Dieting for Disney

Thank you lovingcinderella for the nice sentiment. For the most part, yesterday was just another day. Almost didn't even realize that it was my birthday. The bad news of that was I made it over to my parents house where they gave me my present. They gave me $50 to take on my upcoming trip and last night when I went to the grocery store..... yep, you guessed it. The money fell out of my pocket and I lost it. :guilty: You know though, I guess you can't really miss something if you really never had it.

I have been reading on this thread just about everyday and I am noticing a trend. This is a very common trend when it comes to weight loss or really anything else that society puts in front of themselves as a goal. Everyone is disappointed because they figure their weight would come off "faster". We all go through that. It is very common. But there are several factors to look at before you condemn your regime.

1) Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. So if you are working out with weights at all, don't go by the scale totally, go by the way your pants and shirts are fitting you. That is the true tell.

2) Check what you are doing. After a while it will be time to up the intensity level in anything that you do. If you stay at the same level throughout the whole program, your body gets use to it and there won't be any changes.

3) Make sure you are striving to be healthy, not just thin. Are you taking a good multi-vitamin everyday? Are you staying away from the detrimental foods such as fried foods, sweets and breads? Are you eating within 3 hours of going to bed? Are you trying to do something on a regular basis to increase your heart rate so you can be heart healthy?

Use that as a checklist and compare. See if that helps.
We are all in this together :grouphug: :cloud9: . I know personally there is NO one I would rather spend time with than someone who trys to take care of themselves :teeth: .

Everyone have a great day. It is the beginning of a new week so lets make it the best one yet and take charge of our lives. :cheer2:

Bubba, so sorry to hear about your birthday present loss! Happy late birthday :clown:
I made it through yesterday and the weekend just fine, am ready to get back to the gym after 2 days off. I haven't taken 2 days off in a row for nearly 2 months and I needed it.

I'm glad you mentioned about upping the intensity of your workouts it is important. Another important item my trainer told me is that you have to do different things, especially when it comes to cardio. I have been doing the ARC trainer for the most part and adding in a bike here and there. I am going to start a serious treamill regimine starting today. I also do lap swim every Mon. & Weds (while son is in swimmng class right next to me) and am hoping this will push me over.

I am an avid "scaler" and it is hard for me not to get on everyday, but I know I shouldn't. The weight has come off sooooo slow and it is very hard, but I'm gonna stick to it.

Thanks for all the inspiration and have a great week everyone!!! :yay:

Well I increased my cardio I am up to 25 minutes on the eliptical, Hurray for me!!!

Well I had my weekly weight in today...

I started taking a multivitamin and it seems to be helping. I am taking One A Day Weightsmart. This week I lost 3 pounds and so far I have lost 26 lbs. Hurray! Also, I am finally up to 30 minutes on the eliptical (this morning), it is really hard but I am just trying to push myself through it. I will do it again tonight while watching the biggest loser. I think the biggest help this week was that person telling me to look at the hunger pangs at night as my body going into fat buring mode. Now instead of hating it because I was so hungry, I welcome the feeling knowing that I am losing weight!

Tammy: What do you have the ellipitical SET AT? If it becomes a struggle then drop your resistance down. I always start out at RANDOM setting on a level 3, go to a level 5 and if things get TOUGH but I just want to finish, I simply drop the setting down to MANUAL and the level down to 1. I just have some tough days getting to 30 minutes BUT I figure I need this, I am hanging in there and as vs getting off the machine (before my 30 mins is up) I will go at an easier pace until I am done. :)
I also write all my workouts down. Something to look at from time to time when I am having a bad day. So you are going back on the elliptical tonight, that is awesome. :)
YES, I love what that one Poster said also about the "hunger pains"!! Those can be so BRUTAL.
I have to go to CVS later today....to stay away from all that EASTER CANDY is painful. :furious:
I ordered on QVC those vitamins by Dr. Taub!!! I seriously felt I needed a multivitamin!!
Have a good day!!! :wave2:

I use the heartrate setting on my eliptical. It keeps it at the right resistance to keep my heart rate where it should be. It usually starts out around 3 then as the minutes go by I am usually down to 1 when I am finished.

thekidsmom - The fact that you have worked yourself up to 30 minutes is phenominal. My DW can't even handle the elliptical. Personally, that and the ARC Trainer are my two favorite styles of cardio. I usually do about 45 minutes per session, if time allows. Also, I wanted to congratulate you on your fantastic success on your weight loss. Once you consider how much weight 26 pounds is, I know you will be amazed. When I had lost all my weight 6 years ago, I did this just to show me what I had done. I had lost 52 pounds so to get an idea of how much weight I had been carrying around compared to that moment, I grabbed a 45 pound plate at the gym and just started sitting down on a bench and then standing back up. I couldn't believe the difference. I was proud of myself of where I was but I was disgusted about where I had been. Just to know that I had let myself go that far. I guess that's why I love going to the gym so much now because I know I will not go back to that point ever again.

