Did you ever get food poisoning at WDW?

I am just curious. They get thousands of people coming into the parks every day so food safety must be a huge concern when preparing so many meals.

So did you ever get food poisoning (or believed that you did) at WDW? Where did you eat?
I believe I did at the qs place in Mexico one year. Have been there before/after no issues, but that one was a rough night.o

Yes. We ate at the Port Orleans food court many years ago. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs tasted really off, but I took a few bites, thinking I was just imagining things. I was sick for the next 3 days. Really, really sick to my stomach. We were staying at Old Key West, and I sent my husband and kids off to the parks each day. I stayed in bed just exhausted.

Unless you have gone to a doctor or hospital and been tested, you can't really say "I HAD food poisoning". All you know is something made you ill. Could have been food, could have been a virus, could have been the water, could have just been some freak situation... anything really.

As someone who has had diagnosed food poisoning and was hospitalized because of it, I know well what it is like.
Yeah I gave my example on a different thread. My food poisoning happened during the Swine Flu time period. I only had a 3 hr stay in the hospital but I needed 2 bags of IV fluid, potassium pills, anti-nausea meds, etc. When we called the nurses hotline (who could actually give medical advice over the phone) they said to wait it out (with my symptoms I had) unless you had a fever of 102.5 then you could seek medical care. Lordy I had never wanted to get a high enough fever than I did at that point. Took a while but my temperature did get high enough and I went to the ER. It's been 11 years and I still remember the pain vividly.

My husband and MIL did from gumbo at Boatwrights. They were the only 2 that ate it and the only 2 that got sick. That was a super fun day the Next day when we were trying to get home and they were puking their guts up.

I can handle Anaheim water okay but for the taste it has to ICE cold.

I don't know if it was the hotel, or what, but I remember my first time in Anaheim I was brushing my teeth and my friend asked, "Did you fart?" It was the water! It happened everytime we turned on the sink. 🤣

A friend I was traveling with got so sick that he ended up at the hospital in Celebration. The bill was over 4 grand and he didn’t even stay overnight. The doctor said it was E. coli, but we had no idea where he picked it up since the other 3 in the party never got sick.

I always carry pepto and immodium with me just in case I get exposed to something.

My daughter did. She was 13 at the time. We ate at Boatwright's. DD had something different than my sister and me. She got extremely ill. After a terrible night, we ended up taking her to Celebration Hospital where they put her on an IV and kept her for about five hours. We had two days left on our vacation. They were a total bust as she was so weak she couldn't do anything. Bad trip!

Oh no! I would hate missing out on the holiday. Did you report it to anyone?

Yes. Jiko.

Not at Disney! I've had food poisoning, and it's very violent. I've also had a gastro virus (at Christmas no less!) and it was also very violent.

I have been sick to my stomach from eating greasy/rich food, but that's definitely different and passes fairly quickly.

I got sick after Mama Melrose, but I'm confident that it was too much rich food, too many rides, not enough sleep, dehydration, and overexertion all combined.

Yes, 3 years ago exactly. We had Christmas Eve dinner at Trails End. Within 3 hours I was throwing up.....all night. I am not sure what I ate that caused it, and no one else in my family got sick. I was sick all of Christmas Day, but better the next.
I’m certain it was something I ate.

At Disney, no, although there have been plenty of Disney foods that haven't agreed with me. I did get food poisoning at Sea World. I noticed about a minute too late that my smoked chicken was MUCH pinker than it should have been. It was a rough rest of that solo trip.

When I was 10 I was hospitalized with e-coli. I probably got it while eating an undercooked hamburger at a local amusement park. My mom believed it was just the typical stomach virus but it wouldn't go away. When she finally took me to the doctor, he had her take me to the ER. I will never forget the doctor telling my mom that you have to be diagnosed with food poisoning. I have no idea why this memory has stuck with me because I was in just terrible pain and I was so ill, but it has.

I always ask the baggers in the grocery store to put raw meat in it's own bag. I've had some roll their eyes and I tell them that if you ever get e-coli, you will understand this request.

I don't think the water is actually bad, but it's all in what you are used to. If you come from somewhere where the water quality is higher, it may upset your stomach. I can drink Orlando water okay, but Anaheim water is to be avoided!
Only been to WDW once, no issues. Anaheim I have been to dozens of times, never got sick, but Anaheim drinking water is not the best tasting I have ever had. Not the worse, almost anywhere in Texas has awful tasting water.

Yes, ds 3 & I both had fried rice at the Chinese CS several years ago. We both had terrible cramps and diarrhea within 30 minutes and for two days plus fever. That was the only thing my dh did not eat at that meal and he was never sick. That was the only bad reaction we ever had to the food there.

Actually, it wasn't true food poisoning, but we were very sick. Like @LilyWDW said food poisoning is way worse and much more serious. I once ate some bad oysters and was very ill very soon after and had diarrhea, throwing up and high fever for a week - saw the Dr. twice and nearly had to be hospitalized - lost 10 lbs. that I didn't need to lose.

If didn't really make me sick, but I do remember on the first day feeling just a little upset stomach and we were talking to locals in line for Haunted Manasion and they were aghast that I had been drinking the tap water. They advised me to stop. I never really had any issues though.
