Dieting for Disney

Hi Gang! :sunny:

I want you all to know that despite my absence, I've still been reading all of your posts and have been so inspired by your optimism. It really sounds like everyone's doing well with their goals whether it be exercise, not eating sweets (Bubba - you're my hero ;) ) and maintaining your healthy lifestyles through your busy schedules. Way to go!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

AlaskaMom - thanks so much for your kind words!!! In all honesty, I can say the same about you. You're doing so well in your exercising as well. If only saying no to ice cream could be as easy as exercising is for me! ;)

Things are going fairly well on my end. I've got about 3 weeks left to lose weight before we go camping and then onto Disney. I haven't lost as much weight as I wanted, but I'm trying not to dwell on that. I figure I've lost close to 30lbs and I need to celebrate that success. I'm still hoping that my size 10 dress will fit comfortably by our trip.

You may have read in my journal all the tempting foods that have come my way this week. That homemade ice cream is pure evil!!! I'm pleased to report that I didn't break my healthy lifestyle despite these temptations.

I'm coming down with a cold today I think, so I'll probably try to take it easy this weekend. The weather is pretty crappy right now, so I don't feel so guilty reading a good book.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for keeping this thread alive. You're all so darn inspiring!!!!!! Hope you're all having a fabulous Labour Day weekend!!

i have been sitting here reading posts from everyone, and i have tears in my eyes because i believe you guys are what i have been looking for. i am 32 years old and i have a wonderful husband and a son who is almost 4. i don't remember when i was ever happy with myself. i want to loose the weight but i am the type of person who needs the encouragement to do it, i guess because i have not had the want to do it on my own. please can you tell me where i need to start. i am not ready to throw the rest of my life away by being overweight. i want to have another baby, we have been trying for 1-1/2 years and i am still not pregnant. i want to run and play with my husband and son.

we are going to disney, thanksgiving 07 and i am so excited. it will be our 1st time ever. i want to lose weight in a healthy way, so i can maintain it. i am 5foot 3 inches tall and weigh 240.5 pounds and 47% body fat. see i told you i need help. my long term goal is to lose 90 pounds by thanksgiving 07. can anyone guide me as to where to start. i will post a pic of myself as soon as i finish loading everthing into my new computer :tink:

jkp - Welcome to our family! :welcome: :woohoo: We are extremely excited to have you join our group. As far as saying where do you need to start, I think you just did. You know that you need help and now you have asked for it. That is a huge first step to take so congratulations on that. I can also tell you that we do have a great group here that either has or is going through what you are at one time or another. I know for me, my happiness is knowing that you are succeeding on meeting your goals.

So now, where do we start? First off, don't look at it as setting yourself such a high goal of 90 pounds. That can be an overwhelming number so let's make smaller goals. Something like 5 pounds in 2 weeks or 10 pounds in a month. You have to take baby steps. You can't just start off running and say I have to loose 90 pounds or else I have failed. That can be demoralizing. But with smaller goals that are more obtainable so you can see results is a lot more exciting for you. But you also have to change your eating and exercising habits. For exercising, you just need to move around enough to get your heart rate up and to make you sweat. In order to loose the weight, of course, you have to burn more calories than you take in. You don't have to run for 5 miles a day or anything like that. Just try to be more active. As for your eating habits, not knowing what they are like now, I would tell you the same thing that I have told just about everyone. Drink lots of water. Don't eat any fried foods. Stop eating breads. And eat a lot of vegetables (without all of the sauces). These steps will make a huge step for you to reach your goals. Also, feel free to posts here as often as you would like to let us know how you are doing. With all of the people that we have here, I am sure we can give you all types of different ideas to assist you. :grouphug:

Again, welcome to not only our group but also to the minority of people that wants to live a healthier lifestyle. I look forward to seeing your before and after pictures. :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Good Monday Evening EVERYONE and Welcome to our NEWBIES, GINA and JKP :welcome: !!! You have found a fabulous Thread with wonderful motivating people all in PURSUIT of weight loss. :goodvibes

DH got home late last night with all SMILES :) . He had a fabulous time and immediately downloaded 8 cd's of pictures. We spent TWO hours looking at all of them. DS is all moved into his dorm and settling in nicely in Scotland at the University. :teacher: Bubba, many many thanks for all your prayers!!! :goodvibes

DH got up this a.m. and weighed himself and had LOST one more pound. Yes, he did. HE WAS THRILLED. He did sooo much walking with DS over "hill and dale" all throughout Europe that he came home one pound LESS than when he left.

