Dieting for Disney

Ok everyone. You all need to get together in one voice and tell me how foolish or stupid I am. Yes, I have tendonitis in my wrist. Yes, it hurts. No, I haven't stopped lifting the weights. Actually, I had a very good workout tonight that worked on most of my upper body. And yes, my wrist and hand is killing me. I know it is foolish for me to go against the doctors wishes but my psyche will not let me stop. Slow down and lighten up, yes but not stopped. Don't flame me too bad for being stupid. Remember, I am from the South. We are known for not being the brightest people in the World. I have kept up my cardio mileage and was able to finish the week with 175 miles. Didn't make it to the 200 miles that I had hoped for but still a good number.

Jen, I hope you have a great time next week while you are off and about. Don't be afraid to let yourself go a little. It's ok. You have earned it. Just have the mindset to get back into the routine when you get back.

Here it is. We have officially arrived! The Olympics have started. We have talked about it some in the past and now they are here. Here is my question. Which event do you think you could compete in? I don't mean at the level of the Olympians. I mean can you do the 100 meter sprint, marathon, javelin, bicycling, or what? Here is my challenge to everyone. Pick an event. Name it to the group. When the 1st, 2nd and consecutive rounds are competing, you do the event as well. When you are done, post your times, distances or results each night and try to better the results each time. If I hadn't hurt my wrist, I would have picked weightlifting but now, I will do something in Track and Field. This will only be fun if everyone does it so let's all train together and experience some personal bests!!!:cheer2: Come on now! You can do it!!!

Team Leader Bryan:cheer2: :yay: :woohoo:

Back from WDW ~ but in hiding.

Hope everyone is doing great!

Welcome Back! But now it is time to come out of hiding. We want to hear about your trip. I really want you to make me jealous since the next time I will be down will be in January for the races.

I wish I could make you all very jealous but I can't.
Arrived the night of July 31st to have the night alone at the AKL......bought a bunch of postcards to send out as a fairy godmailer, had a few cocktails and met a lovely couple from Texas that I chatted with.
4am Friday morning I had such pain in my face & I thought I was having a nightmare that I couldn't open my right eye!
After a few minutes I got up and went to put the light on to look in the mirror and my face, cheeks & eyes we swollen, skin hot, itchy, purplish to the point it would have been hard to recognize me and there was pain in my face, eye, even my upper gums.
I called the front desk & asked about local hospitals which they explained as well as a visiting doctor service. I called the service and about 2 hours later the doctor was in my room. I was bit during the night by a brown reclouse (sp) spider. They were building a DVC next to where I was staying and the doc told me the spider was disturbed by the building and choose my room for safety.:confused3
I spent the entire vacation in the room....had to stay out of the sun, pool and had all kinds of weird symptoms, muscle aches, headache, nausea. etc. They put me on antibiotics for 2 weeks and Benydryl. I was out of the room a total of a day and a half.:sad1:
Yesterday, I actually went to my own doctor & he increased the antibiotic strength and added almost 2 more weeks. I have to soak my face all day and see him again Tuesday.
Bottom line I can't wait to go back in December and catch up with my old buddy Mickey.

Maria I sincerely hope that you are doing ok. I can't imagine going through that anywhere, let alone at WDW. Please keep us updated on your condition. Get better soon!

Bryan

Oh Maria I am so sorry to hear about what happened on your trip! That is no way to spend a trip. I hope all is going better now.

Bryan I hope your wrist is doing better. It sounds like it is at least a little bit. Just be careful. I care that you don't injure it any further. Sounds like you are doing great! Keep it up! :cheer2:

Well, I LOVE the OLYMPICS!!! I have been watching in awe since the opening on Friday. My favorite events are Swimming and Gymnastics. I have never been a sporty person so I do not know if I could ever do what they do. But, I am trying to be as healthy. :cheer2: I am so amazed by how fast they go. So, I am going to make an Olympic goal for this week and into next week because the olympics goes 2 weeks.

Goal for week: For every medal that the US wins I add 30 seconds of activity to my workout. So far we have won 12 medals. That means tomorrow I am adding 6 minutes to my workout. :teacher: :yay: As the week go on so does my workout. (Talk about pushing it to the limit!)

Well Team DFD we can do it!! :grouphug: Keep up all the great work! I know we can!

I could just feel your pain. So sorry you had to go through that, let alone in WDW. I'm sooo glad that you have a trip coming up to help ease the pain. Great pictures though! Be well...

Bryan - I hope your wrist is feeling better. I won't lecture you on going against doctor's orders (grin..), but I hope you can ease up a bit. Cardio can be your best friend. ;) I'm thinking about you and rootin' for ya!

Evita - GREAT goals! Nothing quite like the Olympics to help motivating you is there? Keep up the great work!

As for me, exercise great, food not so great. Weight consistent. That's my story in a nutshell! I've got less than 2 weeks until Disney, so it looks like I won't meet my weightloss goal. *sigh* Still, I'll be in Disney, and I plan on running around Pop and the Poly each morning. I did that last year during free dining and it helped keep my weight gain to a minimum.

Here's to a great week everyone!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the:grouphug:
Great idea about adding time to your workout!
I think the Olympics are so exciting and some of the stories so inspiring.:goodvibes
I am going to head back to my gazelle if the doctor clears me tomorrow. My body is really feeling so much slower with my exercise reduced to nothing.
I will post after I see the doctor tomorrow.

Everyone keep up the great work!

Good evening everyone! I know I have been silent for the last couple of days but I have been reading all of the posts. I think I have been quite for a couple of reasons. 1) I have been trying to think of what event I can try to do, in relation to the Olympics. 2) I took the weekend off from the gym to rest and I am going to take Friday off as well. Saturday is my little walk/race and I want to go in there rested and fresh. (I really don't want to make a fool of myself and finish dead last.) I have still been doing some strength training without putting too much undo pressure on my wrist. (Thank you for all of the thoughts with that.) I am also trying to average about 25 miles per night on the bike to at least be able to turn in 100 miles.

I think I have picked the racewalking finals for my event. The race is on Saturday of this week, actually during my 5k. The only problem is that their race is a 20k, which is a little more than 12 miles and my total race is 4.2 miles. So I can do my race and then go to my local track and finish the 12 miles or I can average it out and see if I can best my best previous time. I think the competitor in me will say to go for the total distance but honestly, I am going to hold onto that decision until Saturday. I want to see how I feel. The last thing I want to do is to injure myself.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. I look forward to hearing about all of your successes. Eva, I love your challenge. Keep it up. Christa, as you said, you may not have made your goal but you are about to be in WDW. I still have to wait until January before my next trip. Maria, let us know how you are doing and what the Doc said.

I will shut up now and get some rest. Everyone have a wonderful night.

Bryan

Hey Everyone....

Just giving my half week report a little early since I may not be on tomorrow to check in. Hard to believe that it is Wednesday already.

First of all...how about those olympics....huh?

Well, the USA team must have heard about my challenge because they keep winning! :rotfl2: Now, don't get me wrong...I fully intended on them to win alot, that is why I set my goal the way I did. But, they have done so well in the last few days. Now, I have to go 13.5 minutes extra with my workout tomorrow than just 6 minutes on Monday. GO TEAM!! :yay: I am happy with my goal this week....pushing limit but still attainable. :thumbsup2

The good news is that school next week and I will be back in the POOL!!! I can not WAIT!

OK my team and family....GO OUT AND BE YOUR BEST!! I hope everyone has a great rest of the week. We can do it! I know we can! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Good Morning DFD Team!!

Update on the spider bite, well it's not good. Another 2 weeks on antibiotics, soaking it 6-8 times a day & generally feeling like crap.
I went to the doctor yesterday and he said I may even have a scar. The bite & damage was/is so deep he said it was equal to a 3rd degree burn with infection & celulites (sp).
My biggest concern is I've made it through 3 rounds of lay offs and if they are looking for more people to "lay off" this might have caused me to be on the list.
I just need to try & stay relaxed and realize I can't control everything.

I hope to start pilates again Monday, I have hit a major plateau:headache: which is making me crazy.

~Maria

Oh Maria....I am so sorry about the bite. I wish it was healing right and everything. I hope it does not have too much adverse effect. Good thoughts and wishes are always with you. :) Hope you heal quickly.

Team DFD I am sorry for being quite this week. I have been sabotaged at work for most of the week. I wasn't able to get near as much training in as I would have liked but I did get some overtime at work so I will "take the money and run".

Today was the day for my 5k. During the race, I was able to set a personal best time. I finished the race in 35 minutes flat (according to the clock). My previous best was 43:30 so I was really happy about that. What shocked me was that I did a lot more jogging than normal for me. I didn't jog the whole thing but I did do a lot of it. Then, about 25-30 minutes later, we had a 1 mile fun run/walk and I was able to do that in 10:30.

What did I learn today? I learned that I still have little endurance or cardiovascular conditioning. I say that because we were not in the race for 1 minute and I was already breathing heavy thru my mouth. (I think someone made the reference that I sounded like a dog panting.:confused3 ) But I kept on. There was one case where I saw a young, teenage girl get overheated and she had to sit down and take a break. We got some of the "rovers" to her as fast as possible to make sure she was ok. Otherwise, my legs have gotten really tight after the race so I think I am going to stop there but I am going to go outside and cut the grass so my activity for the day isn't over.

Everyone else is doing great. Eva, the USA must have gotten word about what your challenge for yourself was. They are really racking up some good medal counts. Keep up the great amounts of effort. Together, we will achieve our goals and we will win the race!!!

GO TEAM!!!!

Bryan:cheer2:

Eva, everytime we win a gold I think of you! You go girl and that you for the sweet post the other day, much appreciated.

Bryan, you are doing a remarkable job! I wouldn't even attempt what you did today! Kudos to you!

I am officially having a very lazy weekend. DH is out of town & I am happily home in my pjs. Some bad tv, my puppy, the Dis & a stack of books will be my company until tomorrow evening...Haven't had a weekend like this in a long time:)

Hope you are all doing well & enjoying the end of summer.....Can't believe it is almost over, makes me sad.

Maria

I'm baaaaackk!

Maria--that may be the saddest vacation story I've ever heard. Take care of yourself, and stay far, far away from spiders. Best wishes for complete healing and no scarring! I'm so glad you have another trip to look forward to.

Bryan--take good care of that wrist. It sounds like you had an awesome race and walk/run. Congratulations!! As far as the heavy breathing goes, I'm a sweater...not the knit kind, but a person who sweats heavily. I've found that it doesn't matter whether I'm in great shape or lousy shape, I tend to sweat heavily either way when I exercise...maybe you're just a heavy breather (you should look into providing sound effects for horror films...they always need heavy breathing just before the bad guy jumps out from behind the door).

Eva--Wow, team USA must have heard your pledge loud and clear, because they are racking up the gold medals. That's an awesome goal.

Update--Vacation was wonderful...not a spider in sight...and I watched for them thanks to the warnings on here. I did let myself splurge a bit with the meals out because we eat out so rarely here at home. I ended coming back a pound heavier, but I think a lot of that is because of the extra salt I took in and not drinking enough water. The hotel did have a great workout facility which I took advantage of a few times.

As far as olympic sports, I'm going with the beach volleyball. We have a net set up in our yard which I don't use nearly frequently enough, and I really love volleyball. I'm going to make it a point to play at least 4 times with the kids this week, and to spend some time really getting back the fundamentals which I've lost. Great challenge.

It's good to be back!

NEVERENOUGHWDW  So sorry to hear all that's going on. I've been thinking about you a lot and hoping that you're starting to feel better. Have you done pilates this week? Hope things are starting to look better for you!

Bryan, WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your time was fantastic!!! FYI - I've been running for over a year, and I still breath heavily quite quickly. My recovery is quite fast though, so I still consider myself in better shape than I was a year ago. I'm so proud of you!!!!

Evita - how's the Olympic games going for ya?? The US Olympic team must've known your goal, so they stepped up to the plate! LOL

jamesnnick - Welcome home!!!! Glad to hear you had such a great trip and didn't gain much weight to boot! Way to go!

Well gang, this may be my last post before our trip. I hope to maintain my running while in Disney. We're having a split stay between Pop Century and the Polynesian - both have great running paths - so I'll definitely put those to use. Hopefully it will help offset all the free dining..... :scared1: In the meantime, I've kicked up my running even more to burn a few more calories before the trip. I'm wearing a bikini on this trip.......which isn't exactly forgiving!!! :scared1:

Have a great couple of weeks everyone and I'll chat again when we get back. I'll need y'all to help me get back into my exercise/eating routine!

OH I AM SOOOOOOOO Jealous! People get to go to WDW and I must wait till Christmas....:worship: Actually, I am just excited that I get to go. I just wish I was there for my Anniversary. (It happens right during FREE Dining!)

Ok, I have not been very vocal around here...and I am sorry. I have been trying to get all my workout in. Not always successful but I wake up and try again right? :thumbsup2 Yes, I am VERY impressed with our Olympic team. I now have to do 39.5 minutes of extra workout! (The way we win medals it will be 40 minutes before I finish this post.) ;) That is OK, I am back in school now and am in a water class once again!! :cool1: I LOVE being back in the water. I am signed up for two hours 3 times a week. I am so ready to go this SEMESTER!!! I can't wait to see some progress.

I hope everyone is doing well! Maria I hope all is going OK. You guys are GREAT! Let's keep up the GREAT work and stay motivated! CJK enjoy the World, and enjoy those running trails! :cheer2: Bryan, haven't seen you around...but I hope you are GREAT too. Jamesnnick it is good to have you back!

OK DFD TEAM.....Keep it up! Let's do it! We are all in this together! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :grouphug:

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!

Eva, I'm so happy your back in the pool! I know you love the pool so it makes being healthier so much easier.

Sounds like so many of us are headed to WDW for Christmas, one of the things I love most about being there in December is all the walking we do & the weather is so beautiful.
Headed back to the doctor tomorrow, hopefully my progress is still headed in the right direction.

Hope everyone is having a great day!:goodvibes
