Starting Weight: 197 lbs (monday Jan 16th)
Weight Today: 174 lbs
This weeks loss: 2 lbs
Total Loss: 23 lbs
Goal: 135 lbs
Plan: Stick with my 1190 calories and not go to far under! Try and increase the cardio. I am up to 15 minutes on the eliptical but I want to increase it to 30.

I know I should be happy that I have lost 2 pounds but I am very frustrated, that my weight loss has slowed down so much. I was losing 5 pounds at first and now I am happy to get 1 or 2 pounds a week. It is depressing. And I am finding myself slipping into those old thoughts like "is this really worth it". When I am rationial I know it is, but it is those times when I am down that it is hard to focus on the long term and not what is goining on day to day.

Thekidsmom,
I know how frustrating can be but remember that the body get use to the new way of eating and it looks like is slowing down. IT IS NORMAL and doesn't mean that is not working. Remember that the healty and recomended pounds are 1.5 to 2 per week. SO, YOU ARE DOING FINE!!! :cool1: :thumbsup2
Just keep doing your diet and exercise and triy to get to that 30 minutes in the eliptical. :thumbsup2 ....Is it worth it? TOTALLY, especially when you are buying new cloths and they are 4 number less than the last ones that you bought :rotfl: . I started my diet on Sept 05 (178.2 pounds). Now I'm just 3 pounds away...and I can't wait for my well deserved....SHOPPING SPREE! :cheer2:

Congrats.....and GOOD LUCK...I know you can do it! :cheer2:

Hey guys and gals! It has been a while since I have heard from anyone. I was just wondering how eveyone is doing with their individual goals. I know we all get in a lull or get aggravated thinking that we aren't doing enough or loosing enough, but the main thing is not to give up. I have found something that works very well for me is I will try to make sure that I am at the gym doing cardio while the show, "The Biggest Loser" is on. If that doesn't get you motivated to keep on riding, walking, or even running, I don't know what will. Stay motivated everyone and remember that you are not alone in your goals and efforts for better health.

Keep pushing on everyone! :thumbsup2 :sunny: :cool1: :goodvibes :goodvibes

I can understand about loving to eat. I have been eating and working out for so long to try to put on muscle, that it is going to be very hard for me as well to cut back on the calories and the food. You are right, losing that much weight is a lot to do and would take an extreme amount of focus and dedication. I am not saying that you can't do it. On the contrary, I am going to say that you need to do it in segments. Set yourself a goal. Tell your self you are going to stay away from the sweets for a week or from fried foods or even just bread. Dieting is more of a state of mind! 6 years ago, I lost 52 pounds in less than 6 months but I did it in a very unhealthy way and I ended up having no strength and no energy. I had a 32.5" waist and I felt like I was still fat. It was unhealthy for me and my family. Now, I have a 34.5" waist and I am around 200 pounds but I have put on a lot of muscle in the last few years. I am almost back to my heaviest weight ever but I am much heathier than I have ever been. So from experience, I can tell you to make small changes at first and it will give you big rewards. Good luck and let me know if I can help in any way.

To BUBBA73......OT but I just had to post this picture. Our men all have the same shirts...too cute!!! :thumbsup2

I have been dieting since the end of January and working out 5-7 times per week since. I've lost 12lbs to date, am trying to lose a 33 more by 5/28/06. I am working very hard and think this is attainable in a healthy manner. Count me in!!!

I am going on a Disney Cruise in August for my bday. I would definately like to lose weight before then.

I am not sure how much is feesible for me. My metabolism is very slow.

22 weeks should be about 40, but I doubt I can lose that much.

My plan is in my journal

Kathy's journal

Well, here's a quick update on my progress!

I think that having my two insane "puppies" is really paying off! LOL! I take them for a walk every day around the field next to our house, except Sunday. Well, they really enjoy it, and I get a little of that much needed exercise that will shed those pounds that I want to!

Anyway, I stepped on the scale I think Wednesday, and much to my delight, I've lost 10 pounds already! WOO HOO! Only another 60-65 to go!

Until next time,
John

I originally lost 23 pounds (with more to go) -- Then Christmas, then WDW and gained and lost and gained the same 3 pounds back. (I realize I said that BEFORE - broken record!!)

Trying to get back into healthy eating and walking is sooooo hard -- but I will tell you cause there was an e-mail about additions to this thread -- I was encouraged to be good and walked Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. At least I'm not gaining anymore! Now just gotta start losing again!

EVERYBODY KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! I'm going to try even harder to be good!

Gotta read all the entries I missed! **update - I was reading all the entries again and whoo hoo - in reading my own earlier entry, I realize I had gained 5 pounds when I got back from WDW and I must have lost at least a couple since I was back at 17 pound lost so .... now I am really encouraged **

Do any of you deal with AFTER WORK munchies - I am STARVING all the while I am trying to cook something healthy for dinner - makes me want to EAT bad stuff (nothing good LEFT in the house so I want to eat BREAD and Peanut Butter!). What are your hints for that????

I watched this show a week or so ago and Bob Greene said something I will never forget and has helped me ENORMOUSLY ever since.

He said, that if you diet and work out and "be good" all day your body goes into "fat burning mode". As the night wears on, your body is getting ready to use energy for the time you are asleep. The hunger you feel late at night is telling you that your body is going to go to stored fat for energy.

If you feed yourself after 7:00pm, you will negate everything you've done during the day to get your body to burn fat! Made perfect sense to me. So now, every time I feel hungry late (never eat past 7:00pm either BTW) I smile knowing that my body is going to use stored fat for energy.....I then "magically" don't want to eat.

Hope this helps someone else!!
BTW I am just going from memory on what he said, nothing is verbatim.

thelionqueen - that was a great suggestion. I know in my own diet I have a problem with eating to late because I usually don't get home from the gym until closer to 8 pm and I know I need to refuel some after working out and doing cardio. I try to make my last meal almost pure protein. A lot of the time, I may scramble up some eggs and put some lunch meat in it just to add a little more protein. But remember, I am trying to keep as much muscle as I can so I am trying to average about 225 grams of protein in my diet everyday. If there was really anyway that I could workout earlier, I would do without that 8:30 meal at night. I guess I am just going to have to spend more time doing more cardio.

All of you are doing fantastic. I am excited everytime I read this thread. There are so many of us that are trying to do everything that we can for better health and that is truly a wonderful blessing and motivation for me. Keep up the hard work and you will succeed in meeting your goals.

Have a great day everyone.

Hm, this is interesting. This may be a large part of my problem. But we are keeping very weird hours lately. The kids sports go so late that it is often 9:00 p.m or later when we eat dinner (I know, that's terrible) but we are also up until 1:00 or even sometimes 2:00 a.m. So...not eating anything after 7:00 may be hard. Is there some way to figure out how many hours to not eat before going to bed, rather than a certain time? Like, "don't eat 3 hours before bed" or something like that? I think the late night munchies are a definite problem for me, and something I need to watch. I'd love to hear what others do to combat this. On a good note...I've been to the health club every day this week. I'm so glad we signed up. I am "loving" the group classes!

Hello all! did ALOT of walking today as it was a GORGEOUS day in the chicago land area! It's hard to keep to, but i'm trying, i'm dieting by portion control...
Good luck to everyone!

The "after 8PM" rule is a killer for me. I try not to snack, but almost always wind up eating something after 8. It's so weird... I am hardly ever powerfully hungry during the day, but at night I almost pass out sometimes I am so hungry. The end result is that I have not lost nearly as much weight as I should have by now. Glad I clicked on this thread today... I promise to be more resolved.

ok, well its been awhile since I posted anything on this thread. This past week has been rough because my hubby is home for about a week and a half which means I actually have to cook dinner for the family. ugh.
But I've been putting the kids in the stroller and going for long walks every other day. Plus I've been counting calories in my food journal....haven't gone over 1800 or under 1500 which is good for me.
Stepped on the scale yesterday morning and i've lost around 10 lbs this week. Of course they say the first week is usually water weight anyway and not to mention I KNOW mine was water retention. But at least I have another month to lose some real pounds.
I've decided to go on my :rolleyes2 tuna diet :rolleyes2 on monday. Hopefully I'll be able to stick to it and not cheat this time around. I have about 4 weeks before I start craving chocolate again anyway. It should be pretty easy to stick to it this time (if I can choke down the tuna and carrots) since my hubby wont be around to disencourage me!
Well, keep up the good work everyone.

