Diamond Celebration: 24 Hour Event @ Disneyland Resort May 22-23!

Question for you... we are from Portland 67 is a nice day for us this time of year. That is the projected temp for Friday. How do you think this will effect the locals. I assume the die hards will be there, but in general is this a cold day and will this keep some people at home?
Sorry, I missed this one earlier! As others said, I don't think 67 will be cold enough to keep locals away from the parks. If it was in the low-50s or raining, it might have an impact, but not 67. Most locals tend to wear layers so they add layers if it gets cool or remove layers if it's warmer.

Also where do we find the daily paper events sheet at DL and CA? Want to know where to look for them when we walk in?
Last year they had special times guides for the 24-hour day. Each park had their own guides at the turnstiles with the guide maps. Last year, DL only had the DL Times Guide and DCA only had the DCA Times Guide, so you had to stop by both turnstiles if you wanted to get the times guide for both parks (I recommend it because it lists lots of information about the 24-hour day that is unique to each park). The trip report (link in my signature) from last year included scans of the times guide if you wanted to get a sense of how they looked last year. They were easy to find, and pretty plentiful throughout the day.

Good tip about the maps. Do you think by any chance they have the maps to both parks at the hotels?

I think they would have the park maps at the resort, but not necessarily the Times Guides (at least not first thing in the morning).

More from the Parks blog...this includes information about parking, entrance into the parks (starting at 4:00 am for DL and 5:30 am in DCA), locker information, and much more!
Here’s What You Need to Know to Line Up for the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration 24-Hour Event

It's interesting, but it's clear that they are expecting more guests this time than last year. They said guests can park in the Pumbaa lot starting at 10:00 pm, which is earlier than when they opened the lots last year. Likewise, the security checkpoints open earlier (2:00 am) and the allowing guests into the park pre-opening for an opening ceremony is also new. I wonder if anything on Main Street will be open at 4:00 am (if I had to guess, I'd go with Starbucks being open).

Thanks for the link!
It says at 2 AM guests will get a Keepsake!

Does anything think they will run out by 4? I was planning on getting there early but not 2 AM early...

Thanks so 4am on main street :)

Ugh, that's just so early! I was planning on getting over there at 5am, but I think I'll move that up to 4am. At least all the diehard overnighters should be through the bag check by then. I don't care too much about the souvenir but I do want to be there for the opening ceremony. Sounds like it's going to be something special this year!! Can't wait!

I guess we will be in line by midnight or so, maybe at 7am go back to the room to rest for a few hours

Update: on the Disney Parks Twitter feed, they said that the merchandise locations will not open until 6:00 am. They didn't mention the dining locations (e.g., Starbucks).

Uuuggghh! THAT is sooo early!! I really don't know what to do! We are staying within walking distance, so the original plan was to leave the room around 4:30. That was early enough. Wonder if we could still get onto Main St. at 4:30 or so? Also, we were hoping to get a locker inside DL. My 13 yr. old says we should be there at midnight! Not so sure about that! What to do..What to do....

I was actually told about the 4am gate opening by a local there... This was a week ago so, I'm pretty sure the word has been out to the locals for sometime. I'm sure that doesn't help any... Wished I would have booked my flight the night before...oh well it is what it is. I'll be there around 9am...

Wow I'm glad I found this place because we were planning to head there at about 3am (three hour drive the night before to a nearby relative's house, then heading to the park to arrive at about 5am because of traffic on the dreaded 91). I think our plans just changed to going directly to Disney and turning this 24 hour event into a whopping 32+ hour event!

A quick question though regarding these three bullet points:

  • Guests may bring games, blankets, chairs, tents and sleeping bags, but guests must return these items to their cars or hotel rooms and return to the line by 2 a.m.
  • At 2 a.m., all guests in line will be moved through Security checkpoints to the Disneyland Resort Esplanade, where they will receive a commemorative keepsake while supplies last.
  • Disneyland Resort ticket booths will open at 2 a.m. on May 22.
Does this mean people will be lining up at the security checkpoints near the Downtown Disney area, or at the parking area waiting for trains to take them over to the Downtown Disney area?

I haven't been to Disney in a bit so I think the ticket booths are behind the security in the Esplanade area but I can't remember for certain, so I hope getting the keepsake while buying tickets won't be too hard...

wow, this is insane. I guess I should forget about getting a locker, because there is no way I'm getting there early enough.

My guess is that they will bring guests to the Esplanade area and have the line start to form at Security. Guest will then be allowed past security (and into the Esplanade) starting at 2:00 am.

Yes, the main ticket booths are inside the Esplanade, past Security. Last year, they were handing out the lanyard keepsake at the Security check points. So you were given the lanyard as you passed through Security. I don't know if they'll do the same thing this year, but I assume it'll be similar.

Ahhhh. I though I had everything planned out! We had been planning on getting up at 4 and heading over. We really want a locker, I wonder how fast they will go and if any will be left by 430, 445?

Guess I won't be sleeping much Thursday night after all...I was going to shoot for DCA on Thursday when I head down, but now I think I will just grab dinner and go to sleep. This is nuts!

Ugh. Then again, I was never inclined to get there at 4am, so hopefully by 5 the masses will have cleared security and I'll just have to deal with a normal crazy-day scrum. Then again, I'll be on east coast time, so we'll see how I feel.