I love reading how some of you are starting to take your vitamins. You know, it's funny. As a young kid, I would watch wrestling and I remember Hulk Hogan say to Say Your Prayers and Take Your Vitamins if you wanted to get into the same shape he was in. Well, of course now we all know that he did take steroids as well but the rest of it is still valid more than 20 years later. We all need to take our vitamins.

I know I keep sounding like a broken record when I say this but all of you are amazing. This thread keeps me motivated for my own workouts and cardio sessions. Everytime I feel like I just don't want to go to the gym, I think about all of you and your dedication and that pushes me to do more. So now for my report. I have went from 211 pounds down to an even 200. I have went from a 35" waist to a 34". I am starting to see more definition in my shoulders, arms and chest. I still want to get between 190 or 195 and see more of my abs. If I can do that and still keep most of my muscle, I will be delighted.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and stay motivated! :sunny: :sunny: :cool1: :grouphug:

Well, just thought I'd share my workout today. I did 35 mins. on Treadmill (2 miles) and did 45 mins on ARC trainer. I did all my normal weights (focusing on arms and upper body) and it felt great!!

I can really tell in my face and neck (especially back of neck, that annoying fat hump at the base of neck) and I didn't weigh myself!!! YAHOO!!

I am not going to weigh myself for at least 2 weeks, that is my current goal. I cannot wait to walk down main st. @ MK and feel like a million bucks...hopefully look like a million too.

Thanks for all the support, you guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!

thelionqueen - You are really taking charge and running with it. Just by reading about what you are doing makes me get motivated to go do some more. (I just wish the gym wasn't closed but I am still going to do some crunches.) With the attitude and determination that you are showing, I have NO doubt that you will achieve your goals. You are awesome! I just hope that I can keep up with your pace.

Everybody, keep up the great work.

Note: I know this is into the game some but if anyone is interested we could do the same type thing that they have been doing on the biggest loser. For anyone that is interested, take a before picture (posting it is totally up to you) and then right before you go on your trip, take an after shot. That right there can be a huge motivation. I have a picture of myself on the frig. for any of those nights that I wake up with a craving or a hunger pain. I see that and I forget about eating and just get some water and go back to bed. Or, it can possibly help you choose grilled or baked foods instead of fried. Just a thought if anyone is interested.

Have a great day everyone!

Bubba, thanks for keeping us all motivated, you sound very dedicated...and sweet! :thumbsup2

I think I would be willing to do the picture thing, but I've already lost 12 lbs and I think I might be disappointed at the after picture. Also, I'm not very photogenic, but maybe that will be even more inspiration. If anyone else is up for it, count me in.

Yesterday I cut up veggies in little snack baggies and put them in the fridge. One of the things I have not been doing is eating properly (meaning eating a lot). I would skip breakfast and sometimes lunch too and just eat dinner...big no no.

My trainer told me that it is almost as imperative as working out. I need to eat something (preferable veggies or fruit) iver 90 minutes! I thought she was out of her mind but decided to do it. I eat a little veggie bag every hour and a half and I can tell my metabolism is revved up.

Will let you know how it works. She guaranteed to me that the reason I was losing so slow was not the type of food (been really good) but the amount of food during the day...here's hoping she's right. Will let you know. Have a great Thursday!

Bubba that is what got me motivated to lose the weight. Ya know, it didn't really hit me how fat I was until I saw the pictures of us in Disney last year. I was in shock at how big I was. So when I made the reservations for this years trip, I was determined to not come home with pictures like that again. If I can figure out how to post them I will.

 Woohoo I lost 4 pounds this week. I was very pleased with that. I am amazed at how my walking regimen has picked up. When I started I would do 1.5 miles and feel like I had certainly had enough. Now I am doing either 3 or 4.5 miles 5-6 days a week. I'm ready to keep rolling!

hi there! doing alright with the diet so far, just not seeing the results i want..but i can't give up...good luck everyone and i think i am going to follow in LovingCinderellas footsteps and head to the book store to see what can give me tangible support :)

Hello Everyone...Happy St. Patrick's Day!!! I have WONDERFUL news I want to share with everyone!!

I lost 5lbs! I am so excited!! I've been stuck with absolutely no weight loss (even 1lb gain) for over 2 weeks and finally, TODAY I did it!

I changed my eating habits and now religiously eat my veggies & fruit every 90 minutes. I don't eat after 6:00pm and am drinking more water. Maybe this is it. Maybe everyone is right, this was the one thing I was not doing, now that I started doing it this week, boom, I lost 5lbs.

Anyway, I'm so happy I just wanted to share. Everyone have a great weekend!! party: :dancer: :drinking1

Hey Gang! :cool1: :cool1:   :cheer2: :cheer2:

I hope everyone has had a great week. My week started a little rough but it ended great. Of course, like I mentioned at the beginning of the week, Sunday was my birthday and I had that problem with loosing one of my presents. That's ok though. My only hope is that whoever found the money needed it more than myself. With that bit of hope, I can at least feel like my misfortune was someone elses gain.

Also, this week I had my Annual Review at work and it went very well. In a nutshell, I got a $1500 a year raise. For what I do and my position, my Boss told me that he had never seen anyone get that much of a raise at one time. (Please remember that I just run a small print shop.)

Then, tonight I went back to the gym and weighed myself. When I started this thread, my actual weight was 211 pounds. I am now under the 200 pound mark. When I weighed myself, I was at 196. I am just about at the goal weight that I had set for myself but I haven't gotten all the results that I was hoping for so I am changing my original goal. I am going to try to get down to 185 now. I believe at that point I should have the definition that I am looking for.

I would also like to add that I am so excited for all of you. Thelionqueen, you are doing great. Weight loss does come in cycles and when you least expect it, you will have a big drop. Again, great job and keep up the good work.

Disneymommymichelle - Don't give up. Your determination will see you past the hard times. I wasn't seeing any results for a long while and then, poof. I have lost almost 10 pounds in less than 2 weeks. :woohoo: Keep at it. Your goals will be acheived. :cheer2: :grouphug:

Zippa D Doodah - Fantastic! Don't think that I forgot about you. Your 4 pounds is huge. That's what it takes. 4 pounds here. 3 pounds there. The weight comes off and we all feel better, have more energy, and it also increases our self-esteem. You are doing great. Keep the drive alive!! :Pinkbounc :woohoo: :yay:

congrats everybody on losing weight. I stepped on the scale this morning and have only lost a pound. But its better than nothing and at least I lost it instead of gaining it,so I'm happy...
Read this in a fitness mag yesterday and thought I'd share. My hubby and I constantly argue about drinking gatorade and stuff. He says I should drink gatorade when I work out instead of water to replace my electrolyes I lose during sweating. Ha, seems I was right after all.

"The U.S. Dept of Agriculture and World Heath Org recommend that people trying to lose weight should exercise 60-90 mins per day. Most people are aware of the Importance of fluid replacement during prolonged exercise and might naturally bring along a sports drink like gatorade during a walk or bike ride. That could be a mistake...researchers found that consuming sugar drinks during exercise prevented fat use by increasing blood insulin and sugar levels and lowering blood free fatty acids. Sugar ingestion during a 2 hr bout of moderate-intensity exercise decreased the activity of genes involved in fat metabolism and decreased uncoupling protein 3 (UPC-3). UPC-3 is important for increased caloric consumption during recovery from exercise. So consuming sports drinks during exercise may lesson the effects of exercise on weight loss."

I so do love winning an argument with that buff DH of mine. :rotfl: Now I know for sure I don't want to be drinking gatorade when working out even if it does taste better than water.

Hi, I'm Jen. I mainly lurk but I found this thread and decided I'd join in and be social. I'm 23 and have an almost 4 year old son. In high school I was a chunky girl. I am 5'1 and at my highest weight (beginning of senior year) I weighed 147 lbs. I started walking a whole lot, to friends' houses, to my boyfriend's house, etc, and lost 40 lbs in about 6 months. I was walking about 6 miles a day! I didn't really watch what I ate then, but I did stop eating late at night and naturally my portion sizes decreased.

When I went to college I didn't gain any weight, but in my second semester I started restricitng my calories a lot and exercising compulsively and got super skinny, and looked unhealthy. I decided to drop out of school to get the help that I needed at that point. When I got pregnant I was at my lowest weight ever.

