I didn't get time to cook them until this evening (Thursday).

A Delia Smith pancake recipe, lemons and sugar or maple syrup and cream topping. That's that for another year

They were scrumptious!

I forgot all about it until I saw the 'fresh pancake mix' in M&S on <i>Wednesday</i>. Not really surprised they hadn't sold it - who needs to buy pancake mix?

My friend was telling me about her husband making pancakes and at that point of already eatting eight pancakes, but didn't mention that it was pancake day. How did this get started? It's the first time I have ever heard of it.

yes we had pancakes here too lovely, with lemon & sugar....about the only thing I can cook better than Mark!

We had loads

I made the batter as my DW was out at her Brownies. I used a recipe from an old Stork cookbook I had from school.

I did cook a few but I'm not a very good tosser

We did Yummy. Lemon & Sugar for DH and I, chocolate spread and lemon & sugar for Katie.

I'm not so good at tossing, either - DD (11) does a much better job, so she was kept busy.

Shrove Tuesday is the real name for pancake day - it is the day before Ash Wednesday when a period of abstinence used to begin (Lent) so orignally everyone would apparently have a huge feast the night before Lent.

There's a good description here - including tossing the pancakes and pancake races!!

There's also a tie in with Mardi Gras (literally Fat Tuesday) too.

I cheated and bought the apple stuffed ones with toffee sauce from M&S but they were yummy

I'm all pancaked out, I made them at work for 20 people at lunch and then came home and made some more to the children!!!! !! served with apple filling at work and brown sugar and lemon juice at home. yummy

Only realised on Thursday evening that I'd missed Pancake Day when I saw packs of ready-made ones reduced in price in the local supermarket!

Anyway, I bought some (99p for 8!) and some fresh lemons and we had them for lunch on Saturday.

I had savoury pancake with minced meat in followed by a pancake with cherry filling and ice cream for afters.
