Did anyone watch Rock Star: INXS last night?

Am I the only one that thinks maybe JD picked some girl from random out the crowd, hugs her and tells her - "Hey I just murdered this song, pretend to be my long lost sister so I can get sympathy!"

Sorry - just seeing shades of "Johnny Fairplay".... :confused3

Have no idea of the truth of the situation or not, but it had shades of something not right with it all............BUT, he HAD to have that song to sing, he worked Jordis over to get it....bet she was laughing her butt off when he sang it...... ;)

I felt bad for Heather last night because she looked like death warmed over. I guess that's the breaks when you're on the road.
Mig totally rocked last night. Ty also blew me away

LOVED Jordis, Mig and Ty last night! Jessica did much better, I think she has a great voice and stage presence........but her nerves are getting the better of her! Not sure what to think of JD and his *long lost sister*.......he was HORRIBLE last night. He knew he would be though, and the sister thing could have tried to be a shadow??

I loved when Ty said to one of the band members when asked about his hair *didn't get rid of it, just put it away tonight just for you*!!! (or something to that effect)

I still like Marty, Mig and Jordis, although I think Jordis needs to do something with that hair and also change her outfits up a little. I think Mig would be a good fit since he is an Aussie, but Marty too is awesome I don't think they could do wrong with any of those 3. JD well, last night was pretty bad, but he got what he deserved, he begged for that song! And I think most others in the house have a strong dislike of him over comments made on stage, personally I think INXS would tire of his attitude in a hurry.

Mig, Jordis, Marty and Ty were the best last night. Although I still can't see a girl fronting INXS.

I voted for Marty last night, although to be fair, I think the Nirvana song was the easiest to sing and not look like a total dork. We are The Champions and Sufragette City would be so tough for anyone to do a good cover version of, since Queen and Bowie were so unique, and inimitable. I agree with you guys as far as who I like the best right now. I think JD's ambition is starting to wear very thin with the rest of them. The sister thing looked like a smokescreen, and the way he avoided the high parts of the song by holding him mic out to the audience to sing was a load of crap! No one was fooled by that maneuver! I really liked him in the beginning, but I don't think he can recover from last night's performance. The other girl who said she was sick did the worst version of Sheryl Crowe's "If it Makes You Happy". It was fun to look at everyone's reactions though! I love this show and we'll find out tonight who's going home! Everyone: Report back here tomorrow to discuss! :goodvibes

I think last night has some of the worst performances so far. I agree with everyone else on Mig, Ty, Jordis and Marty. I'm looking forward to tonight's show - I think JD will be in the bottom 3 and I'm curious to see what the band does with him. I'll also laugh my butt off if JD screws up the INXS song after making that crack last week about already knowing them. I do still think he's got a great shot at winning this whole thing if the band is not put off by his attitude.

Tonight's show is on at 9:00 everybody! I forgot that they'll all be singing an INXS song next.
Love it, love it, love it! :flower:

I watched this show for the first time last night. Well, I had seen about 10 minutes of it last week, but then went to bed. I have to say, that Mig dude rocked! He was great (not to mention he has pretty great looking abs).

Is Jordis the first one that sang? The one with all the hair? She was fantastic, too. They were the only two that impressed me.

Nope, I completely thought that too. I would not put it past him (see my psycho/obsessive post further up). I also thought it was a TOTAL cop-out to make the audience sing the lines he couldn't reach. He needs to go. Tonight.

I may be way off here, but regardless of how easy Lithium was to sing, I think Marty assumed a bit of a risk singing any Nirvana song. His look and sound is a little similar to Kurt Cobain.
Compare to Jordis: when she sang Heart Shaped Box she received nothing but praise from the judges. Did she do a better job with a Nirvana song? I don't think so. IMO, she (obviously) is a woman, has a completely different style and voice, and couldn't possibly be accused of trying to be Kurt Cobain. She put a different spin on the song and I think that gave her points with the judges.
Marty totally rocked Lithium. I like Jordis too, but IMHO he did much better with Nirvana than she did. BUT, did you notice Dave looked PO'd when Marty finished? I think he's a little to close to the real thing and that could work against him.
Fortunately, there were a handful of people last night that were just awful so I doubt he has anything to worry about.

