Diez (10) Noches Calientes en la Riviera Mexicana/17 de abril 2011 (4.17.11 Wonder!)

Here's Randi's response about the youngest age she will take horseback riding:

Hola Dany,
Thank you for asking. The youngest that I can take would be 3 years old.
I have special guides for the little ones and special equipment to make sure
they can't fall off. I hope this helps.
Let me know,
Best,
Randi
Yay! That means DD6 can go:hippie:. There are not too many excursions she can do.

Thanks for adding us!
Don't worry about it. I'm sure it will be fine. We stay up late to the point that we can't keep our eyes open, no matter what's going on around us.

You are so sweet Jennifer. Glad to be stateroom neighbors.

Thanks Dany for finding this information out for us. My son will be 2 weeks away from 3. I don't think he will be ready by then. Gives us something to look forward to the next MR cruise.

Hi Everyone,

I just booked the Kids Sail Free Cruise a couple of weeks ago and we are so excited to not only get a fab deal but to experience our FIRST cruise on the Disney Wonder!

My two kids will be 4 and 2, and hoping the 2-year old is able to enjoy the nursery. My husband and I are looking to utilize the babysitting option.

Nice to see such an active board for this cruise!

Welcome Michelle!! I also have a 2 year old son. He will be turning 3 a few days after we get back from the cruise. I hope to be using the club for him.

Susan, thanks for this link, it is great. I am starting to research all of our excursions now. You're right, it is hard to find stuff the younger ones can do. However I have found if you go direct with an excursion company and not through Disney they have different age requirements, often the younger ones can participate.

Regarding Randi's Happy Horses, and this may be really dumb question, her sight says to bring cash to pay with. What currency does she accept? :scratchin: Also, how much extra should we bring for lunch?

we are from Canada but go to Mexico a lot
we found its easier to use US money down there rether then pesos
and at a tourist stop expect to pay close to price you would at home for meals as a gauge

Hi Everyone!! I have been reading all the great info!! For those of you who have been to these cities before and on a MR cruise before... what weather should we expect?? How warm does it get? are the seas rough??

we normally go early may
and some times get a quick shower about 4 in the afternoon for less then 30 minutes
the temp seems to avg about 32 to 44 C (I am not sure what that converts to)

:laughing: I don't know what that converts to either!! I will have to ask my children....How sad is that!!:laughing: Does the ship rock alot?? We have never cruised and that worries me a bit.

Here are the average April temps for our ports (couldn't find Manzanillo):

Cabo - Avg High: 79 - 84 F Avg Low: 63 - 67 F
Mazatlan - Avg High: 84 - 87 F Avg Low: 72 - 74 F
PV - Avg High: 79 - 84 F Avg Low: 63 - 67 F

I've never found the seas to be rough going to Mexico, but that's often a matter of perception. What I find pretty calm others might think is rough. (Sorry, that's not a very helpful answer, is it?)

Randi takes US dollars, so does the restaurant we go to after the ride (Victor's). Best I can remember 3 of us ate lunch for about $30 last time. That was for some really yummy shrimp platters!

Almost everyone in the tourist areas we will visit is going to take dollars; we've never converted any money to pesos. But be sure to bring some small bills if you want to bargain for the best prices since not everyone will give you change back in dollars.

Both times we went the weather was warm - lovely in Mexico. LA on the other hand, was a bit breezy/chilly. The 2005 cruise, was a tiny bit rough coming home from Cabo to LA. But really not bad at all.

Any ideas on what might be planned for the five days at sea? Has there been a 10-day MR cruise before? If so and there were five sea days just like ours, does anyone have the old Navigators so we can maybe have some well-educated guesses?

I think we are not really going to know. There has not been another 10-day MR. I think we will have to go off of the other long specialty cruises. Just a guess, but I think they might add shows and activities that they had in the Med. I have heard about some special shows and days that were added for the Med.

Maybe Connie can fill us in on some of the activities that were added on the longer cruises.

There hasn't been another 10 day MR cruise to gauge things from, and I believe we are the first west coast Easter cruise also. I think this may also be the first time in Manzanillo, unless one of the Panama Canal cruises stopped there. For us, at least, this will be our first time on the Wonder. So there are lots of fun anticipation for new and exciting things. ;)

Woo-Hoo! So fun and new things for all of us! Actually, since this is our first DCL cruise, it's ALL new to my family. And everyone in my family wants to do Randi's Happy Horses, so do I book directly with her? And do I need to say we want to be with this group, or will be just be grouped together anyway? Thanks for all the info you've all provided. Man, these excursions really add up!:earboy2:

Just send Randi an email at randi@randishappyhorses.com and tell her you want to make a reservation. She'll need ship, date, # and ages of people in your group and you'll be all set. You'll probably still be with the rest of us who've already reserved; I doubt she's filled up the first group yet this far out. Usually everyone goes together unless the group gets too big, then she puts the later people in their own group. Looks like we're the only ship in Mazatlan that day so there shouldn't be too many riders.

Dany

So true, the excursions do add up! But they are so fun also. As Dany said, reserving the ride was as simple as sending an email with some specifics. They replied very quickly with all the details. Very easy!

I just made it to through the FE Homemade Gift Photos thread and my daughter was right, I'm caving - I just can't resist, despite the added stress. Sign us up for FE. :dance3: I cannot believe how talented some people are. It was amazing. I'm already trying to figure out gifts! Do we have any idea what the group size cutoff will be? I'm trying to determine a budget, even a ballpark would be helpful.

Hi Luck1 ~

Thank you for the links, that helps so much! Today I was trying to explain it all to my hubby, and that needs more work, so the pics will help :)
