Did I miss this somewhere, holiday prices May 25-July5, 2008?

As I said nothing is free.....somebody's paying for it.

I don't belive free dining is the only factor, but I believe it's one of them.

The guests who book it are paying for it by having to book rooms at rack rate. That time of year, they could have also taken advantage of room discounts.

The free dining program often sees AP holders and even DVC members booking rack rate packages to get it.

I am new so I took a short cut and copy and pasted.

Schools in a lot of the country are out around Memorial Day or soon after. My niece is in Indiana and they get out May 16th. Plus the weather is not sweltering yet like July and August. I would imagine that a lot of people would go during this time. They probably have seen by past years gate numbers that this is prime time.

I was not aware that Disney was ever a value. I love Disney, but value has nothing to do with it. $8.00 hot dog now that is Disney. Just kidding, coming from NJ we find Disney par with local restaurant charges. But many have joked for years of how expensive Disney is. We are going for 10 days with 2 little girls. We are figuring about $150-$200 per day for food. And by past trips that should be right in line.

Brian Noble has it exactly right. Disney is a business. And any well run business will make a profit.

As far as the cost, CRT was $6.00 more per adult and $4.00 per child for 5/25 or after. So I made my reservation for 5/24.

We had thought about going in June, but if this is going to be happening then we'll either not eat at those places or we'll end up at the beach in another state besides FL. I don't mind paying a little extra to go to disney, but I have a limit and they are getting closer to it.

Ok, I am pretty upset by this. I first read the thread and thought to myself, "Well, I avoid WDW during busy/holiday periods, so I'll be ok!" Then I read it again and my heart sank...Jan 5???? Oh nooooo!

A few months ago, I made an ADR for a party of 9 to celebrate my DD's 9th Bday. The ADR is for January 5th. The meal will be our "treat" as it is going to be DD's birthday party. If I would have known this info sooner, I would have made the ADR for Jan 6th!

I just called Disney Dining as I was typing this post. He said it is indeed $4 adults, $2 kids. He said the holiday pricing has been in effect for years now. is that true?

Yes, holiday pricing has been in effect for many years.

BUT, Jan 5th was not included in the dates for holiday pricing last year. (We ate at TS restaurants last year Jan 2-5th without encountering holiday pricing.)

I think that you, and many others, have a legitimate complaint about when they announced these holiday rates and dates.

I mean, they have to preset their value/regular/peak/holiday seasons for their resorts. They can't come along after you've booked and say, "well, actually, that date should have been a holiday season so the price will be different from when you booked it."

Nonetheless, I doubt complaints will be successful. If people cancel their ADRs and boycott the extended holiday seasons it may have an impact for the future. But, the parks are so crowded at those times that it is likely impossible to get a strong enough boycott for Disney to feel it.

Over the last 10 years we have gone either at Easter or Christmas time, and I don't ever remember seeing an add on. As it is, the last two Easter Days we were able to use our DDE card at a few places. I'm not sure this has been going on for a while. But whether it has or not, there is no call for this.

profdisney-I also have a DDE card, thank goodness, it will take a little sting out of the bill!

hematite-Because I have a FL resident seasonal pass, I did indeed know that "holiday" dates were until Jan 5. I am sure they are doing it (considering those weeks "holiday") because most schools are out until Mon, Jan 7. I know ours is, as well as public schools down here. I truly was never ever aware that Disney did this...even on the actual holiday dates.

Thanks for the comments and empathy, anyway!:goodvibes

I totally "get" that Disney is overpriced. I never complain, I have always been a good sport about it. They are a business, I get that, I really do! But to raise prices during certain periods without offering more, well, that is kind of insulting. I mean, maybe if they threw some chilled jumbo shrimp or prime rib on the buffet, it would be easier to take.

We have gone the first week of Jan. for the last 4 years and have never had an added on surcharge, fee, etc. I don't know why they are telling people this because its simply not true for the first week of Jan.! I have never heard back from Disney Guest Communications(not that I expected too), so I guess the day of our Crystal Palace ressie I will speak to the manager and hope that she/he understands our dilema.:confused3

I am upset about it, just like you, trust me! BUT, I don't think we have a leg to stand on, because it is posted everywhere that holiday season runs until Jan 5th 2008. I may say something to the manager at Chef Mickey's when I receive my bill, but I always hate that feeling when you speak up and then get shot down. Plus, I am hosting the party of 9, so I would not want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. It's going to add $30 to my check, so I am a little miffed by it!

Holiday surcharges have never been in effect for such a long range of dates. We have experienced Holiday upcharges on the actual holiday only. Have been at Chistmas, Easter and July fourth--all those exact holiday meals had a surcharge, but never beyond or before the holiday. Specific holiday dining ADR's required a credit card deposit as well and the no show charge if the ADR was not cancelled.
Upcharge is new in the way it is currently set up for this year.

I was there last May, arrived on Sunday before Memorial Day and left next Sat. morning, and it was considered a Wonderful Week, that's why I booked that particular week. It had a little bit of a discounted price for the package, not much, but some. I was on dining plan, but I don't recall prices being higher on buffets during this time. And I certainly don't see why it would be higher through June. But, I will be on the dining plan again during this time (we're planning to go the day AFTER Memorial day this year) and I won't notice the holiday price hike anyway. :confused3

Well, good luck with that.

I don't understand your need to be sarcastic or negative! :confused3 Just simply stating what I was told to do by guest relations and what my intention was. My mother always said:"If you can't say anything nice about someone, then just don't say anything at all!"

Did they delete a post somewhere? I don't see anyone being sarcastic or negative to you.
I think we are all on the same page here that this is outrageous and there should be something done. What hasn't been resolved is what, or how. And I'm surprised that this thread only has 5 pages of response so far. As I mentioned before, this has to be new.

I agree that I'm also not surprised that there have not been more posts on this issue. What I was refering too is Brian Nobles previous post. It doesn't sound a little sarcastic to you? Maybe I'm reading something into this. :confused3

I'll agree, it sounded sarcastic to me, too.

But, I have to admit that I agreed with the sentiment and therefore didn't notice it at first. I figure the only response you will get at CP is something along the lines of "I'm sorry you were given the wrong information, you are welcome to eat elsewhere."

I think you have a legitimate complaint when ADRs need to be booked 6 months out and they don't announce holiday pricing (well, extended holiday pricing dates for food anyway) until a couple of months before the date. But, I suspect that your only recourse is to not eat at the included restaurants.

Sorry. Good luck!

Hematite153- Thanks for your reply! I'm glad someone else can see that I was not over-reacting. ;) I figure the worst that can happen is that they disagree with me. Doesn't hurt to try.

That's true, they may disagree, but you never know, they may try to "meet you halfway or something", after all, this is "the year of a million dreams", right? These surcharges forced me to add the DDP for our first time ever to avoid an extra $16 on a few of our nights.
