Did Disney fire all it's bathroom attendants?

Hey everyone having this problem should start taking photos. Send them to Disney. May have really quick results if they are delivered via thier facebook page.

Yes, Univeral's rest rooms were clean when I visited. But most of them had those newish weird Dyson hand dryers, all of which were labeled Not In Service. They still had paper towels. What's with installing those hand dryers and not putting them into use?
I got this second-hand, so take it with a grain of salt... I heard that the Dyson driers turned out to be a colossal PITA to repair, and expensive, too. On top of that, it's been found that they're incredibly unsanitary and lots of folks prefer using paper towels. So Uni isn't rushing to repair ones that break and has started putting paper towels back into restrooms that had had them removed.

It must be a very recent phenomena, as the bathrooms were very clean when I was at WDW in October.

And for the people who say the blame is all on Disney, bull! Who wants to pay what it would cost to have 10 people cleaning each bathroom? Guests need to take some responsibility for the messes they make. People feel so entitled in the parks that by spending money they can throw garbage on the ground, or smear poop all over, and they shoulder none of the blame for it??? That is crazy talk!

Guests shouldn't think it is acceptable to trash restrooms, or stores, or the walkways. And it is a sad statement on our society that people think the blame falls on on the place of business, and not on the pigs that make the mess to begin with. So many people with no respect for their surroundings.:sad2: Disgusting.

except the most common complaint i have seen here is overflowing trash. Overflowing trash means that guests were at least until the trash started overflowing throwing things away properly but no one came to empty it in time.

I am constantly amazed at how filthy my fellow employees leave the bathroom here at work. Many of them can't find the garage can for the paper towels at all. They leave things all over the floor in the stalls too. What is wrong with people? Do they leave such mess at home?

I think this thread has established that people are pigs. No argument from me. But who SHOULD know this better than Disney? Its their job to keep these restrooms clean. They had no problem doing it in the past. No excuse not to be doing it now.

I don't buy the crowds excuse. Personally, I doubt there are significantly more people in the parks than a year or two ago. There are just a lot more people not in the attractions now. People waiting for a FP time or refusing to get into a long standby line. Not in the shops, because 90% of the merchandise is crap and can be found anywhere. So they are clogging up the streets. Presto: "crowds".

If the bathrooms are filthy, its Disneys fault for not having sufficient custodial staff at work. Somebody needs to pry a few bucks from the cold, tight fist of WDW's chief bean counter so they can staff the parks properly.

While it is the fault of guests that the mess is made, it is the fault of Disney that the messes remain. And guests shouldn't think it is acceptable to encounter such messes with anything more than very infrequent regularity. When the instances become regular or frequent, Disney is to blame imo.

I never quite understood the Dyson dryers, an interesting concept, but it's never an even airflow so your hand has to hit the sides as its pushed.

I'd prefer the eXcellerator high speed dryers.

Did WDW go to the battery-operated towel dispensers like DL, yet?

It is not Disney's fault. It is 100% the fault of uncaring, entitled customers who have no respect for themselves or others. The bathrooms aren't the only place people act rudely.

It us Disney's responsibility to clean up after these people, a sad part of doing business. And they used to do a great job of keeping them looking just about perfect. What has happened lately though us symptomatic of the larger shift in their business model, with their legendary customer care seeming to have moved across town.

I wish for the good old days of both the Disney experience and the courtesy of guests. Both have changed, so we just roll with it and still have a great time.

Of course it's disgusting. But changing society's behavior (or at least just the "pigs" we've identified here) isn't within our control or Disney's control. What IS in Disney's control is staffing the parks/resorts/restaurants adequately enough so that it is not a negative factor on other guests' experiences. It certainly does seem that Disney is not doing ITS job of providing guests with the ultimate vacation experience. I would argue that we ARE paying for whatever staffing needs Disney requires. That should be in my ticket price. If they're making record profits, then sounds like the ticket prices are covering the various expenses paid for by Disney, including personnel.

Bull (to use a favorite word of yours). Bathrooms at Disney have been going downhill the last couple years, at least.

Who wants to pay what it would cost to have 10 people cleaning each

Probably a business who doesn't want people going all over the Internet telling thousands of potential guests how filthy their bathrooms are! Disney has invested in how many new rooms over the last 20-years? I'd be willing to bet that they've hired/maintained a mis-proportionate number of custodial staff to handle this increase. For the cast members, this becomes an endless battle to handle the additional "business" ;) ....nothing like going to work each day with the realization that you'll almost never have the opportunity to be proud of the work you're asked to accomplish. Refer to Management 101.

It's a sad statement on our society that entitled pigs are smearing poop and making messes, and you're sad and disgusted. However, in your observation the bathrooms are very clean.

So is society ok after all?

Bull is exactly right. While there are a few pigs out here, most people are generally clean and respectful in a restroom. And I highly doubt that, all of a sudden, people turned into a massive army of pigs overnight.

The restrooms used to be so sparkling clean, it was astonishing. (Ditto for the rest of the parks) in recent years, it has slipped to decently clean, mostly clean, adequate, nothing magical. Sounds like in then past year it may have slipped even further into the not so clean, unacceptable range. Disney should be ashamed at cost cutting that allows basic facilities to run down to substandard. They need someone at the helm who understands that the magic is in the experience. Walt would be disgusted.

No. I think Disney does a good job of cleaning up after guests. At least, they did when I was at the parks less than 2 months ago. Though I have never been in a "magical" bathroom.

I've worked retail for over 20 years. You would be shocked at what some people do in the restrooms and in the fitting rooms.

I went in November at almost 7 months pregnant, so I probably spent as much time visiting bathrooms as I did on attractions (lol). I couldn't be too picky because I had to pee all the time, but I learned quickly which bathrooms were cleaner and tried to go to those. Most weren't awful, but a few were disgusting. Not surprising, but the one right outside the entrance of MK was THE WORST.

I used to work at WDW (CP) - almost 10 years ago - and agree that the cleanliness has gone downhill.

We stayed at the Contemporary, and on one of the elevators there was a random baggie full of leftover pasta that was on the floor, in the same spot, for two days.

Don't know the numbers or anything for now, but if you want to know how it was done (bathroom cleaning) back in 2005, just let me know. I can tell you how many were assigned to the ones in my area for any given period of time because, well, I was one of the people often assigned to them. :thumbsup2[/QUOTE
2004 MK custodial here. I took such pride in my restrooms. I worked my butt off for my $6/hr.

There is blame on *both* sides. Of course it isn't acceptable to trash restrooms, stores or walkways. For those that do seem to think it's acceptable to do such things, of course it is their responsibility. We all have to own our actions. It is absolutely disgusting and sad that so many don't respect their surroundings.

However, it is also Disney's responsibility to keep their facilities clean, regardless of who/what/why they become dirty. Disney can't just throw up their hands and say "this is unacceptable, we're not going to clean it up."

Saying the latter does not take anything away from thinking the former as well.

I never saw anything terribly gross, just messiness. The trash bins overflowing, the sanitary napkin disposals overflowing (okay that is gross ), trash in the sink, toilet bowls that needed a scrubbing (I will leave it at that). I think it is Disney's responsibility to clean it up, it's like they are having cut backs or something. If they are going to pack the parks, they need to take into account the ramifications of that.

I really think that most people at Disney are using the restrooms in the way they were intended.

Even using them the normal way, bathrooms get dirty and smelly quickly, sinks get gross and garbage cans fill up quickly. Think of your own bathroom. Now have a party with 25 people, half of them kids and a few in diapers, and tell me what your bathroom looks like at the end of the day. Probably could use a cleaning! Now think of the traffic a Disney park bathroom is getting

Regardless of people, it's Disney's responsibility to keep the bathrooms clean. And if they need to hire an army to do it then that's what they need to do. This isn't about magic...decent bathrooms are the minimum.

And I highly doubt that, all of a sudden, people turned into a massive army of pigs overnight.

But no. Haven't we established in this thread that littering and being messy is an entirely new phenomenon - it appeared sometime just in the last few years?