He joined me back at the walking track in town tonight and we did just shy of 4 miles in one hour. I heard allot of exciting stories with more to come at our next walk.

Bubba: I could not add one thing to all the INSPIRING words, ideas, thoughts you offered to JKP!!! JKP, I ditto everything our "fearless leader" has said!!!

For the newbie's info, if was our very own BUBBA, who started this Thread back in Feb (I think) and his fabulous, outstanding info all day long on weight loss and exercise is amazing!!! Hence receiving from all his tried and true followers the title of "fearless leader"!!!

I would like to tell all of you about this very interesting book my sis bought me = 2006 Calorie, Fat & Carb counter by The Calorie King. It rates over 200 fastfood chains and restaurants nationwide.

McD's Big Mac = 560 cal, 30 fat grams, 47 carbs
Fries = large = 530 cal, 25 fat grams, 70 carbs

OUTBACK Bloomin' Onion w/dressing 1/4 serving = 2210 cal, 183 fat grams, 240 carbs...YIKES :scared1: .and how many of us have had the Bloomin'
Onion (me).

Dunkin Donuts Coffee Coolatta w/cream 16floz. = 350 cal, 22 fat grams, 40 carbs!!! OMG!!!

The info in this book is SHOCKING!!! :scared:

Anyway, I did not mean to freak you all out, but this is just a tiny sampler of some of the foods out there we are all consuming!!!

Hope everyone has a good week. Keep your focus. Keep all your challenges going daily. Remember this is about YOU. You are doing this for yourself. Too many times we all spend so much of our time doing for others which is WONDERFUL but the dieting and exercising is for US. So we can all feel good about our selves 24/7!!! :cheer2: Here I am cheering for all of you on this Thread and for all of you out there waiting and wanting to join Dieting for Disney...our motto: WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!!! :cheer2:

This sounds like a great thread for motivation. We've got a trip planned for Jan. '07 and I need to be more healthy and fit in order to do all the fun things that I want to do without the fatigue and pain. I need to lose a substantial amount of weight (40 plus) and also suffer from osteo arthritis in my knees. I'll be checking in here regularly to get some much needed motivation.

DisDee - Welcome :welcome: aboard our happy band of exercising enthusiasts. I sincerely hope that you can find the motivation that you are looking for. I noticed that you have already joined the exercise thread. If I may, I would like to ask you if you have anything that you just can't do due to the osteo arthritis. I too have some severe knee problems that has been aiding in my excuses of why I haven't been to the gym as much lately so I was just curious. I would also like to ask you if you would give us just a little more background information so we will know better ways to assist you. Otherwise, I would like to say :woohoo: and give you a :cheer2: as you are on your way to a healthier you.

Momrek  Everytime you come on here, it seems like your words of encouragement and praise makes me blush. I don't know if I am deserving of all of it but I thank you deeply for every word. I also wanted to say how happy I am that your DH made it home safely and even with an additional loss. That is not only encouraging for him but rare for anyone that ever takes a trip.

I made a mention about my knees and how they have been hoding me back. Honestly, they are not the only things that have been holding me back. Work has been murder as of late but I am confident that is about to change for good. I was actually able to do some exercise today. I wasn't able to get to the gym because of a concert that was going on right across the street. But I did come home and do some exercise and tried to work up a sweat. I am very motivated right now as I am trying to get ready for the beach. I don't know if I have the "guts" to post a picture of myself at the beach or the pool but I am going to do the best I can to represent my family here as well as I can. Thank you for all of the motivation that you supply me as well!! :woohoo: :grouphug: :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Thanks for the nice welcome! Most of the limitations with my arthritis are set by me out of fear of pain when over working my knees. I know that the more I excercise carefully and in moderation, the stronger I will become, but after years of relative inactivity, most activities make me a little stiff and sore a day or two later. I went thru a few weeks of physical therapy last year and received a home program, but like with everything else, I do it for awhile and then fizzle out. Back in the eighties, I actually taught aerobics classes...the high intensity type with all the pounding movements, so I'm sure that I'm paying for it now.

Well, enough said about that. I'll set a daily exercise goal this week, and then just do it! Stretching is a key element for me right now, so I'll start with my PT stretches and walk each day. Sounds like a plan!

