Did you drink coffee as a teen?

My grandmother used to give me coffee with tons of cream and sugar in it when I was maybe 7.

I started drinking it pretty regularly in my junior year of high school when I was 15-16. (yes, I was young for my grade.)

I drink it regularly now. People told me it would stunt my growth, but I'm 5'8 and if it did stunt me, I'm glad not to be any taller!

I don't think it is appropriate.

But I drank lots of diet coke in my teens. I can't stand coffee anything. I had a taste when I was five and then again in my older teens and it was icky. At 36, it still is. But back when I was in school, coffee was not the status symbol that it is now. Also--a lot of those mocha frappa fru fru drinks are loaded with sugar and calories. So it isn't just a cup of joe--it is a cup o' junk. Not that aspartame is any better, but zero calories is better than several hundred a cup.

I don't think all of this coffee drinking is good.

I don't see how it is much different than a lot of the energy drinks or sodas. :confused3 Of course, you may not find them appropriate. I think I would object more if DS wanted sugar in his, but he takes it black and I can't see that it is any worse than soda or tea. YMMV.

I didn't drink coffee when I was a teen and still don't, I like the way it smells but I hate the way it tastes. My grandparents and mom were big coffee drinkers but, I never aquired a taste for it. I do however like tea, regular tea no fancy flavors, with 1 sugar and just a splash of milk.

DD14(turned 14 at the end of September) is a completely different story, she absolutely loves coffee especially Starbucks, she even asked for Starbucks gift cards for her b-day. She and her friends have been frequenting Starbucks since they were 12.
I am not worried about it stunting her growth, she is 5'8" and still growing(she grew 1/2" this summer).

She hates energy drinks(thinks their gross), and I don't think her having a cup of regular coffee is any worse than her drinking a can of coke.

I have loved coffee since I was a small child old enough to grab the coffee cup sitting on the table and gulp some down :goodvibes When I was really young I didn't get my own cup just sips from family. I can't recall how old I was when I started having my own cup. I drink it with cream and sugar or just cream depending on my mood but I cannot drink it black.

At around 16 I tried coffee a few times, but threw up after just a few sips. I haven't tried coffee since and I'm 64 now.

I started drinking coffee at the age of 6 (mind you, it was mostly milk and sugar at that time). My parents loved their morning and evening coffee and felt it was a time when folks could sit together and talk as a family. They also felt it was an important cultural thing for me to learn to like. I'm not saying the way my parents raised me was the norm, though.

I can't remember when I didn't drink coffee. I was single-digits young when my parents would let me add a splash of coffee into my milk. As with all gateway drugs;) over time I added more coffee and less milk. I was a coffee w/cream drinker probably by junior high school. When I got into the work force at 16, I switched to drinking it black because it was too much trouble to acheive the right mix of coffee and creamer at work. :)

I am 59 and have drank coffee virtually all my life -- as a young child, as a child, as a teen, as an adult.

My Dad tried to get my sister who was 10 years older than me to try his coffee when she was about 11 and she didn't like it. Now my Dad was from the south and disliking coffee was "Unamerican" to him. So he started mixing coffee in with the milk in my bottle when I was not yet 2.

My own children starting drinking from my coffee mug when they were young, probably about 4. "Mom, can I have a sip of your coffee." So it continues.

Me, no. I don't like the taste. But my 12yo son has quite the latte habit. I just keep reminding him to get decaf - and sugar-free if the option is available. If it's decaf, I don't see any difference between that and a soda.

I drank it as a child. Mostly instant, with alot of milk and sugar. But still, coffee.

I loved the smell of coffee, but I'm pretty sure my mother didn't allow me to start drinking it until I was an older teen.

My daughter started drinking coffee when she was 14, a freshman in high school.

I'm with those who love the smell of coffee brewing but can't stand the taste no matter how much sugar or cream is added.

That said, DH loves coffee. I bought a small Mr Coffee coffeemaker because I thought he should have coffee if he likes it. I sure don't understand his thinking that just because I don't like coffee we didn't need the coffeemaker just to make coffee for him. I finally sold the darn thing at one of our last garage sales.

I think I was born drinking coffee! I'm Brazilian, it's just in our blood. As a young kid, I drank it instead of chocolate with my milk.

I started drinking coffee when I was around 12 but I'm not a daily coffee drinker. When I was 15 my first summer job was working at a family friend's dinner and that summer I had 1 or 2 cups of coffee everyday.

I also see teens hanging out different coffee places often. My friend is now managing a cafe and she has said there about 20 regular teen coffee customers everyday after school.

I grew up drinking hot tea, but coffee was not something that I liked. I didn't drink coffee in any form until I moved to Baton Rouge at 18 and would go to Coffee Call or Cafe Du Monde for cafe-au-laits. Of course, in those days, Starbucks was unheard of. I still cannot stand having black coffee, even if I order it in a restaurant with dessert, it is "half a cup of coffee please and lots of cream".
