I was watching on CNN. The pilot who was talking at the end said that it wasn't going to be a big deal landing the plane. I think CNN made it out to be a much bigger story than it really was. I wouldn't have liked to be on that plane though!
Yikes, feel so sorry for the passengers. Can you imagine circling the airport for 3 hours, burning the fuel off, before you land?
How about the "yahoo" who taped the whole thing...how much do you think he got for "exclusive" tape played on NBC? Saw him on ABC too this morning. Think a book deal's next.
If I was a passenger on the flight, after being thankful for a safe landing; I'd be offended by the invasion of my privacy.
If any plane I'm on has a problem, I hope that pilot is flying it. That was an awesome landing. Looked smoother than some I've been on.
I'm not sure I would have wanted to watch CNN if I had been on that plane. CNN's coverage made me aware of the problem so I could say some prayers for the pilot, crew and passengers. Maybe it caused others to pray too!
I actually just seen that on my msn homepage. The funny thing was I didn't even realize it was Jetblue until I went to their homepage to check the January airfare again. Then I noticed they had a statement- that's when I went back to the homepage and noticed that the plane clearly said JETBLUE down the side.
Kudo's to that pilot. Hard or not to land-- he still had to be a total wreck.

It was a bit of a non-story, yet I could not stop watching it. It is nice to have a little drama with a good outcome! Better than actual TV... err... wait...
scary thing is that the people on the plane were watching the whole thing on their personal tv's!!! Now, that would scare me....... they should shut those tv's off if something like this is going on.......

Shutting off the TV would have the exact opposite effect on me. What the heck are they hidding from us? Are we all going to die? I think that letting the people watch the news (up until final approach when the TV sets would be turned off anyway), and explaining the situation to them was the exactly the right thing to do.

If that happened on the way to a destination, there is NO WAY I could get DH back on a plane for home. No way whatsoever. (He hates flying so much, he wants to drive for WDW trip from WI.) We'd be taking the loss and driving our rental car all the way home.
Kuddos to the pilot. My boss is a pilot and he was so impressed, he couldn't stop talking about it.
I was on a plane that the left engine died on. We weren't told anything except we are going to land. As we approached the runway we could see it lined with ambulances and fire trucks. After we were on the ground the pilot told us he was trained in one engine flying.
The passengers would have welcomed more information. It's terrible if that is happening and you don't know what it going on.
While I was not on that flight...I have been on a flight where we did have to dump all our fuel over the ocen and go in for and emergency landing. We were told, because they had to bank the plane, but I think every one was too busy frantically listening for instructions from the flight crew. Trust me I think the last think you are thinking about is TV's. I really did not have a horrible time flying again...but I just get a little nervous. I guess I figure the crews are really well trained for emergency situations.
