I had all of the same concerns (unmeetable expectations... or exaggerated fears of a reaaaally negative experience).
Our 1st microtrip was to VB -- it was pretty, nice, but we weren't awed. We were barely there 40 hours (we were in Orlando for a wedding). We had an Inn room. I'm certain some of the problem for me was that I was dying to see the boardwalk (home). I wasn't all that "present." I'm sure my next trip to VB will be excellent and much longer.
Our August trip started out with a single night stay at OKW -- I really love that resort. Lush, secluded, with lots of character. And the rooms are very nice -- we were in a studio.
So we slowly are inching up to our 1st stay in a 1 bedroom at BWV. We had a standard view and liked it very much. The room was in great shape and had plenty of space. The access to Epcot and MGM was exactly what we wanted when we signed on (sight unseen). We were there four days and I still feel like I only saw 30% of the Boardwalk scene. We were in commando mode and were park focused. I'm glad/relieved to read that others DVC'ers are there for the resort as much as the parks. Won't that be a fascinating change for us
I'm just so curious to see all of the resorts -- "...impatient this one is..."
