Did Disney fire all it's bathroom attendants?

I think the real answer is it depends on the mess you are seeing whose fault I would put it on.

Overflowing trash, overflowing sanitary bins in the restrooms, not having enough toilet paper or paper towels etc. Are a staffing problem. These things could not be caused by one or two individuals that were pigs or even even by a steady stream of guests in just 10 min. That means they aren't cleaning enough or that the staff is skipping some of these tasks when they clean. Both of these I blame on Disney management (not enough staff, not enough training and oversight, or too much pressure to do everything fast would cause these items)

However if your seeing things on the floor. Unflushed toilets, Puddles, Makeup smeared by the counter dirty mirrors. These are things that could be caused by one or two pigs that happened to walk in just after the CM left. These unless your seeing something that is obviously the SAME mess as last time (like the pasta in the elevator) are not really anything Disney can control. Its not like they can put cameras in the bathrooms so someone can monitor how clean they are!

One thing that would be good if Disney could do though is I have seen places that have a way for guest to indicate if the restrooms need cleaning for those such "pig" messes or for a staffing issue so management can see hard numbers. BWI (at least I think its BWI may be one of the others I saw this in) airport for example had a place you could scan with your phone and report. The local walmart I noticed a switch on the wall that you could flip to indicate the room needed to be cleaned.

I know that answer: no one visits Universal since it's a substandard experience. Since there's no visitors, the parks are clean!!:lmao:

I disagree. Universal's rides are far better, the CMs there are universally more welcoming, their version of FP can be explained in 30 seconds, their resorts are nicer and MUCH less expensive. We're emotionally invested in Disney, and Disney is cashing in on that loyalty instead of nurturing it. We accept a diminished experience today because we had so many years of magical experiences.

I think Suvadoo was using sarcasm. Suvadoo, next time remember to break out the sarcasm font. ;)

My daughter will go pick up the trash and trot over to the person hand it to them and say "I think you dropped this"...and trot off. I LOVE to stand back and watch the shocked reaction.

As many times as she has done this, each time she says "I think you dropped this " the person holds out their hand automatically.

:thumbsup2

It must be a very recent phenomena, as the bathrooms were very clean when I was at WDW in October. And for the people who say the blame is all on Disney, bull! Who wants to pay what it would cost to have 10 people cleaning each bathroom? Guests need to take some responsibility for the messes they make. People feel so entitled in the parks that by spending money they can throw garbage on the ground, or smear poop all over, and they shoulder none of the blame for it??? That is crazy talk! Guests shouldn't think it is acceptable to trash restrooms, or stores, or the walkways. And it is a sad statement on our society that people think the blame falls on on the place of business, and not on the pigs that make the mess to begin with. So many people with no respect for their surroundings.:sad2: Disgusting.

Completely agree!!!

I haven't noticed this so far but haven't been since August. It's possible this could be the tipping point with Disney recently for us. I also say it's primarily Disney's fault for not enough staffing. We like Disney but also like Universal. We still have days left on our unexpiring tickets, but if the overall experience is disappointing and the bathrooms awful, we might just go to Universal when going to theme parks once we've gone through our tickets. I know it was wonderful going to Disney as a kid, and it's been great rediscovering it as an adult, but if they're going to cut costs this much, forget it

So for those of you who say it's not Disney's fault the bathrooms are filthy....... what's your answer? Should Disney hold mandatory cleanliness class for anyone entering the parks? Should they start a PR campaign encouraging cleanliness? Should you and I start picking up after everyone else? Maybe wipe the excess pee off the toilets ourselves before sitting down each time?

THIS. i'll never understand why some people think hover peeing and spraying like a feral animal is better than using a paper butt gasket and having a comfortable sit down. it's a RESTroom, not leg day at the gym.

LMAO! Exactly! Drives me nuts!

The PR campaign is a great idea! I think this should be their new advertising campaign.;)

I'm amazed that people are excusing Disney for having "Gas Station Bathrooms"! Regardless of who is to blame for the mess, DISNEY is responsible for cleaning it up! There is no excuse for this!

