DId BLT use reconditioned furn ??

DW and I contacted DVC member satisfaction team yesterday by email with our issue. Computer automated response said we would be contacted within 5 business days. DW just received a phone call and they are refunding our point difference. This makes us feel a lot better about the recent visit to BLT! :thumbsup2

OK, I should add my recent stay too! We were at BLT 1 bedroom LV (7735). There was some wear too. Drink stains on the arms of the sofa and stratches on the table. And the sofa was so uncomfortable when closed. BUT, I had no curtain/shade on the door leading to the balcony. The first night it was horrible as the lights shined in on the family sleeping in the living room (DD, SIL, GD 5 and GD2). I called and asked for a shade as I noticed others had one and we didn't. I was told, they didn't have anymore, but would look for one. The same day my AC went out. We called and on day 2 when the repair man came to fix the AC we pointed out that we now have a blanket hanging on the door to keep the light out. He said he would asked again about the shade. After 2 thermostats, the AC finally got fixed. On day 3 the manager called and told us they can't find a shade and asked how he could fix it. My SIL said you'll have to talk to my MIL as she can tell you how to fix it. When I came back from the pool we had a new shade on the door (must've been disney magic). I'm guessing the manager was afraid of the MIL (me). I complained to the DVC agent too in the lobby just trying to get some help, but they didn't care. They asked if I wanted to do a preview/tour and I invited them to my room where it was 80 degrees and we had a blanket hanging on our window. I told him I bet that will really sell some points -- NOT. (sorry, at that point I was very disappointed and yes I do own at BLT). The other minor problem I had was the rain shower. Even though we tried to use the wall shower (master) the rain shower would drip ice cold water on us and it was like a chinese water torture device, which made for a very quick shower. We like BLT, but couldn't believe all of the problems we had. And as I mentioned elsewhere, the pool was too small for this resort. Yes, we'll stay here again, esp. since I have a 2 bedroom booked for November. I'm still waiting for my postcard survery to arrive.

Im sorry to laugh at your misfortune, but your room would have looked a sight if they had use that on the tour!

We had AC issues too, and not having a ceiling fan made it unbearable. They claimed nothing was wrong, but I have never been that hot in any resort or motel. I used my Iphone to record the loud thump the AC made everytime it shut off. I know next time to ask for the stat to be replaced.

Someone else last year posted about the dripping rainshower.

My concern is that BLT is the new Disney level of excellence. :scared1:

It's obvious that with this property it is more show than go. Any new property will have some problems, but BLT is setting the record.
Cutting quality to increase profit may be their motive. It's important to remember that maintenance is a BLT owner cost item.

During our stay there in December, we had a couple of maintenance issues. The Maintenance Man told us that they had hired additional people to try to keep up with the problems at BLT. He also stated that there is a AC design problem and try as they may, some rooms will not get cool.

It's OK to laugh, it did look a site. My SIL was calling it the Ghetto room and kept asking me how much I paid for my BLT points. I guess when we checked in at 8:00AM and our room was ready should have been a big warning that there was a reason it was ready at 8:00AM.

Lol! Nuff said!

:thumbsup2We also had points returned to us because the "lake view" we had was really a standard view to us, and MS agreed.

We stayed in BLT from 4/29-5/8 in 7604 - 1 bedroom LV and we felt that everything looked fine. Suite was clean, everything worked, Furniture looked fine. I was pleased with my investment in BLT points.

We were in a Std View Studio in April, and also saw some wear problems, which seemed to be due to how cramped togther all the furniture was, and the apparent "Ikea-quality" of the furniture. The silly, unlockable bathroom sliding door kept running off its tracks, and the bathtub drianed very poorly. We enjoyed our stay, but overall I wasn't impressed. Location can't be beat, the pool area was nice (albeit small), and the roof top bar was cool. However, those pros didn't make up for the small, cramped rooms, the apparent poor quality of the materials, and the generally boring, instituational, and un-Disneylike feeling of the resort.

In our GV, the dining table even had a 10"x4" rectangular area where the laminate was removed for some reason and not replaced (there was a platter on the table covering it when we got there).

Now, with that being said, we loved being in the GV. Plenty of room for the 10 people who stayed in the room. We could see Epcot and AK from our lakeview room. The kids loved watching the water pageant each night. The fireworks viewing from the Top of the World Lounge was incredible. Transportation to MK and Epcot where very easy, and we just drove to AK and Studios.

Weird. The table in our GV was exactly the same, but it doesn't sound like we had the same room. We couldn't see the water parade and could see the castle and space mountain in our lake view room.

Funny, I have seen pictures of the tables you are talking about. I was wondering what that was. I wonder if that is on all tables in the Grand Villas? Maybe something that was suppose to go there and never made it??...smjj

If that were true (bolded statements), then we would be seeing similar issues at Kidani Village, the Treehouse Villas and the Grand Californian Villas, all of which were developed at the same time. Not to mention the major refurbishment projects at the BoardWalk and Old Key West.

Sounds more to me like some poor design choices at one location.

Some breaking-in at the resort is to be expected (HVAC, plumbing, etc.) and accounted for in budgets. And if the issues go back to the initial install, the contractor should be handling repairs at no cost.

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect (for owners) will be if Disney has to change the design of some villa furniture and fixtures in order to secure replacements which are more durable. In the grand scheme of things, the cost isn't terribly significant. When a single unit represents 15,000 points, replacing the dining room table or some end tables isn't going to cause much of a blip in the annual dues. But the overall style and look of the villa rooms may be subject to some evolution in the coming months and years.

When we toured the BLT models one of the sales people told us that the furniture was from IKEA

We've had 2 perfect stays at BLT but I am getting a little concerned about # 3 coming in July.

After reading all he comments I decided to go back to AllEars and take a refresher look at BLT.

Know what my first - instant impression of a room was??????

All Stars and CHEEP.

We just stayed in a 2 BR at Kidani - no comparison.

I wouldn't go that far to place BLT on the same level as the Value resorts. BLT obviously has some issues that they need to work out, but over time they will correct these issues. My stay had some hiccups but IMHO BLT is a very nice resort that just needs a little refining...and if enough people bring the issues to their attention it will get corrected sooner than later.

Same here, although we had to get our Guide involved. My studio was indeed a LV but my DSis and BIL across the hall looked directly into the windows across the "U". You could see the lake if you went all the way out onto the balcony, moved as far to the left as possible and leaned out as far as was safe and looked over the trees around the pool to your right! Ridiculous!

In addition to the cheap furniture/surfaces they have used, I feel their other elephant in the room is the fact that they have WAY, WAY more standard view rooms than they want to admit (as opposed to the many that they try to pawn off as LV or MK view). They need to reallocate BIG TIME because as more and more Members stay here, DVC is not fooling anyone.

My feelings exactly. I look at this as a 50-year investment for our family. The location alone was worth it to us, and I know that refurbishment will be coming before I have grandchildren old enough to enjoy the resort anyway. I like the resort now... and I'm positive that the continued feedback will lead to the resort being even better in the future, with more prudent choices with regard to furnishings. With the exception of the lack of a bathroom sink in the studios, I like the layout of the BLT rooms. Bathroom locks and soap dishes are simple to add. I'm willing to stick around for all the hiccups to subside.

We just stayed there beginning of May and the furniture had some wear and tear and the kitchen table had a nick taken out of it. It was a great room, view and overall good accommodations. I think that the type of furniture doesn't hold up as well as I have seen at other resorts. We are former SSR owners and the furniture there held up very well but the carpet was worn in most of the rooms we stayed in. You have to expect wear and tear wherever you stay.

I would never compare it to the AllStars, BLT is a lovely resort.