Talent wise, I think Marty, Mig, Ty, Jordis and Deanna are the best, but the only ones I can see with INXS are Marty and Mig...maybe Ty. Deanna's good but I don't think she has the right sound for the band. Jordis is talented enough, but I just don't see a woman fronting the band, JMO though.

I agree with what everyone has stated so far! This was the worst week of performances by FAR!!! I've really enjoyed JD up until last night. Him doing his own arrangements etc have been awesome (especially California Dreaming!!!), but he was absolutely AWFUL last night! I almost had to block my ears it was so bad. Who knows if that really was his sister or not, but you can't "ruin" a performance just because you recognize a familiar face in the audience. What would've happened if they were performing in a huge area with INXS?? Just bad all around. Heather and Daphna were also awful last night :(
My top 4 from the beginning were Ty ( his voice gives me the CHILLS and when he sang the first line from Everybody Hurts last night, I was just in awe), Mig (INCREDIBLE last night! I was rocking out!), Marty ( AWESOME), and Jordis. I'd be VERY surprised if these 4 weren't the final 4.
Sidenote: How HOT was Mig last night when he took his shirt off? OY!

ITA! ::yes::

Mig reminds me a bit of the actor, Willem Dafoe. Does anybody else see it? I still don't think the Nirvana songs are hard to perform well, since they're such great songs. You have to have the range to do it, but it's basically a low, quiet, melodic section and then a kick-*** rock portion, which lends itself to all of those who have a rock style voice. My kids tease me that when I sing along to rock songs, it sounds like some opera singer trying to do Nirvana! Of course, I don't sound that way in my own head! "We are The Champions" is tough, because Freddy Mercury had that operatic voice in the high parts. That's what JD couldn't pull off. Not to minimize what Marty did, but I loved Jordis' versin of "Heart Shaped Box" so much that I tried to download it off the website. It tried to install spyware on my computer, so I gave up! Anyway, Marty was wise to have chosen that song, and JD may have learned his lesson. We'll see. I agree that Marty totally resembles Tom Petty, but not Kurt Cobain at all. Finally, I also don't think they'll pick a woman to front the band, but maybe I'll be surprised. Let's see what happens tonight. Also, if there are any people watching "Joe Average," the finale is tonight. I checked the TV listings and it's like a reality TV perfect storm! Brat Camp has two episodes running against my other shows! Time to fire up the DVD recorder! I'll see you all here tomorrow to see what we thought... :cool1:

I really think they should have a few "extra" songs to chose from for their performances, the way it is now they have to chose one and hope no one else wants it or beg for it like JD was doing for We are the Champions until of course he tried singing it. It just seems that not everyone is going to have the voice or the range for some of those songs. We are the Champions would have probably been tough for all of them.

I think we're in agreement, I just don't think I'm articulating my thoughts very well.
I meant that Marty might have some trouble with the voters, kind of like he did with Dave. I also don't think he looks like Kurt Cobain, per say, just has a similar style/vibe. I don't know how to explain it really, except to say I think he's versatile. He has sort of the pretty boy look (and I agree, he does look like Tom Petty), but if you don't wash the hair for a few days, grow a little stubble and dress him in a T-shirt and jeans and he can totally pull off the grunge rocker (K.C.). With his sound I think he would be able to do classic rock, hard rock, alternative or pop.
I totally agree with you on the song, and I guess that's what I liked so much about Marty. I always thought K.C. had a very soothing voice, even when he was busting out the rock portion, and I saw that in Marty last night. I guess I'm just partial to that type of sound.
He and Jordis have both done one thing really well. They have either been lucky or incredibly smart to pick songs that showcase their talent perfectly.

I'm usually a little distracted when I'm watching. Have they shown in detail how they decide between themselves what they'll be performing?

They haven't gone into great detail, but from what I gather everyone writes their name on their first choice song. Then if there is more than one name on a song they work it out amongst themselves. So far the only issue I have seen is last week when Deanna and Tara both adamantly wanted the same song. But I think how they worked it out (letting Deanna have first choice of song this week) was fair. I am sure as time goes on and we're down to the true cream of the crop people won't be so willing to "give in" like Deanna did.

I agree with you, Bengal! I know what you mean about how Marty could look grundgy if he tried a bit! :flower:
