Dieting for Disney

Just a quick note to see where everyone has been. The week is almost over. We have 2 more days to see what we can put into this week. Let's never look at it as what we are going to get out of this week but what are we going to put into it. We are the winners of the world and the only way to keep that label is to keep a postive attitude and outlook on life, our training and most importantly ourselves. I believe in every single one of you here on this thread. I feel like I know you and know a little about your character. So with that being said, let's take ourselves to a whole new level that no one has ever seen from us before. Push ourselves beyond our limits and make us proud. For instance, I have never went further than a 10 mile walk. Before this weekend is up, I vow to do the full 13.1 needed for the 1/2. Who else wants to make a commitment? Come on! You can do it!!!

Uplifting Bubba:cheer2: :woohoo:

I WANT TO MAKE A COMMITMENT!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi everyone! This week has been going good. Trying to keep my goals to be happy and healthy! :) I have been getting some good exercise this week, and am trying to keep myself busy while sitting here at the computer. :surfweb: I don't always remember, but I like the suggestion of the fitness ball. :thumbsup2 Maybe then I won't lean back and relax! :rotfl2: :goodvibes No, really that is a good idea, I may have to consider it.

Ok, my commitment for the end of the week is....

***Jog my block up and back....I usually just walk, but maybe I should try to go as far as I can with a slow jog. I am sure to work up a good endurance if I go between the two. :cool1: This will definite push my limit. (Especially, since I don't have the pool available right now.) I will try this for the next 3 days. Who knows, I just might start to like jogging. :scared1:

Thanks BRYAN! Thanks TEAM!! We are AWSOME!! Let's KEEP IT UP!!!!

Are any of my fellow DFD's be in WDW July 31st?
We will be there until August 5th & would love to meet you guys!:cool1:

OK! I have officially done it. I just got back from doing my distance for the 1/2, 13.1 miles. It took me 3 hours and 1 minute. That's the good news. The bad news is that my legs and feet are killing me. I wanted to quit right around mile 11 but I couldn't let myself do it. I had to keep going as I knew I had told all of you that I was going to do it this weekend. I didn't want to let anyone down.

Thank you for giving me the motivation to do this!

Bryan

Bryan--I'm sorry that your hearing impairment has had a negative impact on your life. I'm sure that your personality shines through any speech problems that it caused, and that is what people see in you. Congratulations on your 13.1 miles--that is absolutely awesome! Watch out 1/2 marathoners, Bryan's comin' through.

Twotoohappy--thanks for the advice. Since the school I work for is in the middle of a cornfield, I think I'll bring my workout clothes and jog the track after work--it will certainly be easier to get my workout in sans kids! I really do love the Wii fit. It has a combination of yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance games. My one complaint with the aerobics is that you have to go back to the menu to change activities frequently, so it's hard to keep my heart rate up consistently. However, it is lots of fun!

Eva--your commitment sounds awesome. My mom can't jog because of her knees, so she does what she calls wogging, which is a fast walking pace with larger arm movements. Keep up that moving when you're on the computer...you have been doing a fantastic job of finding ways to fit that exercise in.

Update--I was a little frustrated because I've been working out faithfully and tracking what I eat. The first week I lost 5.5 pounds, and last week, I lost a big fat 0 (no pun intended) doing the same things. I wanted to head for the Hershey bars, but I remembered Bryan's post about making a commitment and that he was going to be walking over 13 miles this weekend...So, my commitment is to not give up and to try harder. I'm going to try increasing my water intake and the intensity of my workouts to see if that helps! Thanks so much to you guys for leading the way in the right directions.

Have a great week
Jen

Jen Thank you so much for the accolades but I really don't feel worthy of such. I never have. I have customers that come into work all the time that will not deal with anyone else but me. No matter what they are looking for. They just like the way that I treat them, I guess. At least, that's what they always say to me. I try to down play it all the time. There are a few truths that I hold dear. #1) A pat on the back is 18" away from a kick in the pants. (It sounds funny but it is true.) 2) The worst thing someone can do is believe in their own hype. If I go around saying that I am the greatest, the smartest, fastest or even best in shape, does that make it so? Nope. That makes me an egotist. If I go around trying my best to treat everyone fairly, equally and with respect, does that make me the best? Nope again. That is me using the gifts that I have to the fullest that I can. We all have gifts but we don't all know what they are or how to use them. So again, I say thank you but I am nothing without all of you here, I promise you that.

Update I was at the gym a while ago riding on the bike watching a little tv when I came up on something. I don't think I can remember how it went word for word but I will give you the general idea. I was watching the original Karate Kid movie. There was something in there that actually struck home for all of us, or at least me. Pat Morita was working on his Banzai Tree and Daniel came in and said he didn't want to help because he didn't want to mess it up. And then the following scene proceeds: "Danielson, close eye. Visualize tree. Nothing else. Just tree. See picture of what you want tree to look like. See picture. Now, open eye and put picture into tree." Danielson replies: "But how will I know if it is the right picture?" Morita says: "If picture comes from inside you, it is always right."

WOW! Now that is our training in a nut shell. We have a picture in our mindseye on how we want to look, feel and sometimes even act. We never know if we are right about what we are seeing so we have doubt and that is when the frustration comes into play. I am here to say that no we can't all be models or size 6's or whatever the fad is for today. That is not a true picture for all of us. But there is a picture, a healthy and happy picture that we all have inside. That is what we are working for. Have you seen it yet? Are you focused on achieving that picture? I have a picture in me that I feel is obtainable and I have a deadline for that to happen. I am not going to paint the full picture yet but I will say that the deadline for me is by January 8, 2009.

Come on everyone. What is your picture?:confused3

Hey everyone, it's just ME!!! :cheer2: I have decided that maybe for this week i need to check in everyday so that I feel more committed to what I set out to do this week. I hope nobody minds....:goodvibes

Bryan I just loved what you said! Karate Kid is one of my favorite movies, and I just love that line. Thanks for reminding us what this group is all about! :thumbsup2 I tend to forget sometimes if I am not doing my plan exactly like someone else that it is OK, because it is MY plan. The part that is important is what we see inside. :woohoo: And of course to be a support to someone else.

So here is MY picture...

A happy and healthy woman with a wonderful husband. We enjoy going to Disney and enjoy all the WALKING that comes with it. I am not winded and stopping every 4 minutes to breathe. I run after my future children at the park and have fun rolling with them in the grass. I make good healthy decisions and encourage all around me to do the same. I do not depend on an ECV to do my walking, but my own two feet to carry me where I want to go. Who am I? I am Evita_W....and I feel and am FABULOUS! :flower3:

So, my goal this week is to continue my walking the block as many times I can. It may be only a couple hundred feet, but at my present is all I can do. To push myself I have to try to jog at least one length of block. Total workout time: 20-30 min.

Happy to report---TONIGHT I DID IT!! :cool1: Yes, I walked 2 full up and back blocks of good walking and 2 half and back "jogging" blocks. I also tried some marching in place and half jumping jacks to keep heart rate up. :yay: I went for 30 min. It was hard, but it felt GREAT! Now, to keep it up for tomorrow.

Ok, my AWSOME friends, keep up all the great work! I KNOW WE CAN DO IT! Thanks for all the GREAT motivation!:grouphug:

You guys rock!!! I've not had the time to visit this thread as often as I'd like, but I'm glad I came today! You're all so motitvated and encouraging of one another. Congratulations!!!!!!! I wish I had a big race to train for, but it's not in the cards for this year. I'm still running 5km, 3 times a week so that's something! I would like to run a 10km in September, so maybe I'll train for that.

I'm off to Disney in less than a month now and I haven't met my 10lb weightloss goal yet. Argh! Too many summer parties and cheating. If I hadn't been exercising, I'm sure I would have gained weight! I've got close to 4 weeks left, so I'm determined to be better!

Thanks for the motivation!!! Have a great week guys!!!

EVA, I'm so proud of you!!! I knew you could & would do it!:cool1:

Maria

Bryan--I can't help it...I have lots of appreciation for people who add positive things to the lives of others. There's not enough of that in the world, but there sure is a lot of it here.

Eva :cheer2: 30 minutes of an increased heart rate!!! That's fantastic!!! BTW, I love the pictures in your signature.

Maria--have a great time in WDW. I'll have to live vicariously through those of you that are going, because we don't have a trip planned until 2010. Say hi to Mickey for me!

Update--I was alternating working out with the Wii Fit with my other workouts, and I'm trying to do them both daily now. I went and bought some incentive jeans that are 2 sizes smaller than I wear now. I've got them sitting on top of my dresser, and that's what I'm working toward. I'm not good at visualizing, so I need the real thing to work towards.

Keep up the great work everyone....have a glass of water on me today!
Jen

WOW--mid week already?? Sure goes fast huh? :goodvibes I hope everyone is having a GREAT week! Thanks Jen and Maria for your wonderful positive thoughts. I am glad you like my pictures Jen. That is just me and my DH. :lovestruc I do not if you will get this before you leave Maria, but have fun at WDW. :cool1: I am getting excited to go in DECEMBER!!

So, here is my update....

TUES and WED workout has been great!! Each night I walked two full blocks up and back. I also marched or jogged two half blocks. And I also did many in place exercises to keep the heart rate up. I was worried that I would not last 30 whole minutes. BUT, I DID!!! :yay: :yay: It feels really great to get out and do it. I just use my picture and YOU GUYS to motivate me!

Hope you all are doing well. I know we can do it! Do not give up, the week is almost done. :cheer2: :cheer2: Thank you all for helping me stay motivated. Thank you BRYAN for being a GREAT LEADER!! You are the BEST! :grouphug:

Eva You give me a lot more credit than I deserve. I may make challenges or suggestions but you are the one that is putting in the time and training. As a trainer, it is my job to motivate you to be the best you that you can be. Sometimes that is easy. Sometimes it's not. (I can't get my Dad to do anything that involves activity.) So just keep doing what you are doing. It sounds like you are on the right track to achieving your goals.

CJK Christa, where have you been? Always lurking but never talking. Come on now. You are a vital part to our family. You are our Sister from across the border.:rotfl2: So your thinking about a 10k in September? Can I challenge you to something a little sooner? On August 31st, Nike is sponsoring The Human Race 10k. You can do it anywhere in the World. All you have to do is to go to Nike.com and register for it, do the race and then you can post your time afterwards online. I have registered for it so we could actually do it together, if you would like? Let me know and we can compare times but I have to tell you, I do a lot more walking than running. (I'm not in that good of shape.)

My update isn't going as well this week. I started off strong and then got interrupted by work when I had to work a double the other night. But, it's all good. The reason why is now I have a 3 day weekend and I am going to train like an animal. I could very possibly (and now that I am putting it in writing, I will have to do it) have 75-100 miles worth of cardio over the weekend and 10-12 hours worth of total time invested. Somebody call a doctor for this nut!! Something tells me, I might need one but it's all fun so let's go do it!!

Liz Did you get Jo's room finished? Just checking in....

Bryan

Geez Bubba! You're an exercise MACHINE!!!! How's it going so far? No exercise for me today, but probably tomorrow dh and I will go for a walk. I'd love to take you up on your 10km challenge, but I'll be in WDW then (Aug.24-Sept.7). Dh has a big softball tournament as soon as we get back, so I'm thinking of doing my 10km during the tournament. That will motivate me not to overindulge in WDW!!! Thanks for the little nudge that I need! Keep up the great work........but don't overdo it!!! ;)

Way to go Eva!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're on a roll girl! Now YOU are motivating US!

Jen - I soooo want to buy a wii now! I like the thought of adding more variety to my routine and it sounds like you're having such fun with it!

Well, I've had a social get together revolving around dinner 6 of the last 7 days (today and tomorrow are no exception either)! Argh! The good news is that I'm really watching my portions so that I'm even noticing my clothes being a little looser this week. I've exercised a lot this week so I guess that's making the difference. I've got 3 weeks until my trip so I really want to hit it and lose an inch or two around the waistline to make my Disney clothes fit better. If only summer parties didn't have to revolve around FOOD!!!!!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!! :goodvibes

How's it going? I think I am killing myself......... Not really!:rotfl2: Yesterday, I was able to put in a total of 4 hours at the gym and mowing my yard. (I just bought a new push lawnmower.:yay: ) I did 30 miles on the bike. Today, I did 25 miles on the bike, worked out my shoulders and I am getting ready to go back outside to continue to work on my yard for at least another hour or so. So I already have 55 miles in the last 2 days, closing in on 7 hours worth of time and I still have a 1.5 days left.

The bad news is there is something that has happened to my wrist. I can barely lift anything with that hand right now and it not hurt. I am going to ice it and even massage it some to see if that will help. I have thought about going to bed with a loritab to see if I will awake pain free or just groggy. But I haven't made up my mind yet. I am planning on another 20 miles on the bike tomorrow and then between 5-10 miles walking around the track to try out my new shoes. I have 2 races coming up this month that I have to get ready for.

Jen, Maria and Eva You are all doing such a wonderful job and putting in all of the effort to make your goals come to reality. That is what inspires me. Seeing others getting out of their "comfort" zone so they may be healthier and happier. You ladies are awesome!!!!

Beginning of a new week starts tomorrow! Let's make sure that we do what we can to try to take that extra step or do that extra rep or crunch to make sure that we get the results that we are shooting for! Have a GREAT day everyone!!!

Bryan:woohoo:  :cheer2:

Bryan...I'm going to be traveling over 75 miles this weekend as well....in my car! I can't imagine doing that many miles in a weekend any other way! Take care of that wrist and make sure you stay hydrated with all of that mowing.

Christa...My name is Jen and I'm a Wii Fit addict. There are moments when I think I need serious help! My kids think it's funny because I make them clear the room when I do my body test where it shows my BMI and weight....DS6 is old enough to know what those numbers mean, and I really don't need him sharing my weight with the world! I'm so glad your clothes are getting looser--I can completely relate to social events revolving around food; you must be doing a great job with portion control!

Eva...I'm so proud of you! I know you were really worried about getting your exercise in without access to the pool, but you have been doing a really good job of not only getting in your walking, but pushing yourself! That's fantastic.

Update: The scales finally moved...and in the right direction. I was also able to actually zip a pair of pants I haven't worn since before I got pregnant with DD3 (I refused to get rid of them because they were favorites and I WAS going to fit into them again). I still can't wear them in public, but they zipped!! I'm off to spend two days with some friends, and I'm hoping they have a great workout facility at the hotel so I can get my cardio in tomorrow morning! Have a great start to the new week.

Jen

Even though some will look at me like I am a complete nut, I feel like I have failed you guys this weekend. The reason why is because I all I was able to do was the minimum of what my goal was for this weekend. I was able to complete 75 miles and 8.5 hours. I was going to go for a 5 mile walk this afternoon when the temperature started going down some but we started to get a lot of thunder and some lightening so I was trying to wait out the storm. Problem was that the storm never came so I blew my chance. I am hoping to be able to make it up tomorrow when I get off of work.I am hoping by Friday to be really close to 200 miles for the week. I know. I have lost my mind.

As far as my hand and wrist goes, it is still giving me a lot of trouble so I am debating about going to the Chiro tomorrow to see if he can do anything about it. I didn't do the loritab yesterday but I did ice it and that hasn't helped. I will continue to let you know updates on what is going on with that.

Brand new week everyone! Let's make it great!!!!

Bryan

Ok. I know I was the last one to do a post but I had to share that even thought it took me an extra day, I have broken the 100 mile barrier this week already.

Also, I went to my Chiro and found out that I have a case of tendonitis in my left wrist. That's what has been causing my pain. He said to ice it, wrap it and take advil. Oh yeah! One more thing. He said to lay off the weights for a week or two.:scared1:  I guess I will be doing a lot of cardio for the next week or so, huh?

How is everyone else doing?????

Bryan

Hi Everyone!

Oh Bryan, I hope your wrist feels better real soon! I know that is no fun having an injury. Good thoughts and pixie dust sent your way. :wizard:

It sounds other than that things are going good. Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I wish I was Maria right now, she is in WDW. :yay: I do not know when she is expected back. My time at WDW will be here soon, and I am SOOOOOOO getting excited!

So, here I am on Monday, ready to pick up and RUN! (Ok, maybe not RUN...but at least keep up my activity) :goodvibes It feels good to push myself at least a little bit, and hopefully I can continue to push myself this week. I just keep looking at my picture that I wrote and see myself getting there someday. :woohoo:

Have a wonderful week party people!! Let's do it! I know we can! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Keep it up! :grouphug:

I hope everyone had a great week.

Bryan--I hope you're taking care of that wrist. Congrats on the 75 miles...I knew you could do it. I'm sure you're getting lots of cardio in with your weight routine interrupted by injury.

Eva--you sounded so upbeat in your last post! You have been doing a fantastic job of pushing yourself to do a little more every day. That's a big inspiration to me, because I tend to get into a rut of just doing the same thing and thinking it's good enough.

Update--I had a good week. The scales moved in the right direction, and I ate well. I got in my cardio every day, and I added a bit of strength training. I'm going on vacation next week. My husband has been traveling for work for most of the summer, and the kids and I are going to stay with him in Indiana next week. I'm going to have to be diligent about my workouts because I know with eating out more I'll let myself splurge some, and I do not want to see the numbers on the scale move back up :scared1: .

Have a wonderful week next week everyone, and I can't wait to check in when I get back and see how everyone is doing.

Jen
