Dieting for Disney

Hey everyone! It has been a while since anyone has posted. I hope all of you are doing well. I know how hectic life can be (trust me!) and it is easy to let some things slide. I do want to tell twotoohappy that your total weight loss is amazing. I am glad you liked my little challenge. It really is an eye-opener.

I have been able to get to the gym more and more recently so I am happy. I would like to have more time to do more cardio to get ready for the beach but I will take what I can get.

I would like to hear from all of you to see how your week is going. I miss my family. Look forward to hearing from all of you.

Have a great day! :thumbsup2

WOW! I haven't written for awhile but I have been reading on all your stories and you all are amazing! :cool1: I have fallen off the wagon for a bit but I am now back on! I have a group of friends that decided we're going to have a weekly weigh-in for some local accountability. Hope this works! But I must say that even though I haven't been at things like I should have been, I have been able to keep the 8-10 pounds off all summer! :thumbsup2 FO rme, that is awesome! I have this dress shirt that I in March was tight enough that I had to wear a body suit under it have it look right. (Holy cow, Batman! DId I just write that! :confused3 ) But now, I swim in it! I am so excited.

Well, again, thank you all for your inspiration! I will do more to check-in especially on Wednesdays since our weigh-in will be Tuesdays.

Blessings,

Yep..been busy here too. Had DS1 b-day party to plan for and our trip is in 4 days..YIKES. So been running lots of errands this last week and planning. I was doing so good the 1st part of the month but after my cycle and ant 'bad choices' I made seems to make it hard for me to get back on track. I've lost 7 pounds so far this month which I'm happy with.

I did not get on the treadmill much this week. I had something happen that would not allow me to exercise :guilty: But I have been doing tons of crunches. I wore my crop pants that I had planned on taking to WDW at my son's party and was pulling them up every 15 minutes. That was not going to work! Image how bad it would be after getting strecthed out all day. They were an 18 and I went out and bought 2 pairs of size 14 :cool1: .

I totally caved last night. It seems like the closer I get to our trip the more I want to slip into 'vacation mode'. I got Wendy's last night  Bacon Cheeseburger..BIGGIE SIZE..w/ a regular COKE... :furious: kick self...kick self. Oh well. Hence the reason for the 500 crunches this morning.

Plus we're going to the State Fair on Friday and will eat everything fried...they even have Fried Coke this year!!

My goal is the next 2 days to be good so I won't feel as guilty treating myself on Friday...and then 2 days later at Artist Point..then the next day at Columbia Harbor House...then at Le Cellier...well you get the point :goodvibes

Be good everyone.

Hi All,

I have been in a rut lately and can't seem to lose more than this 6 pounds...UGH! :guilty: I guess it is my fault for now working harder and staying away from stuffing myself at dinner...

I did do the treadmill and the bike yesterday and am eating good today...just need to get some water in me...I don't know if this will help but I just got a good haircut after wearing a ponytail most of the summer and for some reason, I have more confidence when I have a nice hair style... :confused3

I need to really keep up with this thread and get motivated...I hope this post finds you all well...All the best to you!

Lauren

Hi! Nice to hear from everyone. I've been great. I've been able to get back to the gym, and I have a lot of fun with the classes. :goodvibes
Deb

Hey everyone! It is great to hear from some of you. Like I have said, I can understand how easy it is to get so busy that we may forget or not even have time to post our updates. If all we do is post, then when do we have time to actually do our exercise and daily grind at work or home?
DisFam95 - Don't let that "cheat meal" get you down. I got so hungry one day that I went to Wendy's as well and got the same hamburger as you and one of the crispy chicken sandwiches. I still was able to get to my goal weight before I went on my trip. I know you are getting close to your trip so just spend the next few days working as hard as you can. You may not actually loose any more weight but you will feel better about your efforts.

Blestmom - It is great to hear from you as well. It sounds like now that school has started back that you have been able to get back into a routine. That's great. Keep it up and I am sure you will achieve your goals.

FormrCastMmbr - You are experiencing one of the common issues whenever someone is on a diet. Knowing when to stop eating. There have been studies that say the average American eats 85% of whatever they put on their plate. What this means is we need to put less on our plates. Don't eat until you are full. This is what causes weight gain. Just eat until you are satisfied. At this point, separate yourself from the table and the food. Don't give in to the temptation of eating more and more just because it's there. This should help a lot.

Update - I was able to get into the gym yesterday. It was awesome. Right when I started my cardio, they were airing "The Biggest Loser" on the TV. The show is great for keeping up your motivation and to give ideas and tips. I was able to do a full hour's worth of cardio, even with my bad knee. I am down to about 2 weeks before my trip to the beach. It is looking like it is going to be too cool to actually be able to go to the beach but the place we are staying has an indoor heated swimming pool so I can try to look "good" for that. I guess that is why I love to hear from all of you as often as possible. You give me strength just like I hope I give it to you. I hope you all have a great day!! :cheer2: :woohoo:

Hello Gang!!!!

