Do you think they're having an especially difficult time lining up excursions since our new Cabo day is Easter Sunday?
I had originally contacted an independant provider in Mazatlan, and she said that as much as she hated to turn down business, it would be best if we didn't book with her.
Her words:
"Easter Sunday is very problematic. In Mexico it is tradition for everybody to go to the beach during Easter - not just Mazatlan people - people from the entire country. Mazatlan is filled to overflowing on Easter - traffic will be a problem."
I assume Cabo will be filled to overflowing as well.
I have a slightly different thought. The week of our cruise is Holy Week (also called Semana Santa in Mexico). From what I've read, this is a
major holiday week for people in Mexico. Schools and businesses are closed and most people head to beaches. I am guessing we will see major crowds that week. We will be in PV on Ash Wednesday so I am expecting to see it crowded when we get off the boat.
Manzanillo will be on Good Friday. Again, I think we will see a good amount of people out. The first day of Cabo is Easter Sunday. The problem may not be overcrowding but can
DCL get tour operators to do a good number of excursions on that day. Easter Sunday is at the same level as Christmas. I don't think everything will be open that day. A lot of people will probably end up at local Easter festivals or in church that day.
I really hope that they open up our lower Cat. 10 and pixie dust us to a higher category. We did not take part in KSF, paid for 4 adults and 1 child (even though we have 2A & 3C) and booked 18 months ago. I am actually kinda kicking myself that we did not change to the KSF offer last June and booked a Cat. 4 with hopes to upgrade to a 3. There are still at least 3 Cat. 3 avail. Oh well, I keep convincing myself I am very happy with the SPH rooms we have.
Kristi....you guys will be happy. All of the SPH rooms I've seen on the boards are very cool and the fact you have connecting SPH rooms on deck 5 is just awesome. I wish were were in the same area as you guys.
As for upgrades, I would really love to see the process that DCL uses. Looking from the outside (not knowing their standard operating procedures), it does not seem to be very organized. I got to believe that there is some method to the madness. DCL's goal is to move (or upgrade) folks in the higher categories so that they can free up these rooms for last minute folks who want to cruise. The whole idea is that these are the cabins they have the best chance of selling last minute before the cruise starts since they are cheaper. They do this in leiu of reducing the cost of the lower categories (otherwise we all would want the cheap low category...and it would devalue the lower categories to some extent). By doing this, the hope is that they will fill the boat or bring it close to full capacity.
What makes this an interesting process to me is that they have different scenarios and combinations to deal with. Not all cabins can fit equal amount of people. Some cabins can only have 3 while others can hold 4. When they start to shuffle folks with the upgrades, they have to also contend with large families or groups with connecting rooms. It looks like (from reading on the dis boards) sometimes they will move a category 11 or 10 to category 4 or 3. In other instances, they move a category 11 or 10 to an occupied category 5, 6, or 9 which in turn they move those occupants up to a category 4 or 3.
The process appears to be different on every cruise as all of the variables are constantly shifting. Then they also have instances where people refuse the upgrades (for example...seen people refusing to be moved for category 10/11 to category 9 because the category 9 is on deck 1 or 2 which people seem to have negative reactions to (don't get why being lower with a view is worst than being higher with no view)
Anyway, I guess we may never know unless you talk to someone at DCL that does this whole process. All I hope is that the "madness" finds of us on this meet to get upgraded.
