I'm turning 40 next year and I want to do something, but I don't know what. When I was in my early 30's I thought about getting a tattoo when I turned 40, but I've decided against that now. I'd like to hear what, if anything, other people did for their big 4-0.

I went to dinner at a nice Italian restaurant with 8 girlfriends (who planned it). Lots of food, wine, and fun. Evening took a bitter twist when I got home to find 40 black roses from my ex:eek: He really knew how to make an impression, good and bad. Almost ten years later we're as close to being friends as I think we ever will be:laughing:

Yep! Most fun and special b-day ever was my 40th! I went to WDW the night before my b-day and I woke up at WDW!! Then I went to MK and when I went to bed that night, I was still at WDW. Not one minute of my actual 40th b-day was spent anywhere other than WDW!! That was my dream b-day and it was wonderful!! Oh, and add in the awesome lunch at HOB! YUM!!!

For my 40th the family threw me a big party in a park with lots of family and friends and chocolate.

For DP's 40th she wanted something more formal so we had a formal dinner for about 35 people at a high end hotel and rented a suite for the night.

For my 50th (in 5 years) I'm lobbying for the 2 of us to go to WDW for a few days and stay at either WL or AKL.

I went on a 7 day cruise to the Southern Caribbean and treated us to a suite! :) And we flew first class. Saving up for my 50th now.lol.

My mom did a big family party for both my siblings when they turned 40, but was not able to do so for me. She gave me the money instead, and my family and I took a trip to WDW. :cloud9:

Nope! My mom was visiting, my husband was laid up with a food ailment and they expected me to cook my own birthday dinner. I got pissed and refused and made them take me to the Cheesecake Factory where the waiters sang happy birthday.

I think I cleaned the bathrooms...that was special.

Why yes, I did. I stood in total shock, 7 (fat) months pregnant (remember at 40!) while my DH videotaped me at my surprise (did I mention I HATE, HATE, HATE surprise parties?) 40th-(did I mention it was my 40th-7 month pregnant-birthday?) birthday party.

How I kept a smile on my face is beyond me.

Happy 40th birthday! I'm sure yours will be better than mine!!

Mine was in March. I went to Disneyworld with my Mom :cool1:. And didn't tell my 4 year old. He thinks "Mommy went to Florida" :rolleyes1

My DH planned a Hugh surprise party for me. A limo was to take me and my girlfriends out for a night on town, but we would come back early to a full house BUT my DS decided it was time to be born. I had an emergency C Section and woke at the hospital with my entire out of town family around me. I thought the worst as I thought "why are they there"!
My DS was in intensive care for a few days, but all turned out fine!:thumbs up 2 I was in pain after the surgery as well as a bit out of it:rolleyes1:sick:,my girlfriend arrived and she was all giggly...we had a surprise party all planned etc etc. I just looked at her and said the surprise is on you!
It was quite an emotional day, but I got the best present ever!

Went to WDW, of course! Stayed at WL, spent my birthday at Epcot, ate at the Coral Reef, got a free bottle of water from a lovely CM who liked my birthday shirt and had the best 40th!

I was knee deep in External Auditors when I had my 40th, so I really didn't even notice it.

Besides, I can pass for being in my mid to late 20's. I certainly don't want to draw attention to my age.

I covered my ears and went, "LALALALALA I can't you!" but it happened anyway.

And then I had a quiet dinner with friends.

Yeah, had a colonsocopy and endoscopy because I was having diarrhea for 5 months and had lost like 40 lbs.

Happy Birthday to me!

Marie threw me a surprise party at home, three months early. Birthday is in July, she threw it in May; said I would know it if it was close to my actual day. We always had a St Patrick's Day dinner party (us and three other couples) back then, March 17, or close to it. She made excuses for us not being able to have the party in March and in May said we were going to have it, a make up St Patty dinner. Corned beef, St Patrick decorations, she was wearing green, the whole bit. The three couples came over, and then about another 50 or so people came about 30 minutes later. I was stunned, truly surprised. A great evening with friends and family.

Gosh, that was so long ago. :faint:

My 40th is still 4 years out but I plan to have it at WDW. There is no place I would rather be.

My 40th is in a couple of weeks :guilty::scared1: and I'll be at WDW with my DH and 2 sons (8 and 12). It's our first trip there (from Australia). We have tickets to MVMCP and breakfast and Crystal Palace.

I just wanted to forget the whole thing as it doesn't seem like something to celebrate. My friends were talking about making a big deal about it, which I definitely didn't want, although they organised a low key celebration before we left for our 6 week USA holiday.

In a few weeks my DS celebrates his 9th birthday at DL. :yay:
