Kindle is "hot" all the time (so using while inflight is tough) the Nook as the option of turning it off. Not sure if that is too much or not enough info...PM if you want more :)

...came today!
jealous...so jealous...I will check todays mail in the morning when I get home (fingers crossed!!)

Mine too! :cool1: Is it too early to put my luggage tags on my suitcases?

Love the Baen site for books! :thumbsup2 My Kindle has an option to turn the wireless on or off. Off is especially good for conserving battery life (I can go weeks without recharging) and I have no problems whatsoever using it in a plane.