I'll post regarding my eating habits next time. Thanks for the support!

good morning!!! i am just stopping by to let you know that i am still on a roll, my husband says he hasnever seen me more dedicated. i am excited for myself. i followed the ww to t, and i exercised, for 30 minutes again yesterday. the stories and the motivation are wonderful.thanks for being here :cheer2:
well i hope everyone has a great day, i am off to work :moped:

Hello..newbie here

I have 26 days to go until my Disney trip. Man it's snuck up on me. I want to loose 10 pounds in this month before I go. We last went in Feb and I hate looking at my fat face pics!! I'm done having my kids, youngest DS is almost 1 and I've lost all the baby weight +13 lbs. I was 201 right before getting preggo so I'm starting w/ that weight in my head.

I weighed today at 187.6. I did 60 min on the treadmill and have stuck to my eating plan. I did lick the knife w/ thin layer of PB on it after making DS4's sandwich and had 1..yes 1..cheese nip.

Day's not over yet but I did survive a trip to Target and walked past the Mellowcreme Pumpkins. OMG I could eat a bag in 1 sitting..yes I really could and have :rotfl: With a Diet Coke of course.

Anyway...just saying hello and hope to come post to keep my self motivated to loose weight for myself and my trip!!!

I'll have to catch up on everyone else's stories later..groceries to unpack and kids to feed!!!

:sunny: Welcome Disfam95, jkp_9192002 and disdee!! :sunny:
You've come to a terrific place for support and encouragement. You've already heard from Bubba (our fearless leader :worship: ) and Momrek (our resident cheerleader :cheer2: ). I wish I had something profound to offer in the way of advice, but they covered it all! It is in a large part to them, that I'm still here - 3 months later. I hope you join this thread often. It's wonderful having people around with similar goals who applaud your successes and provide wondeful encouragement when you're down. Thank you guys............from my heart!!!! :cloud9:

Sorry for not posting for a while. It has been a pretty stressful few days. I had a bit of a health scare that really threw me for a loop. I think all is well now, but I won't know for sure for a few weeks (once the test results are back). My doctor doesn't seem concerned, so I'm relieved about that.

My exercising has been pretty good as of late as I'm counting days down to our trip (camping for a few days, and then onto Disney). Eating has been consistently pretty good, but my water intake is still up and down. I've been better the last couple days though, so hopefully that streak will continue!!

I tried my dress on this morning. It's definitely looser (I figure I've lost an inch on my waist and hips each, since I bought the dress). If I could lose about one more inch in the next couple weeks, I'll be all set. I could wear it now if I had to, but losing a bit more will make it more comfortable. How wonderful will it feel to wear that dress and........gasp.........be able to breathe! ;)

Bubba: Best of luck to you as you prepare for the beach! But then, luck really isn't the right word. I know you have the determination and drive. I hope we'll be seein a pic of you soon!!!!

Momrek: I'm glad you've got your walking partner back! :goodvibes I hope your ds is enjoying university so far. It was one of the best times of my life! Those statistics you gave were frightening!!! Now that we're armed with this knowledge, hopefully we'll think of it when we're reaching for that next Bloomin' Onion. Ouch!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Labour day weekend. We can do it!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'd like to join your group--
we are planning to be in disney jan 07--

I'd like to be at goal weight and loose 30 lbs--and KEEP it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:woohoo: :welcome: Welcome to our newest members, njcarita and DisFam95 . It is always a joy to have new members join up that have a desire to live a healthier lifestyle. We can't look at it as a "Diet". Because if all you do is change your habits for a little while so you can loose the weight, as soon as you go back to those habits, you will put the weight back on. Also, we have to remember that "diet" is a 4-letter word and we all know what our parents told us about using 4-letter words. Nevertheless, we all welcome you to the team and sincerely hope that you find the encouragement, motivation and information that you may be looking for.

CJK I hope all is well with you. Please let us know what your Doctor says when you get your results back. I will continue to offer up all of the warm thoughts and pixiedust: that I can to you. It is always great hearing from you. It sounds like you are so close to your goal that you can touch it. How exciting is that for you?! I bet that if we did a little change in your routine and tried to make it a little more intense, we could make that dress of yours too big and then you would have to get a smaller size. Let me know if you are interested. I have a couple of ideas but they won't be very easy.

