Did Anyone Watch Valerie Bertinelli on Oprah Yesterday?

Wow...she's not what I thought!

She seems very nice and down to earth but I guess I was just naive about her past. Not being judgmental, I just sort of bought the whole "girl next door" facade!!:rotfl: Anyway, it was an interesting and very candid show. She even seemed to make Oprah flinch a few times.

I saw it last night on the re-run of Oprah. I would love to read her book.

Valerie is only a couple years older than I am. I was a little surprised as to some of the things that she said but then again I wasn't. Even though she managed to keep her private life out of the media - I guess being that she was married to Eddie Van Halen I kind of figured there would be some kind of drugs involved at one time or another so that didn't surprise me.

What did surprise me was her saying that "she felt lonely all the time and just wanted someone to touch and love her" - that to me was very sad and to know that she stayed in that marriage for 20 years - WOW!!!

The message that I got out of her interview was that "she's just like everyone else in the world", "no ones perfect", "we all have problems of some kind of other."

Her new man was in the front row (not sure I could of talked on and on about some of the things she did when him sitting right there) - she looked and seemed very happy now - good for her.

Oh, and her being addicted to those Jalepano cheese poppers was pretty funny - they are pretty good.

Oh and the second funniest thing she said was when she was cooking in Stephen Spielberg's kitchen and was using garlic and Stephen said "no garlic" and she said "that was the end of Stephen", LOL!!!

I didn't see the actual show, but I've seen some previews of it and knew some of the things she was coming out with. I was a little shocked, because she always seemed like such a "good girl".

While it is great to hear some of the truths about a person, its never fair to drag someone else's name in it just to get some publicity.

Who did she drag into it? Eddie Van Halen? She did address that and said that what was in the book was about "her" bad choices. The public had really only heard the bad side of Eddie and nothing in the book about him wasn't anything that hadn't been out in the press. It was her story that was never told and she was the one always appearing like some angel. I guess she wanted to set the record straight.

Twenty years ago, if I had to choose between EVH and SS, I'd have taken SS. He was decent looking enough, very well-liked, brilliant and was well on his way to being richer than God. Give me a brainy man any day. And I think I'd have made the right choice.

I don't think she had a choice. She insinuated that they dated for 3 months or so and that SS was about to get rid of her. I think she ended up breaking it off because he didn't like garlic in his pasta!;)

I'm glad you said this! I'm sitting here thinking I must be alone...I didn't think she was crude either. She cracked me UP! I thought she was very honest and matter of fact ~ not crude. :confused3

I found nothing at all crude, she was very honest. I would also love to read her book, since I've got some weight issues that I've been carrying around for the last ten years since the loss of my sons and then my divorce, I was never over weight before that, I know that it is one of my issues with my over eating, but don't know how to work through it, counseling hasn't helped. Anyway on one good note, I'm trying I've joined WW and lost 16 pounds so far, yeahhhhhhhhh. But I have to work on the inner me to keep it off.........

I didn't see the show, so I didn't mean she actually MADE a choice between the two men. I was just contrasting the two men, since so many people were "eeewing" over SS. No one seemed to be "icking" over EVH. :confused3 I'm just saying given my druthers between those two (or even those two types) a few decades ago, my Oscar would have gone to Mr. Spielberg.

I guess EVH would get an ick from me as well. Now - George Clooney -- totally different story --

Man, then all of you would probably drop dead at MY LIFE STORY!!! :scared;

Keeping my memoirs TO MYSELF!!

I've always liked her. I didn't find her to be crude either. She was very honest and up front. The drug use and other stuff didn't surprise me either.

The only thing that was annoying after awhile was her giggling and when Oprah would bring up something from the book she'd act like she was innocent.
I did like her comment on the garlic with Speilberg. I''d like to read her book also.
She does look fantastic for 47. :) The current pictures of her and Eddie he looked like he could be her father!

She talked to Eddie before the book was published and reassured him that she probably looked worse than him in certain lights. (I mean, everybody knew he had a drug problem, but not that she used too. Plus, she admitted to cheating first - she thinks - although he cheated many times, she just once while they ewre married.)

She didn't make derogatory remarks about Stephen Spielberg - she said it was very brief, a few months, that yes, they did sleep together but that the "no garlic" thing was the deal breaker!

All in all, it was a very enlightening interview. I knew that she wanted to proove everybody wrong - that she and Eddie couldn't stay together, so the marriage proabably lasted a lot longer than it should have.

On a side note - my sister-in-law's cousin is married to Valerie's brother. I remember my brother saying that Eddie wasn't "on the wagon" at that wedding!

Those pictures were shocking to me. Man, Eddie sure hasn't aged well and I'm sure all the drugs and his cancer didn't make things any easier for him. He must be ok now though since he's still touring with Van Halen.

Steven Spielberg is married to a girl who was in my home room in high school. Her name was Kathy Nail....she's now Kate Capshaw (her married name from her first marriage).

Several years ago, there was an article in our local paper about her inviting some of her old friends from high school out to stay with her and Steven for a while. Boy, I wish we had been friends in high school!!:thumbsup2 We knew each other, of course, but were more like acquaintances than friends.

There are some better pictures of Eddie now. He's got short hair and doesn't look too bad at all. They were showing them on Oprah yesterday, I just don't know how to post them.:confused3

Start a thread!!!!!!! You're one of the most interesting people here on the Dis, and I'd LOVE to read all your juicy secrets!!

I missed it, but I did read earlier in the week that she said that both she and Eddie cheated on each other. She said that Eddie says that she did first, but she said she isn't sure. :confused3 I thought she was a goodie goodie too. I still like her though, and I do give her credit for losing all that weight.

She started saying that yesterday & Oprah called her on it saying " Well in the book you say you cheated first"

I didn't think she was crude, she said they went out for a while and did more, how is that crude :confused3 ?

I was only listening on the radio so I could not see it. But the way she was talking sounded crude. I didnt say vulgar just crude. For example it was like I dated Steven yada yada then she burst out with I was sleeping with him really loud. Yeah we got that.

Crude means raw, immature or unpolished. I also thought she was telling to much of what was in the book. Why buy it now.

Thanks to those who contributed to what was said on the Valerie Bertinelli visit to Oprah. I got a good sense of what I misses. How sad that she was lonely during her marriage, been there.
