I find it puzzling that the entire month of June has upcharges. I find it puzzling that people would pay that upcharge. My guess is that if you don't "DIsney" frequently you would be inclined to ahve the package and won't notice the change that much. I fyou are "one of us" it is going to be harder to justify some of the spending. First I thought I'd just drop the DDP, then prices went up and I thought maybe I should still DDP, then I really thought about one day after getting food at Applebees for the whole family--sorry most WDW non-signature restaurants are only on par with the quality of an Applebees--three course meal for all 4 with drinks and tip about $80. I have a car, I will be spending time off site at other parks and I will be enjoying food without "over the top pricing". I like an all inclusive vacation to get one I will be vactioning elsewhere.
My aside thought--if the concern is that people will be tipping lower for buffets, by adding the extra $5 per person the waitstaff will get better tips--now the wages of the servers will not "go down" as significantly as a result of the new plan, they will stay about the same and it doesn't come out of Disney's pocket. So if your a 10% buffett tipper, you would have tipped about $11 on a dinner at Garden Grill for a family of four all considered adults--as rounders by nature many would leave $10. Now with the upcharge you are tipping $13. most will round up to $15 because the service was better than 10% and many are rounders by nature. Now the 10% tip becomes 15% of the old $112 price and closer to what the server was used to. So the $123 you used to spend with tip becomes about $147 but the server only loses five dollars tip rather than $10 from the tip.