Update Now, to give you a quick update on what is going on with me. I have finally been able to get some experienced help to work with me so it is freeing me up to get back to the gym. Yesterday was my first day back in almost 3 weeks. I had continued to try to do some stuff like push-ups and crunches at home but it was very easy to say no and not do it at all. Well, yesterday I did chest, triceps, a little bit of shoulders and abs. I was only in the gym for 45 minutes as I really had to get home to help the kids with their homework so I kept the intensity level way up. (Not always the smartest thing to do on your first day back in the gym.) Anyway, I was going from one exercise to another stopping long enough to get some water and that was it. I would do some bench press and then abs. Incline press and then abs. Chest flyes and then abs. I could really feel it working on my stomach and by the time I got home, they were twitching. It felt good to get back in the gym. The down side of it all was I was going to do some cardio but when I got up from doing my first set of abs, it felt like my knee was about to fall out from underneath me. That was scary! After that, I took it easy getting up from everything so that wouldn't happen again. (I guess I have to make another trip to the Chiropractor.) But I have the determination to do whatever I can to get in the best shape possible. I have to get ready for the :beach: . I hope you have all had a wonderful week. It is almost over so let's get out there and do something that is going to cause us to sweat. Sounds dirty but it works! :grouphug: :woohoo: :thumbsup2

Welcome njcarita!! :cheer2: I hope you stick around! You can lose that 30lbs!!! :cheer2:

Bubba: Sorry to hear that you're still struggling with your knee. I hope the chiropractor can help. It sounds like you had some incredible work-out though! I would LOVE some of your advice re: my routine. I'm open to some changes. I've done well, but I think I do need to shake it up a bit. Thanks so much. :sunny:

Hello Everyone! How is going???

Well This last two weeks for me have been very stressfull @ work. Normally I don't cut my gym time when I feel Stressfull because is a well known secret that excersise helps to down stress levels. But, these weeks I tried the same as bubba, exercising from home. Bad choice! It easier to do less or do nothing @all. So, I'm preparing myself for my big GYM RETURN :yay: Next Week! Yeap, I love going to the gym, it's like a moment to myself (Me with me only) and I'm getting the tonification I want, why not to love it? :rotfl: So, GYM here I go..... :moped:

So, this is all for now...I hope everyone still doing good...

Happy Dieting!!! :cheer2:

Hi All--haven't posted in a while, though I have been around. I am back on South Beach (day 4 of phase 1 for those on the Beach) and it is going well. This plan has worked really well for me in the past, though I fell off the wagon for a while...

I have been exercising like a mad woman, so that should make the difference. Now that 2 of the 3 kids are back in school, I can focus a bit more on working out.

Heading down to the World for an adults-only trip on Oct. 22 (about 7 weeks) and would love to have 15 pounds gone (3 already gone, so 12 left). In truth, I have about 22 total to lose, but that is unrealisitc (to do in a healthy way) in 7 weeks, so I will aim for 15.

Would love to hear some creative cardio ideas....

I am the Elliptical Goddess at my gym...lol...I can stay on that thing for an hour! The read-out says that I have burned 600 (!) calories, but I can't believe that is accurate. I am also playing tennis for an hour 2 times per week. Would love other ideas that do not include running...not with these knees...

3Disneykids: wow..an hour the elliptical. I've been doing an hour speed walk on the treadmill and it says I burn like 430 so I bet the 600 is accurate. I'm so afraid to try anything new at the gym. Maybe I'll have to make that a goal sometime!!

Hello all! What a great group you have here! How nice to support each other in this tough stuff.

I am Katy, 38, 214lbs <gasp> and going down. My short term goal is to lose 30lbs by Dec.8. I'm already down 3lbs, can't forget to count those!!!

I am doing WW online and started exercising last week. I did two classes, over-did it, hurt my leg and have been unable to walk for the rest of the week! I'm finally recovering and will start this week, very gently, walking, maybe bike.

We are going to WDW and Universal Dec. 11-19. I really want to be down 30lbs by then. We leave here Dec. 8, to fly to the USA and visit family for a few days before WDW.

This summer we did an amusement park and my DSil couldn't go on a ride because her rear end was too big. I was quickly on my way there, one of the reasons I'm ready to do this.

I look forward to getting to know all of you!
Katy :sunny:

Hi all! It's nice to hear how everyone is doing, and to meet some new folks, too!

Katy: Welcome...nice to meet you!

3DisneyKids: "Elliptical Goddess", hmm? I'll have to come to you for tips. I'm trying to get started on one at the gym.

silverangel: I know what you mean about gym time being "me" time. I like that part, too! I'm lucky, too. Everyone at our gym is so friendly. Sure helps.

Bubba: Glad you were able to get back to the gym, and it sounds as if your work situation is improving. That's great. Hope your knee feels better.

njcarita: You and me are sharing the same goal date...Jan. '07. Our Disney trip is scheduled Jan. 8-23.

