Oh, and AIED is really really rare . . . drug abuse is the much more likely culprit.

More likely doesn't mean definite. Maybe it was the cause, maybe it wasn't. The only info from his doctors that I've seen is that AIED is the cause. Maybe he is one of the "rare" cases. I can't say one way or the other what caused it, and neither can anyone else unless he and his doctors have released a statement about it. Maybe they have, and I wasn't aware.
Either way, I still think he has handled it very well.

I'm not a conservative, Rush is hardly the spokesperson for me. I'm just someone who doesn't know all the facts and can't say with 100% certainty what caused his hearing loss. I guess you guys that can are just the lucky ones who know it all

Thats what I feel about him, I am sorry it happened, no matter how it happened. I am not a fan and I do not listen to him. I am not here to defend his drug addiction, or pretend it doesn't exist. I don't see anyone "pretending" anything. I think there's some here that are projecting that notion but that's just my opinion.

While I don't wish harm on him, I do understand why others believe in poetic justice. He made fun of handicapped individuals and now he is handicapped himself. Karma is an interesting thing.

I agree. I don't understand why its so hard to understand that people can know he had a drug problem AND say they are uncertain of the cause of his hearing loss.

Maybe they listened to him in the past? I listen to him quite a bit and find him to be quite gifted at what he does. He is quite dismissive of those that disagree with him and seems like he would be tough to work for, but with that said, his show is definitely entertaining. I agree with about 5% of what he says though....still I do like to hear every side.

The fact that Rush was taking and was addicted to painkillers doesn't mean that they caused the hearing loss.

You spend enough time in hospitals and you'll find that sometimes the thing that seemed like the obvious cause wasn't the actual cause.

Is it usually horses? Yeah. But once in a while, it is a zebra. And sometimes, no matter how hard they look at it, they just can't figure out what kind of animal it is.

Nobody is pretending he didn't have an addiction. They just aren't pretending to have access to all his medical records.
