Did DVC Screw Up?

I just read this on the resort boards.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=14511025#post14511025

Basically the poster is renting and her member claims that DVC has screwed up two reservations and the reservations are now at different resorts then originally committed too.

I don't know, but based on my reading here I find this hard to imagine that it would happen twice to one DVC member when it seems to happen so rarely to the folks that post here (and who would post immediately LOL!)

So what do you think?

Personally, I think the renter screwed up. Maybe he/she sold part of thier contract?

(Mods feel free to move if I stuck this in the wrong board. I couldn't decide what it was! )

I don't believe that DVC would make this kind of mistake TWICE! I think something fishy is going on..... :confused3

I just read the other thread and I agree with you CarolA.

:confused3 :confused3 when she booked the room didn't she get a comformation letter back then. That's all they need.

something's not right here.

Even if you don't get the confirmation letter you can check on line. As the queen of "last minute booking" I usually receive the letter until AFTER the trip LOL! So I just check on line real quick after I hang up the phone and there it is!

My first thought that maybe some rooms are being taken out of service for renovation. There have been other cases where a member was called last minute and told their room was not available (example - OKW Grand Villa).

It is strange that it happened twice - the second time at a different resort.

It's also strange that DVC is basically not making the member whole. If they moved me to a resort that cost more points due to something at the resort I would expect the same "point" cost. The member shouldn't be penalized here. That's the real clue to me that this was a member error.

My thoughts really are perhaps a point sale occured. I just sold some HH points and got a VERY stern note from TSS reminding me that I needed to be sure ANY activity I did between now and closing did not touch those HH points. Wonder if this member forgot and sold those points and had to scramble?

When I read that thread the first time, I thought it sounded fishy, too. I wonder what REALLY happened. :confused3

We will never know. I just hope the renter realizes that booking mistakes are definitely not the norm and she should request a copy of the confirmation if she hasn't already done so.

I'd love to know if this is a case of DVC cancelling due to commercial renting.
Did this renter win an EBay auction, or just rented from the many boards on the net?
And I am not too happy that this is around the same time a DVC owner friend of ours is waitlisted.
It all sounds fishy to me.

I think there is NO WAY this was DVC's screw up. It would HAVE to be the owner's problem. I suspect they "forgot" to make the ressie, or maybe got caught in the DVC clamp down on the use of too many transfered in points.

I don't believe that owner's story for a minute. I don't know what happened, and hopefully things will work out okay for the renter, but the explanation she is getting is nonsense.

ITA, this just isn't something that could be attributed to a computer error or even the occasional overbooking. I don't think we're getting the real story.

CarolA -- where do you check online to see your reservation? I've looked all over the DVC member site and I can't find future reservations listed. I must be missing it somewhere. I'd like to be able to check that online instead of having to call.

Thanks

I didn't know what to think.

It would seem to mention to her that DVC never messed up my reservations in 13 years.

I really think the owner is to blame and trying to make DVC responsible. but telling the renter that the person she is renting from is lying to her on the internet just doesn't seem right.

at least she got a reservation.

Thanks, Chuck S -- I don't know how I kept missing it. My reservation is right there, just like it should be. Good to know I can check it that way, although they have never made any mistakes on any of our reservations.

We hope. As someone pointed out to me in a PM, the OP in this case does not indicate she/he has a formal printed confirmation....

I know there are very good people who rent to others, but I would be a nervous wreck renting points.

Same here, I would be wondering what my liabilites are, can they sue me, and do I report it on my income tax, etc.