When I was there in Sept/Oct, I was actually in awe of how clean the bathrooms were. :)

Don't know the numbers or anything for now, but if you want to know how it was done (bathroom cleaning) back in 2005, just let me know. I can tell you how many were assigned to the ones in my area for any given period of time because, well, I was one of the people often assigned to them. :thumbsup2
2004 MK custodial here. I took such pride in my restrooms. I worked my butt off for my $6/hr.
Hollywood Studios here. I worked in my favorite area of my favorite park and I worked hard to keep it looking up to standard. :thumbsup2

I noticed that the bathrooms really smell too, like you can smell some of them as you are walking by them even if you don't go in. I don't think they are emptying the trash often enough and if you think of the number of poopy diapers that are going through a Disney bathroom every hour :scared:

On our trip in August, they were also really hot, like the air wasn't on high enough. That was everywhere in general though IME. But not what you want in a high-traffic bathroom.

Wow, I just didn't see this at all and am so thankful! We were there in October and November. Clean restrooms.

The smell is what gets me, too, and I noticed it on our trip in February. It's to the point where I just simply avoid the smelliest bathrooms (the one in the Frontierland pass-through comes to mind, as well as the one located between Test Track and Innoventions East (near MouseGear)).

Speaking of MouseGear - does it still reek of sewage over by the back entrance? We noticed that during our last trip, too. It was so bad that we didn't even stay in MouseGear to shop, we just passed through to get to the other side and away from the stink. At first we thought it was a soiled diaper, but it still reeked when we went by later in the day.

Many people who go to Disney are entitled pigs.

Disney is understaffed in their restrooms.

Poop smells.

Universal is the mecca of all theme parks.

8 pages in a nutshell.

Did WDW go to the battery-operated towel dispensers like DL, yet?
They're getting there - I'd say at least 70-80% of the restrooms have the no-touch dispensers at this point. But WDW must be getting different deals on different types of dispensers at different times, because they're all different iterations and I often find myself waving at machines that you're supposed to tug on the snippet of towel hanging out, lol!

The restrooms used to be so sparkling clean, it was astonishing. (Ditto for the rest of the parks)
This is it, exactly, IMO. WDW was the gold standard for keeping a retail/theme park/hospitality business cleaner than clean. At some point the emphasis on that particular attribute dropped to a lower priority. So for someone who's maybe been visiting since 2010, maybe the difference isn't so starkly evident. I'm looking at it from a perspective of early-90s to present day and it's a HUGE slip in tidiness, all around.

And I'm still waiting for an answer to how the restrooms at US can be so clean at the same time the Disney ones are so dirty. They both draw patrons from the same pool of patrons.
Right?! Based on simple observation, I can say that I see far more workers on any given day at Uni sweeping, emptying trash, replenishing, etc. in restrooms and all around the parks. Comparatively, I've been seeing fewer and fewer of the same at WDW over the last few years. I know for a fact that WDW has made sweeping personnel cuts over the past decade, so I assume that had to have hit custodial functions. The folks who are cleaning up at WDW are working hard; it's very, very rare that I see them slacking off. There simply aren't enough of them to meet demand.

I really think it's just women that are pigs in the bathrooms. Normally the men's bathrooms are wonderful from what I've experienced.

However, I do agree that the worst bathrooms in all of WDW are those ones in the Adventureland/Frontierland crosswalk. Instead of refurbishing the shop across from them, they should have added more restrooms as I've seen lines before for the women's restroom.

Never seen any 'dirty' restrooms in Disney. However it is totally Disney's responsibility to keep them clean.

No matter how icky the customer's habits are the fact is that any business that has a bathroom should be monitoring it and cleaning it as necessary.

I don't know that having an attendant is cost effective and honestly I find the whole attendant thing creepy, but there should be janitorial services making rounds at least every hour or two.

Oh and just on a personal experience note. I work in a public library...men have way worse cleanliness standards than women...around here short straw gets to deal with the men's room in between the times our cleaning service is in. The one in the kids area with the diaper changing station....well sometimes we just put the out of order sign up there as the only way to make it usable again is a full on mopping/cleaning/deodorizing scrub down with hazmat suits. LOL Luckily the changing station in the lobby has better ventilation.
