Did you know this about Rush Limbaugh?

There is still no way to conclude that was the reason.

http://www.asha.org/public/hearing/disorders/causes_adults.htm

You are definitely correct-there is no way to conclude anything. I am just saying that the odds are against him, given the strong correlation.

Anyways, I know that cochlear implants are a very controversial topic. As much as I despise Rush L., I respect his right to choose cochlear implants. I see the pro's and cons to both sides-people have to go with what they are most comfortable with.

Who gives a crap, he spent years railing against drug dealers and those that use drugs, when it turns out he was one himself.

Please find a better explanation of hypocrite.

Politician.

I don't understand why it matters how he lost his hearing.

:confused3

I remember hearing a lot about his hearing loss in the news when it first happened. Since it was followed quickly by the news of his drug abuse some of the articles mentioned the correlation between the type of drug he was abusing and the sudden loss of hearing.
I've always figured there was a good chance the drug abuse caused it but I realize that there is the possibility something else cause it.

Loads of people take the drugs Rush took for many years and don't lose their hearing. I would hope that people who need painkillers won't read this and start flipping out, thinking they'll go deaf, etc.

There are other drugs that cause hearing loss, too. And yet more causes that are not pharmacological.

How/why Rush lost his hearing we just don't know. We can gossip all day long, but we still won't know for certain.

I know he had some hearing issues, and I know he got treatment. But I saw him on O'Reily tonight and thought I saw some sort of hearing aid thing in his ear. I looked it up and he had a Cochlear Implant put in. I didn't know that. Does he talk about this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochlear_implant

If you listen to his show every once in a while you can tell he reads what the callers are saying. Sometimes he has a delay in his response. "The Mouth that roared has lost its ears," Time proclaimed. The ordeal did come with a certain irony for a man who loves to talk but has been accused of never hearing anything said to his left. Now he couldn't hear anything with his left ear. When critics claimed he sounded different, Limbaugh agreed, saying his voice sounded to him like a chimpanzee. It may have been the voice change that prompted him to go public with his hearing loss.

If you have THAT much hatred for a person, why on Earth would you listen to him at all?:lmao:
Boy, there's something I've never understood.

I like Rush. I usually (but not always) agree with Rush. I think he's hellafunny, too.

But I almost never listen to him.

Why someone who doesn't like him, doesn't agree with him or think he's funny would listen to him...I just never get that. :confused3 But they do!

A lot of liberals feels he is Enemy #1.

Now that I am busy with other things during the day I no longer get to listen to him, but I used to. Did I agree with him? Sometimes, but not always. By nature, I am a pro-union conservative, so I disgreed with him quite a lot on worker's rights and upper managemant power abuse type issues. However, I always found him to be entertaining and informative. I heard things on his show that were not being reported among the major news organizations.

It is that dance with the devil. Is he using or not?

If you pretend he is not a drug addict then he is OK. .

Now you're talking about something else. You said you can pretend the hearing loss came from the abuse of pain killers. I asked, why would anyone want to pretend it (the hearing loss) didn't?

So they pretend he is not an drug addict. If you say that he lost his hearing through drug abuse then you have to look at him differently.

I can't explain it any plainer.:confused3

It was a side effect from abusing painkillers, period. You can pretend otherwise if you desire.

Rush is a recovering addict. His addiction to painkiller probably contributed his hearing loss. If he was in fact diagnosed with AIED that very well could have contributed to it. The two together probably increased his odds but you can't say only one was THE cause, unless of course you are his physician and know something that we all don't :) I'm not sure anyone else here is pretending :confused3

Drug addict? Yes, he was.

Hearing loss caused by drug abuse? You say yes and no one should pretend otherwise. I'm not an expert and I really don't care what caused his hearing loss. If it was the drug abuse, I'll accept that. I asked "why would anyone pretend that the hearing loss was cause by drug abuse?". I'm not trying to pretend he didn't abuse pain killers. Your statement makes people (like me) believe that some people are trying to claim his hearing loss wasn't from drug abuse. Actually someone did but I don't think they were saying he wasn't a addicted to pain killers.

I think you're trying to say people are pretending that he wasn't addicted to pain killers and the hearing loss wasn't connect to that abuse. If that's what you meant, you weren't getting your point across. At least to me.