CJK: Glad to hear things are sounding positive with your doctor. Sending pixie dust your way... pixiedust:

As for me, things are going great. Next week, with the start of dance for my girls, we are back to somewhat of a schedule, which helps. I did start back at the club this week, and had a wonderful time. My favorite instructors all came back for the fall. So...all is well. :)

Hello all! Let me start by saying Welcome! and Welcome Back! to KatyBelle and 3DisneyKids. I am sorry that I haven't had the chance to welcome you sooner. As we all know, life can get very busy at times and it just seems like I have had my "time" for the last 3 months. I know I can speak for everyone here and say that we look forward to assisting anyway that we can. We want you to make your goals and even more.

CJK - Please send me a reminder message about what your routine is like right now. After reading that, I will try to give you some new ideas or new twists to help you make that dress too large for you on your trip.

As for me, I did go to the gym twice this week. I know it isn't much but I am trying to really be careful on not injuring myself. So, even though it takes a little longer, it is a lot safer. I have done so much ab work that it hurts my stomach when I sneeze. Even though I did my chest workout on Wednesday, my chest still hurts. I feel good about what I am doing but I do look forward to doing more. As for my knee, I have set up a doctor's appointment up for this coming Wednesday and I have a chiropractor's appointment next Wednesday. Hopefully, between the 2, I will be able to get it better. It helps a lot when I wear my knee brace so I have been wearing it a lot lately.

I have one little thing more. I know we are all Disney Fanatics as well and I have found a song from one of my CD's, Disney Greatest Hits Vol.3, that is very motivational. The song is from the movie "Return to Never Land" and the song is "I'll Try". Here are the words. Think about these words while we are trying to do our exercise.

I am not a child now
I can take care of myself
I mustn't le them down now
Mustn't let them see me cry
I'm fine, I'm fine

I'm too tired to listen
I'm too tired to believe
All these childish stories
There is no such thing as faith, and trust and pixie dust

I try
But it's so hard to believe
I try
But I can't see what you ssee
I try, I try, I try

My whole world is changing
I don't know where to turn
I can't leave you waiting
But I can't stay and watch
this city burn, Watch it burn

Cause I try
But it's so hard to believe
I try
But I can't see what you see
I try, I try, I try

I try and try to understand
The distance in between
The love I feel and the things I fear
And every single dream

I can finally see it
Now I've got to believe
All those precious stories
All the world is made of
faith, and trust... and pixie dust

So, I'll try
Because I finally believe
I'll try, cause I can see what you see

I'll try, I'll try
I will try
I'll try...
To fly...

This is what we need to do. I have this vision of every single one of you and you are all happy, healthy and in the best shape of your lives. Right now, you may not be able to see that. So let's take that pixie dust, the faith and the trust and succeed. I know you can do it. :grouphug: :grouphug:

Good Monday Evening Everyone. A very somber day in our lives here. I am not sure if I have ever shared this with you...DH survived the attacks on the WTC in NYC. He was working for the Port Authority of NY/NJ as a contract design engineer for the PORTS. He was living in a hi-rise apt in Hoboken, NJ. (He commuted home weekends). He was there from 2000-2004. At the same time my Bro (LTC Army) was working and had offices at the Pentagon (1999-2002). I was home in MA. One DS in college (out of state) and one DS in the 10th grade. DH was literally driving into the WTC garages with 3 other design engineers when the planes HIT the Towers. Despite all the hysteria and the bedlam, they managed to get out of NYC and head to NJ to their offices at Newark Airport.
I was a MISERABLE MESS at home all alone and the phone ringing off the hook from family and friends all over the country calling me knowing that DH worked at the WTC. I was shaking and completely out of my mind with worry. After the news of the Towers, we then hear of the Pentagon. My elderly parents in Maine were beside themselves. My mom crying and my dad angry at the act. DH FINALLY called me at NOON!
MIRACLES. DH was able to get a hard line out and call me. He was (needless to say) devastated. He was beyond shocked. The PA lost many fabulous design engineers, all who became very good friends of DH. MIRACLES, for probably the first time in many years, my bro was told to drive to Quantico, VA for Tuesday morn to attend Military Meetings. Bro was not at the Pentagon that morning. Bro was devastated as well. He lost many very close comrades.
MY DH and my bro were two very lucky men that day. DH was very sad for a long time following 9/11. He attended many funerals of engineers lost that day. The PA Police Dept lost 37 Police Officers. The worst loss of police personnel in American History.
Today, many PA employees called DH to chat and see how each other was doing on this FIFTH ANNIVERSARY of the attacks.

REMEMBERING ALL WHO WE LOST :grouphug: 9/11/2001
