I played hopscotch all the time when I was a kid. We used the already painted on ones on the school yard. I can still remember the fun of finding just the right stick or stone...
We used the ones were you had 3 small boxes followed by 2 side by side boxes followed by another box, another 2 side by side then the end box.
Played it on the driveway drawn with chalk. DD and her friend were just playing it the other day - after they drew the board on the driveway with chalk!
I loved playing this, and now my 5 yr old DS is playing it. We always have chalk for them to color the sidewalks with and for the past two weeks we have had a hopscotch board. The one my DH did was too small, and I could not do it, fell over into the grass as they all laughed at me. We do it as 3 single boxes, a double box, 2 singles, a double and then the end.
Yup.... just played in the driveway with my kids this week! When my kids were younger I took blue masking tape and created a hopscotch on the wall to wall carpet in the living room!! Left it for a few weeks!......................P
Yes, hopscotch was very popular during recess in my school. we also played at home. I remember searching for the perfect rock. DD 4, likes to play hopscotch but I've seemed to of lost my hop.
In elementary school they had a few hopscotch boards painted on the playground, which I played on a lot. At home we would always draw with chalk on the driveway and play.
I helped out at a school carnival and was shocked at how few kids knew how to hopscotch! Recently, they painted one in the school parking lot, but it must not get much use.
I lived in NYC for 3 years as a kid, not much room to do more than hopscotch outside.