Fast forward to now, and I'm not at an uhealthy weight, but I'm not very toned, despite working in a restaurant where I can walk up to 12,000 steps a shift on a busy night. I get plenty of exercise, but I am in close proximity to crap foods and I don't really get any exercise other than work. My body is not toned, except for my upper arms, and my face is chubby (the first place I notice any weight gain). I would like to lose about 5-8 pounds and tone up so that when we go to Disney in August I can keep up with walking and stuff and take my son swimming without being self conscious. I think that's the biggest challenge for me, especially due to my history of body issues. I've joined sparkpeople.com and so far it seems great! I also gave fried foods up for Lent and although I haven't noticed a weight loss due to that (during slow periods all of the servers tend to stand in the kitchen and eat the old fries), but I was having issues with heartburn and nausea and various other belly issues that have gone away. I think that even after Lent I'll stay away from fried stuff, since I just feel better now.
I can't post links but if you'd like to see me and my family, we have an album at webshots.com. My user name is pinksequin. I hope to get to know you all better!

First of all, congrats Jen. I knew some people with eating disorders that lived in denial and never got the help they needed. So proud of you for taking that step. And I too can tell if I gain weight or lose weight by my face. Well, technically my neck. As soon as I lose a pound I can see my jawline again..its great and I actually can out in public in a ponytell. :rotfl:
Well, here's my update this week:
Lost 1lb...4 inches all over. Not bad considering all I did was diet and got on my stationary bike for about 40 mins this week. But the granola bars I promised myself I'd only have one of for a snack...that didn't happen. Ended up eating like 3 or 4. Killed any weight I would have lost. So I'm giving the box away to a friend today.
This morning I've started the biggest loser circuit training. I'm back on my tuna diet and don't plan on going anywhere for the three days. That way I can't be tempted by fast food again...which again killed my diet last week.
Hope everybody did better than I did this week! Congrats and keep up the good work.

Hi, Everyone!

First, Jen...I'm so proud that you took the courage to seek help...It's great example for everyone in the same conditions that you. Shows that the important thing is not the problem, is what I can do to solve it. CONGRATS! :thumbsup2

Second, I want to share with you...this importat thing...I went shopping yesterday...My Reward-shopping Spree. I've lost almost 43lbs and I rewarded my self shopping new wardrobe...And guess what???

I"M a SIZE 4 or 5 in jeans and a SM in shirts :woohoo: I went from size 12 to size 5 in 6 months!!! I'm so happy. Espacially because I did it in a healthy way. I visisted a nutricionist and a dietist and they made me a meal plan using my everyday food. From now on this is my Lifestyle...:cool1:

WooHOO!!!:woohoo:

To everyone that are in thiis boat...KEEP IT COMMING! There going to be some hard days in which you'll not see the results of your efforts...Keep trying...it worth the patience and the sacrifice...belive me....I was there.

If any of you need a "coach" for those days....YOU CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON ME!!!!!!

HAVE A NICE DIETING!!! :goodvibes

silverangel - That is fantastic. Losing 40+ pounds is amazing. I know you have to feel great and not only for your accomplishment but also with the extra amount of energy you have. Getting down to a size 5 is phenominal. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

jenny - welcome to the group. We are here to help, assist and encourage anyway possible. I, too, have gone through somewhat of an eating disorder and I have worked in a restaurant in the past (Chick-fil-A for over 12 years) so I feel like you and I have some common bonds. We are all here striving to be healthier and happier and hopefully, somebody from this will be able to inspire and encourage you or someone else along the way. :woohoo: :grouphug: As proud of silverangel as I am, I can safely say not everyone on the site will be able to get down to a size 5. (I know it is out of the question for me :rotfl2: :lmao: . Hey, I am a guy remember!) the main thing is to get to a point where we are healthy and energetic and full of life.

I know I will go on record and say if anyone ever wants to pm me to take something "offline" because it may be something that you don't want to share with a big group, that is fine with me. I have often said that I don't know all of the answers with diet and exercise but whatever I don't know from my experience, I can find out the answer and then we both can grow.

I want to tell all of you that I really do think of everyone of you while I am at the gym. Everyone of you and your stories are giving me strength and focus during my own exercises and cardio sessions. I am making greater gains now than I ever have before. I was hoping to be able to be somewhat of an inspiration to someone and instead everyone of you have been my inspiration. Sincerely, I thank you for pushing me along. You are all wonderful people. :sunny:
