I know he had some hearing issues, and I know he got treatment. But I saw him on O'Reily tonight and thought I saw some sort of hearing aid thing in his ear. I looked it up and he had a Cochlear Implant put in. I didn't know that. Does he talk about this?

Yes he has talked about it on his show. He is deaf and readily admits that he is. The cochlear implant allows him to hear certain sounds and function in his job on radio.

Yes, he does discuss it. There is evidence of some linkage between certain drug abuse and sudden hearing loss. As I'm sure we'll be reminded here quite quickly, Limbaugh abused the prescription drug Oxycontin around the same time he lost his hearing. I have never heard him discuss it as a source of his hearing loss, however.

He didn't have to have the cochlear implant. He chose to have it done. It was his decision to have the surgery. He wanted to continue as a radio personality which is made easier by the implant. He could have choosen not the have the implant, learned ASL and to speech read and worked in another area had he not gotten and
The only ones having no choice in having a cochlear implant are deaf children as the decision is made by others including parents and doctors. Not strange that the parents want their child to have CI as 90% of deaf children are born to hearing adults. They want the child to be hearing same as they are. BUt it doesn't make the child hearing but only allows that child to function better in hearing society.

Yes that's true - no one held a gun to his head and forced him to get a cochlear implant. But that being the best option if he actually wanted to hear Rush chose to have surgery. Sorry, my bad.

Limbaugh himself admitted he was addicted to prescription painkillers, so it's probably not antibiotics that caused his hearing loss.

There are dozens of reasons for aquired hearing loss in adults. The two things may not have anything to do each other.

His doctors reported he had autoimmune inner ear disease.
Whatever the cause, I think he has handled it remarkably well. He doesn't complain about it, and he has adapted well to the challenges it poses to his job.