Yesterday, was my monthly "mantaince" nutricionist appointment...and guess what? another month keeping my weight!!!! :cool1: Actually, I loose 5 lbs :rotfl: I'm now 131. I was scared because I thought I loose too much. But the nutricionis tolde me that I'm still in my healthy weight but barely (My Healthy weight = 131-147lbs). I know that weight is going up a little as soon as I start my new weight training rutine this monday. But, one thing that I learned with this loosing-weight adventure was that the numbers are not that important, the important thing is that you feel good and that you are healthy!!!!

With september I'm celebrating my 5th month after reaching my goal...

See ya soon!

:cheer2: Congratulations SilverAngel on your accomplishment. Not only have you lost the weight but you have been able to maintain/or keep it off. The most common thing to happen is what is called the "Yo-Yo" Diet. This is where your weight fluctuates up and down and all the time. That is extreeemely unhealthy but it sounds like you have conquered that issue and won the battle. I wish all of us to have the same kind of success that you have had. Great job.

Since no one else has posted in a while, I will give an update on myself and also ask a question. Update - I was able to get to the gym for about an hour tonight. I did mostly arms, some abs and some cardio. It felt good. I did break a sweat and could tell my heart rate was up. But I had a scare... While I was attempting to do some hanging leg raises to hit my lower abs, I tweeked my knee. I was feeling good with the exercise and could tell that it was working but then I tried to set myself down. I was only a couple of inches off of the floor but it didn't take much. That little bit made my knee shoot with pain and I ha to stop for a minute to try to work it out. This is starting to scare me. I am afraid that I am going to have to go under the knife and have surgery. I know that knee surgery isn't the big deal that it used to be but honestly that doesn't make me feel better. (Lionqueen, if you are out there, I could use some of your words of encouragement. Don't get me wrong, I could use all of the encouragement that I can get right about now. It is just that Lionqueen has always had such an eloquent way with words. I miss her around here.) Now, for my question. Since everyone that is here in our family is a woman, I feel very comfortable asking this. If you were able to make one change to your husband or boyfriend, would you rather have him be somewhat muscular with some bodyfat or tight with a 6-pack of abs? I always get a different answer to this whenever I ask it so I am going to do a small poll. For the life of me, I can't figure out what it is you girls long for more. You guys are confusing me on a regular basis but I guess that is part of the idea. I am just trying to figure out what I need to accomplish to make myself more appealing to my DW. At the same time, I am hoping to be abe to inspire her to do more exercise herself for her own health.

Thanks for all of your help, encouragement and even prayers. All of you mean the world to me and I can never express that enough. :grouphug: :cool1: :grouphug:

I hope that I didn't offend anyone by my last post. My intentions were honorable. I am just trying to find out what most women prefer so I can look better for my wife. I hope that it wasn't taken in any other context.

CJK - I noticed that you just got back from your trip. Let me ask the stupid question, "How was it?" I know that you had a great time but I would love to hear a little about it.

I haven't been to the gym for the last few days but I was able to go to play 27 holes of golf this afternoon. I started to play really good towards the end of the day. Since I haven't been able to play at all this year, I can say I was pleasantly surprised by the way I was hitting the ball. On the other hand, it was quite hot today and I was sweating really hard while I was out there. I probably lost 2 pounds in water weight. I'll take it.

I hope everyone is having a great week. Stay active and please don't be strangers. I also use what you type in for my inspiration.

Hi All,

Things are going good for me...I am down 10 3s total and just got off the treadmill (40 min). I also officially joined WW yesterday. Going to the meeting is the only thing that works for me...I am feeling very positive! :)

Bubba, Sorry to hear that your knee is really bothering you and surgery may be in order...you are right though. The surgery is not as bad as it used to be...Glad also that you enjoyed your day of golf!!!

As far as your question about looks...my opinion is this, yes, I would love for my man to be in shape but I do not think that a 6 pack is necessary...I am attracted more to personality than body type...of course I take looks into consideration but remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder...My DFi and I both need to lose weight and I think we are at the point that we now help each other and realize that we need to support each other...not just for the looks, but the health reasons as well...

Hope this helps! Enjoy and good luck!

Hi Bubba!

Nice to hear from you, and glad that you have gotten to go to the gym. But I'm sorry to hear about your knee problems. Keep us posted, I'll be thinking of ya'.

Now...about your question. I've been thinking about it. First of all, yes...we females are confusing. I don't understand myself often! I'm not exactly sure what a 6-pack of abs is, but if given a choice between a muscular guy with some bodyfat or a trim, slim guy...I would probably choose the latter. My sister-in-law, however, goes nuts over a muscular guy in a muscle shirt. We joke about it...we have such opposite tastes. So I guess it proves your point that we are very confusing. BUT...

With that said, I agree with FormrCastMbr wholeheartedly. Given either body type, it's what's inside that counts. I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. A sweet smile and a gleam in the eye...ooh, that would do it for me, regardless of the body type.

Let me tell you a true story, for what it's worth...Last spring, my first day at the gym, I felt like a fool. I went to a step class, and really felt out of place amongst all the 'regulars.' A gentleman there noticed my nervousness, came over and introduced himself to me, then proceeded to get me my step, tell me what kinds of weights I needed, explained the class to me. I never forgot it, he was so sweet. Is he the best physically looking guy at the club? Nope, there are a lot of other muscular guys, trimmer guys. But darned if he isn't the most popular. All the ladies adore him because he is so kind, and friendly.

Anyway, take care of yourself, and feel free to ask questions like that. It's good to get the 'other sides' perspective!

So answering Bubba's question....
I love a 6 pack, it's my favorite part of a guy
but, if he's not a nice guy, it doesn't matter what he looks like.

My good news of the week.... my cholesterol went from 200 to 176

Keep up the good work everyone!

I want to thank all of you for chiming in and sharing your opinions. I have to be honest and say that I am still confused though. The one thing that I am sure about is that most of the female population is not a true fan of the steroid taking junkies that are more concerned about their looks than they are anything else. As far as women looking more for personality, that is something that I already knew. Several years ago, I read a book called, "He Said, She Said". That book is broken up into 2 sections. One for women to read and one for men. Basically, it says that women are looking for personality and communication. Men are looking for the physical contact. I guess that goes back to the sayings that girls are made from sugar and sweets and guys are just dogs. Although I don't think I can ever get the abs that twotoohappy posted, I would like to get as close to that as I can. But honestly, I would like to have a little more muscle.

Now, back to our original topic. How has everyone been doing sticking to their routines? There hasn't been a whole lot of shared information lately. I hope all is well. I know that intensity can waver for all of us at one point or another but we have to remember why we are going through this. We are doing this for health. For comfort. For energy. And some of us, for self-esteem. We can't let up or else we have already lost the war. That doesn't mean that we can't loosen up every once in a while but don't make those "loose" times all the time.

Hope you all have a great weekend!! Hope to hear from you all soon. :thumbsup2

Hi All,

I did great yesterday...my first day on WW!!! I did the treadmill for 40 minutes as well. I am off to a good start today...did the bike for 35 min, had a great breakfast and drinking a nice big glass of water.

All the best to you...have a great weekend!

Lauren

Hi, all! I've been reading through some of your discussion of the past several months and really appreciate the encouragement. I hope that this thread will continue. Between this one and what I saw on the thread for folks who want to get down to under 200 lbs, I sure am feeling motivated to get back on track. That thread has had a slow down as well. Maybe some of us can start a new thread that will work just as well and bring in some more newbies.

As far as getting healthier goes, so far so good, this morning. I've had mostly protein so far, which tends to be a good way for me to go, judging from past experience. Y'all can read my very long intro on the "under 200" thread, which shows more about who I am, mostly a very wordy, long post kind of gal. DH teases me about being unable to be concise.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=14898614#post14898614

I'd like to encourage y'all, if you're still getting emails for being subscribed to this thread. Don't let the onset of fall, slow you down or get you off track. I know that the shorter the days get throughout the fall, the harder time I am likely to have. Plus circumstances in a lot of people's lives tend to change in the fall and then it is easy to be so focused on school, or the kids school, or some work project that the time gets away from you and before you know it you are totally off-track and are really regretting the lost time. Take the time right now, (or schedule it in within the next 24 hours), to do something to motivate yourself. Just taking a few minutes to reflect on your past success can be good, but take it a step further and really convince yourself how good it is that you've done what you have done so far! I know that I am susceptible to thinking negatively because I still hate what I see in the mirror. But anything that you have been doing right is a success! If you stuck with working out 9 times out of 10 over the summer, you are a lot better off than you would have been had you not done that. If you gave up soda's and hot chocolate or coffe and drank tons of pure water but now have slid backwards on that goal, you are still a lot better off than you would be if you hadn't ever started that! And ofcourse, there are other steps you can take towards motivation. What ever has worked for you in the past can be worth revisiting. Or by re-reading some of the posts you might find new ideas that didn't grab your attention the first time around but are right for where you are at right now.

I'm hoping for a happy healthy Disney Vacation for myself and another one for each of you!

Just got back from Disney yesterday. We had a great time!!! I was worried before about falling off the wagon so to speak but I have to say travelling w/ 2 small kids and the heat I think limited my eating. I did not eat any ice cream (did not even miss it really). I had Diet Coke or water instead of Coke. I skipped my usual block of fudge at MGM Candy Cauldron. We had lots of fun and still ate everything else I wanted. I wore a pedometer and walked about 5 miles every day.

I can say I actually love my pictures compared to my last trip in Feb. I found myself not shying away from the camera and asking DH to take my picture!. My shorts were loose and felt great. I had been doing the treadmill almost daily. I have to say it helped at the parks too. Usualy by the 3rd day my feet and legs ache but I felt great this whole time. I never got tired the whole trip.

I weighed today and was just up 1 pound. I HAVE to think some of that is water weight after all the bacon we ate!!! I'll see what happens in a week.

Anyway..keep up the good work everyone. I did not reach my official goal but it did not matter. I still had fun and was proud of the progress I did make!!!

I did OK today, not great, but definitely OK. I think I need to list some goals that I feel should be worth working on. Maybe they will even be reasonable and attainable. :p

1) Walk on my treadmill atleast five days a week. Three days a week I'd like to put it on an incline for part of the time to get my heartrate up a little higher. ---Disney related goal---By the week before my Disney trip, I'd like to be able to walk at least 5 miles with no noticable effects the following day and repeat that at least 3 times, hopefully as much as 5 times, during that last week and then take a day off just before my travel day.
:rockband:

2) Get back to drinking 64oz of water a day at the least.
:drinking:

3) Give up soda all together, Again! Why, oh why, did I start drinking soda again after doing so well for so long? (It has been "diet", but I don't want to drink that either!) No more soda! ---Disney related goal---While I am on vacation, I hope to be able to either not be tempted by anything other than an expensive bottled water or at least be able to consistently resist the temptations. (read that as "have absolutely no chance of getting any caffeine headaches and reduced chances of insomnia and bloating.")
:daisy:

4) Get in the habit of remembering (and actually taking) my multi-vitamin at the same time every morning.
:sunny:

5) Work on organizing and cleaning my home better. I think this will make a big difference to my state-of-mind/motivation/depression. And if I have even a little success with it, it will definitely help with getting my life together enough to reduce the temptation to resort to convenience foods all of the time. ---Disney related goal---I'd like to be organized and calm in those last few days leading up to my trip (relatively speaking, that is), and not frustrated and crazy and ending up forgetting very many things that I should have packed.
:laundy:

Long time no post! Love reading all of your posts, but school is crazy & I'm too drained to write anything relevant. However...

I just wanted to share my latest joy. I've made a lifestyle change since January. Not a diet. A lifestyle change. I've loved it. Have lost over 40 pounds, took a break, still lost, back on and losing again. Yes I'm happy I'm 3 sizes smaller. Yes, I'm happy I'm healthier. Yes, I'm very happy I can indulge now and not gain weight. But the thing that thrilled me the most happened yesterday. I'm out doing my 3.5 mile walk and I'm staring at my shadow. I realized I like my shadow! I used to blame the shadow hips due to the angle of the sun when I was walking, but now I take credit for their size due to hard work and perseverance. I thought, "Wow! Even my knees look skinny!" I just had to share probably the most irrelevant, silly joy of losing so much weight. It was an awesome feeling!

I apologize for not posting in the last few days. I am down to just a few days before I head to the beach and I have been doing a lot of prep work in order to get ready. I want to welcome our newest member, fromscratchmom :welcome: . It seems as you came in with an amazing success story. Your advice for the rest of us made a lot of sense as well. How long have you been exercising and watching what you eat? The fact that you have lost 50 pounds is incredible. That is an inspiration to us all.

Teacher31 - First, let me say we have missed you around here. Second, that is a fantastic testiment to why we go through the trials and tribulations that we are going through on a daily basis. Saying NO to all of the enticing food items that we may desire from time to time but no that it is not what we need right now is extremely hard but very rewarding. You are living proof. I congratulate you on your success.

DisFam - I am extreeemly jealous of you. I wish I just had a Disney trip in the plans and yet, you just got back. I know I may be heading to the beach in a couple of days but the beach is nothing compared to going back to the World. When you get a moment, please tell us a little about your trip. I want to congratulate you on your willpower while on your trip. To pass by some of your favorite places shows you just what kind of life change you have made. I applaud you on that achievement.

Now, for my update. I haven't been able to get as much training and cardio as I would like. My weight is staying the same so I am not gaining but I am not loosing either. Even though I am about to head to the beach, I don't have my motivation. I don't know if it is the stress of work or if it is the fear of doing more damage to my knee. There is so much that I want to do at the gym but I feel like I can't give it the focus that is needed to be able to succeed at my goals. Please pray for me. I don't know if things are going to get better or worse but I do know that I feel like I am going to crack sometimes. Thanks for your support and encouragement.

Bryan