I'm a little late, but would love to join this thread. I'm looking to lose another 25 pounds in the next 18 weeks before my trip to WDW.

Well, today is going to be a big day for me. If I can stay on my diet plan today, I know the rest of the time will be a piece of cake. There is a bit of irony in that last sentence because today is actually my birthday. I am lucky in the sense that I can't really go anywhere today because they are doing road work right ourside of the house and the road is closed until tomorrow. I pray that we don't have a fire or medical emergency.

Anyway, just keep what you are doing. Everyone is doing great. :grouphug: The fact that we are trying makes us all winners :thumbsup2 :sunny: .

Hope you have a GREAAAT day! :woohoo:

I need some help! I am Sicilian and the Sopranos is on tonight. I have resisted pasta (VERY hard for me) and bread (even harder) for a long time. I was watching some episodes last night and it took everything I had not to eat the sausage rolls mom made (SOOOO GOOD).

Tonight, I feel as if I may waiver. I have not cheated for 2 weeks, but feel like I am deserving of antipasto, garlic bread and sausage rolls just for this special event.

Maybe I'll have a tiny bit before 7:00 and that will tide me over. Help me, I need some encouragement.

I am a little nervous about weighing in tomorrow. TOM and I had both chips and popcorn yesterday. I am doing OK today. I have really been focused with my exercise.

Happy Birthday bubba!

Well, I bought The Biggest Loser book today. It has some really great stuff in there. Just thought I'd share a couple of pointers.

1) To figure the amount of calories you need to consume no more than, to lose weight....multiply your body weight x7

2)One pound of fat = 3500 calories. Which means...you have to burn that many calories to lose a pound....argh...But don't forget to figure your basil metabolism (#1) in that also. Just subtract that from the 3500 to see how much exercise you have to do to lose a pound a day. Good thing its not healthy to lose that much every week, I would be burnt out in a day. :rotfl:

3)As you lose weight, you need to reconfigure the calories (#1) so that you don't plateau or gain wieght. THe more weight you lose the less calories you eat because you body doesn't need as much energy to burn calories.

Ok, Good luck everyone! I start my diet tomorrow, yippee. Hope this helps some people. I know the book gave me a whole new insight!

Thanks for the tip about not eating after 7:00pm "thelionqueen". I am always so hungry at night and I knew it was not good to eat late but the way you put it, it really makes you like that hungry feeling! LOL
I am sooo agrevated that my weight loss has slowed down sooo much. It seems like I am fighting for every pound! I started taking 1 A Day Weight Smart vitamins, I am hoping this helps jump start my metabolism.

I started Weight Watchers 6 weeks ago and I have lost over 18 pounds already. I am not dieting specifically for my upcoming trip to WDW, but I am excited to be going after/while losing my excess weight. I hope to lose a lot more! (before and after my trip in two weeks)

Just wanted to point out that "32" is certainly attainable in a healthy way by losing 2 pounds a week for 16 weeks. Your advice to lose "15" is also just as attainable and safe while only losing 1 pound a week. I think there is a good range of what is a healthy way or amount to lose. For the last 6 weeks I have lost more than 2 pounds a week, and have done it in a very healthy and sustainable way. I think it just depends on your body, how much fat you have to lose, etc. I mean, if you only have 15 to lose, it's actually much harder to lose those 15 pounds, than losing 15 if you are actually say, 60 pounds overweight. JMHO.

Good luck everyone!
I think it varies by person.I have been doing WW since the first of Feb and only lost 4.8 lbs so far. It is depressing to see it come off so slowly. I am doing Flex. Are you doing Core by any chance? They said there was no difference when I signed up but the core people do seem to lose a lot faster more like 2-3 lb week rather than one. :confused3
